A nuthatch seen at the Cyril Hart Arboretum near Speech House in the Forest of Dean on Tuesday lunchtime. It was a cold but bright winters day when I met up with fellow flickr member Rod Holbrook aka the "Bristolboy1", we visited Cannop Ponds, Parkend and Nagshead nature reserve as well as the woodland around Speech House.
Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) and Park greeter, named "Sampson". This handsome fellow is >20 years old and the largest species in the parrot family. The hyacinth macaw is the rarest of the macaws and is found only in Brazil. San Diego Zoo Safari Park - entrance. Conservation Status: Vulnerable

What happens when there are no birds to shoot? I shoot other bird hunters. Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Newark, California.
And I know you're out there in the shadows... series
You held it like a mirror, showing me the life I chose... series
___________
Dear fellow traveler under the moon
I saw you standing in the shadows and your eyes were blue
You put your hand out, opened the door
You said, "Come with me, boy, I want to show you something more"
You spoke my language and touched my limbs
It wasn't difficult to pull me from myself again
And in our travels, we found our roads
You held it like a mirror, showing me the life I chose
And now we turn to my beautiful city
Black skies changed into blue
And my love is so wise and so pretty
But tonight I still dream of you
Dear fellow traveler under the moon
I think I'm growing weary and I'm hoping you'll come soon
And if I see you in clean new clothes
I hope you hold the mirror up to show me what I chose
And I returned to my beautiful city
Black skies change into blue
And though my love is so wise and so pretty
Some nights I'll still dream of you
And I'll return to my beautiful city
Black skies change into blue
And though my love is so wise and so pretty
Some nights I'll still dream of you, you
And I know you're out there in the shadows
I know you're out there in the shadows
I know you're out there in the shadows

This little fellow added some colour to the winter landscape in Ojibway Nature Preserve near Windsor, Ontario. I believe it's an American Tree Sparrow
Thank you all so much for your kind words yesterday - it meant a lot.
Phill is away at the moment so it was doubly hard. It was a lovely day today and I didn't want to sit at home feeling depressed about Mojo so I took myself off to Keyhaven. Walking along you can forget all your woes as there is so much going on down there. On one side you have the sea and on the other the marshes which are a haven to wildlife. There are always cows in the fields but sometimes they will wander up on the footpath - perhaps they enjoy the views as well.

A fellow photographer who will soon visit Vancouver Island was asking me today about this bird. indicating that it was at the top of his list of priorities. It is certainly one of the most beautiful bird around here but also one particularly shy. When the weather is a little cooler with frost or near frost like the last couple of days, it is possible to attract them to your backyard feeder.... I will try to entice this one to hang around for a couple of weeks so my fellow photographer can be back home with some great photos :)
Can you see him yet? He is only about two feet high and 25 pounds and is standing on the left, upper middle of the photo. Yellow-eyed penguins are endangered and decreasing in population. It was nice to see this little fellow.
… with appreciation for fellow Iowan Glenn Miller.

It's been 10 years since I've been here so yesterday I went on a nice autumn adventure into this beautiful gorge to check out these amazing waterfalls. Beautiful flow and some nice color making an appearance!
"I think I see one about a half mile over that way!"
That was pretty much the day we had on this whale watching tour out of York, Maine.
A four pack of geeps drag the daily switch job from Canton yard to Republic Steel (directly across from the yard) east past the signal bridge at CP Fairhope with the outbound cars from the mill on the afternoon of Dec. 2, 2017. Three highhoods are currently based out of Canton: 5016, 5204, and 5205.
Notably, the 5016 is the unit fellow railfan RJ Vitchner was operating when he suddenly passed away almost two years ago now. May he rest in peace.

From the June 2010 archive. I took a series of shots of these fellows while I was looking for landscapes in the province of Groningen, the Netherlands. I wanted to compose and shoot this tree while the horses got curious and came closer. They didn't seem to have plans to move out of my way. The best thing I could do was taking advantage of them..

