Topanga Fiddle Festival

Boss Logan taking over the Moose & Fiddle Festival in 2017

While a few thousand fiddler crabs were swarming over the mud flats by the canal, we saw several lone crabs hanging around the trails over the sand away from the boardwalks. We saw little holes all over the trails that the crabs had dug, and anytime we walked on the trails, we saw little crabs scrambling for the holes to get away from us. This crab was overconfident, though, and decided to put up a fight. I got down close to him, so he looks big and scary, but he's only about an inch wide. I backed off, but I think I could have taken him.

Fun Fact: Long ago, I wrote a science fiction short story about an old man who lived in the cavern city of Tarendra in the ice seas of Europa, Jupiter's moon. He was a fisherman, and he had a submarine he'd use to hunt giant crabs that roamed deep in the dark waters. I imagined he was fishing for these guys, only they were 25 feet wide. I shopped that story around and got some promising feedback, but nobody wanted to publish it. I think that's probably about as close as I ever came to it, though.

Bow fiddle rock, long exposure, I used the rocks on the foreground as leading lines leading to the big rock which was the main subject, the tide helped a lot here.

As a bonus I got the last sun rays of the day lightening the centre of the rock.

the fiddle heads grew faster than I could capture them. Also my son ate several.

The annual Maritime Fiddlers Workshop was a great success - lots of participants in all classes.
