Samuel Yates’ Untitled (Minuet in MG)
MG Midget (1974), steel, paper, plastic, concrete
15 in. × 26 in. × 65 ft.
The seven-story tall sculpture, made using HON filing cabinets, contains a 1974 MG Midget sportscar that was donated, shredded, steamrolled, photographed, bagged, labeled, numbered, and filed by weight from heaviest to lightest in milligrams (mgs)- an MG in mgs.
The sculpture now holds the Guinness World Record for the “tallest file cabinet on earth,” and the DMV registration for the shredded car filed inside the cabinet officially indicates possession by its owner.

We got ourselves an old filing cabinet the other day, but it was a bit dreary so we've cheered it up a little!
Birch Veneer. Single drawer that is double wide. Sturdy enough to put items on top of cabinet or sit on. Can be taken apart for moving. Hanging file folders and manila file folders included.
Can't sell an industrial product without including a model's thigh in the photo. An original 8x10 glossy print with a description on back. In the spirit of the traditional sexist garage calendar for tractors and motorcycles. Taken by a professional photographer "before my time" - found in a roomful of file cabinets I was assigned to clear out (after reviewing). After a round of massive "out placement", I was about the last employee left that could quickly evaluate the "business need" for retention.
Virtually everything else ended up in the "circular file". Needed to call housekeeping several times a day for a week to take away filled barrels and bring new ones.
Still looking for the photo labelled "Ball Screw* " with the same model standing with the long thin product strategically placed.
* A type of translational (in-out) actuator.
"No models were harmed in taking this photo" - she felt honored to be asked to pose.

These filing cabinets were at a strange surplus place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I love the contrast of the corporate office / slick metal casings, and the gradual advance of weeds and nature.
Taken with a cell phone camera (Nokia 6555)
The Open Drawers look empty from here, but there are boxes of stuff on top of and beside the filing cabinets too...
Moseley Road Baths
The August 2009 Flickrmeet was to the old Edwardian Swimming Baths on Moseley Road.
The Friends of Moseley Roads Baths are trying to preserve and restore this historic building
A set of abandoned file cabinets in the building that used to be a recieving area but is now a trash dump.

Things like this are why we keep all real writing utensils out of her reach. Luckily pencil comes right off the filing cabinet.
