we went to the ICE-Q, a filmlocation of Spectre at the Gaislachkoglberg in Sölden today, a beautiful box ... err. ... building

A bit more "poetic license" . When I was last here, I met a film crew who were checking the site as a potential location. They asked if I knew the place and for suggested view points. This was the scene I led them too.

Hartland Quay is located on the Atlantic coast of Devon, south of Hartland point. It experiences some of the roughest seas in winter and is a former harbour dating back to the time of Henry VIII.

Several ships have been wrecked here and the rocky formations have featured in a number of films, including Treasure Island, The War Zone, Element of Doubt and Solomon Kane.

Deep dive into the archive:

The view through the North Window of Monument Valley from Thumb Overlook with a gorgeous white cloud.

Another picture from the archive:

not far from the well-known Mobius Arch is the rather inconspicuous Lathe Arch.

To photograph the rock arch you have to squeeze into a narrow crevice behind it. An extreme wide angle is mandatory. And somehow you have to manage to set up the camera and tripod around your own body so that you can still fit your head behind the camera;-)

A few days ago I saw the "Gladiator" again on TV and reminded me of the archive pictures of this film location.

The medieval colleges of Oxford were clearly the inspiration for H. K. Rowling to create the magical world of Hogwarts and Harry Potter. And among these the most spectacular is Christchurch College.

Several scenes of the films, especially the first three, were shot in this impressive Gothic staircase. In both the movies and in reality, this is the magnificent preamble to the great dining room, both at Hogwarts and Christchurch... although the halls themselves are both similar and different.

The Glienicke Bridge over the Havel between Berlin and Potsdam connects the Königstraße (Berlin-Wannsee) with the Berliner Straße in the Berlin suburb of Potsdam in the course of the Bundesstraße 1. The state border between Brandenburg and Berlin and the city border with Potsdam run across the middle of the bridge. During the period of German division, the Glienicke Bridge gained worldwide fame through the third and final agent exchange spectacularly staged on 11 February 1986.

A foggy morning at the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, better known from James Cameron's "Avatar".

A lot of fog moved around the karst mountains, of which there are more than 3000 in the national park.

One minute after this picture the fog became so dense that we could not see anything for the rest of the day ... except fog ;-))

Wish you good light for the coming year ... and that you see more than just fog!

Castle Combe is a village in Wiltshire, England.

The village takes its name from the 12th-century castle.

Castle Combe is a very idyllic place, perhaps one of the most beautiful villages in England and known as a movie location.

Tractor at the Dark Hedges, Northern Ireland.

The film location for Isengard in the Lord of the Rings movie. Saruman's tower stood in the middle of the Dart River here on the northern end of Lake Wakatipu.

Another shot from my visit to the Devil's Pulpit in Finnich Glen which was used for some scenes in Outlander. When visiting this area try to go during a dry spell of weather, if there's been a lot of rain the water level will be much higher than this which makes it difficult or even impossible to get around. It can also rise very quickly, people have become trapped and have had to be rescued.

Magnificent Kynance Cove on the Lizard in Cornwall doubles up as Nampara in BBC's immensely popular 'Poldark'.

Kynance Cove is now owned by the National Trust. With its sandy beach it's a very popular tourist destination in summer.

Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, Game of Thrones fans will recognise this image as the Kings Road.

Of old age, degeneration and bit's falling off left, right and centre.....

Interesting also the location for some scenes filmed for a recent Channel 4 comedy drama - The Curse!

Photographed at Carnforth Station the location for David Lean's 1954 classic "Brief Encounter" starring Trevor Howard.and Celia Johnson.

At sunset, we waited on the Great Wall (as the rock face in the middle of the picture is called) for good light.

Unfortunately, as so often in the Pandora world, we were surrounded only by fog and dense clouds.

With the long exposure (53 seconds), I tried to soften the transition of the slow-moving fog.

Waited three weeks to capture this moment and this is as good as it gets. Oh well its only a 5 minute drive down the road.

