A crew chief assigned to the 157th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron prepares an F-16 Fighting Falcon to be towed after performing an afterburner run at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia, Sept. 18, 2018. The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack. When he broke through the fog the runway lights were visible, but England would have to overfly a 389th barracks to make the runway. Rather than risk the lives of his men, he turned away and was killed in the crash. Alexandria Air Force Base was renamed England Air Force Base June 23, 1955 in honor of Colonel England.
