At the top of the hill near the Knapp Street and Fuller Street intersection stands this water tower crowned by aerials and transmitters for wireless cellphone services. Looking to the scene in the middle ground there is a parcel delivery truck and the corner gas station - convenience store, too. The road itself (Fuller Street) is another prominent part of the photograph. What all these features have in common is the essential role they play in modern life: the flow of water (pressure), the flow of digital signals, the flow of mail-order shopping to quarantining households, the flow of gasoline to fuel the vehicles large and small, and the network of roadways to be maintained and regulated with signage and signals to keep the traffic flowing safely at optimum speed.

• Route 66 •This FedEx truck came to a stop here after billowing smoke a few seconds earlier. I'm guessing that an air line to the brakes on the second trailer broke and cause the brakes to lock up. We had stopped and my long-suffering wife was on the phone to 911 to report the incident…the truck was stopped in the left lane and could create quite a hazard. The Arizona highway patrolman, who you can see getting emergency warning equipment out of his trunk, had stopped behind us to see if we needed help. I had hardly finished describing the situation in the eastbound lane when he jumped back into his car and drove across the median to set up triangles and flares. Our job done, we continued on our way.

FedEx really came through this year in supporting the 2009 BikeMS Ride in Logan, Utah.

I chose this picture for a couple of reasons. First, I'm very proud to be associated with that logo. I love it when the Great Falls truck pulls into the station in the mornings - it means that part of our freight is on time. It also gives me an opportunity to catch up with those drivers, as I don't see them very often. My second reason for posting this my 2-year-old step-grandson Henry. Henry LOVES big trucks and played with my model Fedex trucks for hours while he was here. This is a BIG TRUCK, Henry!
