Near Northwich there is an area of land called the flashes, these depressions were created by the collapse of salt mines in the area. These were called flashes as they would soon fill with water. This photograph was taken in carey park from the bottom of one of the depressions.

I'll confess, I didn't actually take this photo - I had gone into the lab on a Saturday, but thankfully had left my camera at home, and my girlfriend managed to capture this guy (after he scared all the little birds away from our feeders!). This one is a male - he has a nice rufous breast :)

This fence has seen better days

Today we put the pumpkins in their place of honor: adorning the posts of the garden fence. It's a traditional sign of the coming of Fall, perhaps a tad early this year?