The Castle was built as a manor house by Sir John Broughton in 1300 and sold to William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester in 1377, remaining in the same family ever since. In 1451, it passed by inheritance into the Fiennes family, Barons Saye and Sele. William Fiennes was one of the leading activists against King Charles and in the civil war it was used as a meeting place by Parlimentarian sympathisers. Consequently it was damaged by Royalist cannon.

The castle was used as the location for much of the film 'Shakespeare in Love'

In fact, no filming took place in the great hall itself, probably because it would had been quite problematic for the respective schedules between the film and the university. They ended building a quite similar copy in Wadford, which now could be visited allong all the other scenarios and props built for the movies.

A gray morning at the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, better known from James Cameron's "Avatar". A little fog moved around the karst mountains, of which there are more than 3000 in the national park.

Unfortunately, the mountains are not in the water and do not float on it, so there are no reflections like the film suggests. An impressive experience, however, when one ignores the crowds of people who are constantly photographing themselves.

Panorama from 6 vertical photos a' 32 mm, after composition and editing in Lightroom cut in the format 16 : 9.

One of the first places on our list of things to do in the Highlands was on our way to Spean Bridge where our B&B was. This single track road comes off of the A82 just after Kingshouse but before Glencoe and leads to a dead end in Glen Etive. To film fans and fans of James Bond, it's also known as 'Skyfall Road'. Fleeing North to his ancestral home in the Highlands in a bid to protect 'M' from evil villan Silva, Bond stops the Aston Martin DB5 at this spot to take in the view with M. Though we had better weather than they did in the film!

This is the De Lank River on Bodmin Moor, maybe one kilometre from its source. It's more like a brook here, with wild flowers growing on its banks. It's not difficult to see why Bodmin Moor was chosen as a location or many outdoor scenes in 'Poldark'.

Skógafoss is a waterfall on the Skógá River in the south of Iceland at the cliff marking the former coastline.

After the coastline had receded (it is now at a distance of about 5 kilometres (3 miles) from Skógar), the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometres, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.

Skógafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in the country, with a width of 25 metres (82 feet) and a drop of 60 m (200 ft) and was one of the many Game of Thrones filming locations in Iceland

Location of the Film "Gladiator"

This must be one of the most photographed harbours in Northern Ireland. Ballintoy Harbour has connections with HBO's epic series Game of Thrones and this stunning harbour location has been used for exterior Pyke shots and as the Iron Islands.

This bridge over the River Quoile was used as a location in Game of Thrones. It was a short walk from here that Robb and Brynden "The Blackfish" Tully pushed Hoster Tully's funeral boat away from the land and out into the river. {series 3, Ep3}

This is the beautiful harbour of the Aberdeenshire coastal town of Portsoy...the first harbour here was built in 1692 and this newer one was built in 1825..... its claim to fame is it was the location for the filming of the 2016 re-make of the film Whisky Galore staring Eddie Izzard....the original film was shot in 1949 and was based on a true story about a cargo ship full of whisky running around in the Outer Hebrides and the locals salvaging the whisky and the governments attempt to take it back ....easy viewing and worth a watch ....the photograph here was taken 22-06-2019 at the time of the Portsoy festival .....it was much busier that it look sand was a great day out

One of the reasons why we chose Tuscany as our goal for this summer holiday was the landscape. I love the curving of the hills and the light touching it. Although it is a rural area, it looks almost as a scifi-filmlocation. So much to see. So much to photograph. Nice people. Good food and driving around in that gorgeous landscape with our rental Fiat 500. How much more Italian can it be?

Enjoy!

This is Blackness Castle on the River Forth taken on a lovely calm and misty Christmas day.

The castle which dates back to around the 1440's has been used in many television and film productions including Hamlet, The Bruce and latterly Outlander.

Greenwich Campus sits on a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the banks of the River Thames.

The beautiful baroque buildings on campus were designed for the Royal Navy at the end of the 17th century by Sir Christopher Wren, who also designed St Paul’s Cathedral.

The campus is a popular film location and has featured in many movies, including Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Ardverikie House was built in the Scottish Baronial style in 1878 after the original house was destroyed by fire. The house and estate has been used as a film location many times but was most well known as the Glenbogle Estate in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen.
