The YF-5A Freedom Fighter, a supersonic jet developed by Northrop Corporation, features a sleek design optimized for combat agility. Equipped with a single General Electric J85 engine, it boasts a top speed of Mach 1.2 and a range of 1,200 miles. This versatile aircraft played a pivotal role in numerous military operations.
An F-4 Phantom at the Air Zoo, a rival of the MIG-21. The F-4 was, by today's standards, not very manueverable, but it was fast! It's top speed was a shade over Mach 2.2, and it was a cool-looking jet.
After A Trip To Crammel Linn Waterfall With My Good Friend Kev Shaw, We Spotted This Abandoned Plane On The Firing Range At RAF Spadeadam, There Were No Red Flags Flying To Warn Us Of Any Imminent Danger Of Flying Bullets And Mortar Attack,So Off We Trod, Cameras And Tripods In Hand Across The Harshest Landscape We've Ever Encountered. The Ground Was The Equivalent Of Marshland Swamp With Sucky Off Parts (Ooh Err) Every Step Of The Way ,It Was Only About 800 Yards Away And Instead Of Turning Back (Which We Should Have) We Trekked Forward Just To Get The Shot.45 minutes Later We Arrived And Took Our Shots..Trying A Different Route Back To The Car Was Probably A Mistake And Was Only Realised When Kev Suddenly Went From 6 ft 1 To 3 ft 4 ..... I Knew We Were In Trouble ..Sucked Off In The Bog And Me Trying To Haul Him Out With An Extended Manfrotto Whilst giggling Like A Schoolkid Did'nt Do Much To Help The Situation .. After Wringing Our Clothes Out And Emptying Wellies We Both Decided NOT To Visit This Plane Again And Realised Why The Bloody Thing Is Still There.
