Filling station abstract

An old filling station on the outskirts of town where “full service” is probably a thing of the past....

Vintage gas station in the small town of Orfordville, WI. What's neat, the station is still open for full service...

Posted this a few days ago, but wanted to add it to the great truck Thursday pool! HTT ALL!

This little abandoned rural combo filling station/pit stop is actually several miles east of Las Vegas on NM-104. It originally sold Gulf No-Nox gasoline then switched to Texaco. You can still see the Texaco stickers on the pumps. Just below the roof line they advertised beer, soda, coffee, candy, chips, cigarettes and maps.

The old cash register at Vulture City's last filling station hasn't had a sale in 80+ years as the towns mines were closed during WWII. President Roosevelt shut all none essential mines to concentrate on the war effort. This was basically the end for the fading, isolated town. Mining has started again at the sight, the towns new owners have had to work fast to save as much as they can of the historic property before its gone forever....

Thankfully it isnt always this busy. At least I was able to find a spot to park my bike!!! It was a 3 traffic cone congestion day unfortunately!

Anyway, whats your rush?

P@t.

I spotted this vintage GMC pickup truck and filling station in Clarkdale, Arizona, about 25 miles southwest of Sedona.

An early morning capture of the old Birchfield Garage/filling station in Much Wenlock, Shropshire, taken during a recent visit to the area.

The history of this site appears a bit sketchy; the middle pump has prices in Pence, which dates it post decimalisation of 1971. I’ve not found any reference as to when this forecourt ceased dispensing fuel and was left to the elements, perhaps it may have fallen into disuse once the requirement to dispense fuel in Litres was mandated in 1995; the pumps are all in imperial gallons.

I saw a post recently somewhere from someone purporting to be the owner, who stated that the garage to the side of the pumps is still in use and therefore asks that posts relating to the site not be tagged as abandoned.

Redo of a scanned pic I posted years ago. Taken around June of 1988.

Chamrons (?) Texaco Service Station.

Former Epley Oil station. I met a gentlemen who recalled buying gas here for 8 or 9 cents a gallon. That was a loooooong time ago (and he was very old).

I've always liked the Dutch colours of Shell at night. A small benefit given they're destroying the planet, but we take what we can get.

Not the sharpest image but it's about colours not sharpness. Plus I had silly settings, ISO could usefully have come down quite a bit.

This old gas station gained a second life for a time as a sweet shop, and I will admit it is a pretty sweet place. Unfortunately, the sweet shop gig doesn't seem to have worked out so we'll have to enjoy the great antiques. That car is an old Studebaker, by the way....

Early 20th Century garage or engine repair shop? Perhaps even a filling station.

Ye olde Texaco station, Greeley, Colorado.

This old abandoned grocery store / Bar-B-Q joint was also a filling station on TX-53 east of Temple in the Seaton and Zabcikville area.

A restored Standard Service Station that serves as the Rochelle,IL. visitor's center. Red Crown Gas was sold by the Standard Oil Company prior to its forced government breakup in 1911.After the breakup, the different divisions sold gas under various names, including Polarine and Conoco...

This appears to be an old curbside filling station in downtown Yoakum. You can see the vintage gas pumps behind the station and they appear to be from the 1940s to early 1950s. The station is probably older than the gas pumps.

Another unknown store front or shop front...under the window on the far left is a hand painted sign stating "Sound Horn for Service." I've wondered if this was originally something like a bicycle repair shop that became an early 20th century curbside filling station.

Its years of full service long gone, the dilapidated little station sits on the main street of Walnut Grove, Missouri. Weather and neglect have taken a toll over the years. Summer is just around the corner, so it seems likely that the worst is over…for now.

He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

At Bodie, California.

This old retro building served as a gas station in its early life, and later a bait shop(I think??).It has been empty for a long time, and unfortunately,a backhoe sits just off frame nearby. They don't build them like this anymore,a bit of old Route 66 in downtown Rock Falls,IL. It had a large set of windows on either side of the door which gave it even more vintage character. The backhoe has been there for a few weeks,we'll hope that it just being stored....

Strangely, the old sign on the door said "No Hunting or tresspassing",we can debate the meaning of that for awhile....

Happy sliders Sunday all!

"You can find several intact Spanish Colonial filling stations in Philadelphia. The best preserved, and most elaborate, is the tiny brick structure on North 20th Street, just south of Cherry, that is maintained by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Over the last century, the terra-cotta tiles on its broad hip roof have developed a lovely two-tone patina. An onion-shaped cutout in the roof marks the main entrance."
