I used a small bowl, poured some of the liquid in it and then put a magnet underneath.
Zoomed in all the way with the 7Hi (7x) in macro mode and used a +1, +2, and a +4 lenses as well. No tripod was used, hence the picture was a little shakey. Manual focus, and flash.

Here is a screw in the ferrofluid, with the magnet beneath the plate. the ferrofluid on the end of the screw shows how the magnetic field lines flow from the screw.

A ferrofluid is a liquid which becomes strongly polarised in the presence of a magnetic field. The smaller ring on the right is ferrofluid covering an electromagnet.
Here the plate with ferrofluid is directly on top of the magnet.