What's in a name? If you just have to be an odd fellow to join, I'm in! Not that easy, apparently.
Wikipedia says: The Odd Fellows are one of the earliest and oldest fraternal societies, but their early history is obscure and largely undocumented. Due to increased trade during the Middle Ages, guilds came to make up a part of the urban culture, grouping people from a number of trades banded together. Hence, people of an odd assortment of trades speculatively brought the background of the early history of Odd Fellows.
It says a lot more as well - you can look it up if you so desire.
As we were sitting inside the Searoad Ferry watching the waters of the Bay go by, this fellow traveller, a Praying Mantis was catching his lunch, a spider, that ventured too close. Unfortunately, after a short while the Mantis dropped the spider and didn't seem to want it again when presented back on a piece of paper.
I just wondered how long the Mantis had been travelling on the Ferry!
But then we were called to our cars as the Ferry got close to the dock at Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula. Happy Sliders Sunday!
PETER:
Oleg...Oleg...I get to ride with the Corso Bear!!!
I asked the big bear nicely Oleg and it was allowed..wheeeeeee!
See you later!!!
OLEG:
I don't want to know this and I certainly don't want to see this.
I go home and put ice cubes on my forehead.
My head is pounding
On a recent outing in the canoe, these two hitchhikers found traction on a somewhat worn and weathered landing strip providing a break from their travails in the air. This rest area also providing a not too appealing macro view of my thigh, fortunately not looking quite so "textured" in normal view...or does it? ;-))
Yes, it is mine...you know how you buy that piece of clothing in a foreign country because it looks so right there but on returning home you realize you will never wear it.
Well one year I was in London in January when Harrods had their crazy clearance sales, and the hat was just so fascinating. The next day the reality of packing it for the return trip hit me and I finally had to give up and wear it home.
This is where it all paid off. While I was waiting to board, the gate counter called me up and asked if I would mind being bumped to FIRST CLASS...not Business, but FIRST CLASS. Would I mind??? Well what an eye opener to see how the privileged travel. Most of my fellow first classer's were a rock band and their leggy blonde girlfriends, but it didn't interfere with my best flight ever (and I have been flying internationally since I was 7). It had to be the HAT! So every now and then I pull the hat from the back closet and dream about being bumped to first class again (which of course has never repeated)...hmm maybe I should start wearing it for all my flights.
Thank you so much for your visit!
Please take a minute to press L and view in large!
These two fine looking fellows are Boomer and Blake, they also took part in the Hike for Hospice in Brantford, On. on Sunday.
PETER:
Oleg....wow..look....a big fellow bear on a rocking horse!
I ask if I can sit with him
OLEG:
No Peter, you can't!!!
The next day we drove to a beach at Ninilchek, Alaska. Jackpot! There were Eagles flying around but not a lot of feasting on the beach. I looked down the beach and saw a large congregation of Eagles sitting on the shore. It was cold and rainy but we walked down the beach to check out the Eagles. It was amazing how close we could get to these birds! Food on the beach was not as plentiful due to high tide. We watched the Eagles fighting for food and chasing away any sea gulls that landed nearby. The Eagles were very aggressive and territorial. A photographer joined us as we were enjoying the eagles on the beach.

Yes ,I agree that one can find beauty even in the ugliest things but this doesn't mean that we need to focus only on them. Many "fellow photographers and artists" prefer to show only this ugly kind of beauty and they call it a style . Some others are using "artistic" ways to kill innocence and joy just because they have been taught that making everything to appear meaningless and dirty is "cool." Art is not only to provoke. Propaganda art has very often served the dark side. Provocation always serves a purpose and spreading negativity with the excuse of making art seems very suspicious. I am not able to judge the photographic skills of a person but I can tell if a photo causes me heavy feelings and if it helps evil to be spread. We need to be very carefull with what we post and what we fav, always taking in consideration the impact that they may have on a fresh untouched soul...
