I walk by this bench, that is sitting just within the entrance to the Oak Grove Cemetary along the 8th Street side, and always have to wonder. The Pacific war was coming to a close and would have been over within six months of his loss. I can almost picture this young fellow sitting proudly behind the controls of his airplane, eager to take off from the crowded deck of a carrier; his last mission.

Maintenance members assigned to the 157th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron perform an afterburner run on an F-16 Fighting Falcon at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia, Sept. 18, 2018. The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack.
