Fallas ist ein Festival, das jedes Jahr im März für drei Wochen stattfindet. Dabei werden in der ganzen Stadt bis zu 30 Meter hohe Figuren aus Holz und Pappmaché aufgestellt, die alle (bis auf eine, die von den Einwohnern ausgewählt wird) beim Höhepunkt des Festes am 19. März feierlich verbrannt werden.
Ein weiterer Bestandteil dieses Festivals sind die Feuerwerke. Es gibt nächtliche Höhenfeuerwerke und Tagesfeuerwerke, die Mascletàs genannt werden. Am Rathausplatz wird täglich um 14 Uhr ein Feuerwerk gestartet, das im Sekundentakt ein Donnerkonzert veranstaltet, das durch Mark und Bein geht !!
Während dieser drei Wochen ziehen auch Musikkapellen durch die Stadt, die traditionelle Musik spielen. Diese Musik hat es uns besonders angetan, wir hören sie seit März immer noch mit Begeisterung !! Eine weitere Kostprobe ? www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2x1oX6J2Z0
Auf dem Platz vor der Kathedrale der heiligen Maria wird ein 14 Meter hohes Holzgerüst der Heiligen Jungfrau aufgestellt. Während einer feierlichen Zeremonie ‘Ofrena de Flors’ am Höhepunkt des Festivals wird es mit Blumen geschmückt, die von den Falleras (Valencianerinnen in traditioneller Tracht aus Seide und Brokat) übergeben werden.

Fallas is a festival that lasts for three weeks every year in March. Figures up to 30 metres high made of wood and papier-mâché are placed throughout the city, which are all (except one, which is chosen by the residents) ceremonially burnt at the highlight of the festival on 19th March.
Fireworks are another feature of the festival. There are nightly fireworks displays and daytime fireworks called Mascletàs. Fireworks are set off daily at 2 p.m. in the town hall square, producing a thunderous concert every second that goes through your bones !!

A 14 metre high wooden statue of the Virgin Mary is put up on the square in front of St Mary's Cathedral. During a festive ceremony, ‘Ofrena de Flors’ at the highlight of the festival, it is decorated with flowers given by the Falleras (Valencian women in traditional costume made of silk and brocade).
