Mute Swan [Cygnus olor]

Cold, blustery and very windy day...lots of swans in the harbour doing just this!

They weren’t actually asleep - their legs and feet were still paddling. Every now and then one would stick his head up, have a look around and then snuggle back down.

"Macro Mondays" - Feather

Early morning dew drops on a Collared Dove feather, magnifying those intricate details quite nicely too!

With the feathers you are found, you can build yourself something beautiful. I was lucky to get some pale lens flares too.

~HSoS~ , nice weekend all!

A grey and a white feather from my big bag of feathers, some in better condition than others .....

The grey one is 3" long and I cropped the image accordingly

Abstract from nature.

Had another great day of shooting the swallows at the lake - due to heavy rain and wind. Got several passes of this tree swallow - or I _think_ it was the same one, based on the state of the feathers in the wings and tail. it definitely seemed undeterred by the damage!

on a parrot feather (Crimson Rosella I think).

Macro Mondays: Feather

Brought Grandchildren home with us for a few days of the school holidays so catch up as soon as I can.

Pied Shags at Zealandia Ecosanctuary, Wellington New Zealand (named Karuhiruhi in New Zealand or otherwise known as the Pied Cormorant - Phalacrocorax).

Shags have evolved from a family of birds who are considered primitive because they do not produce feather oils like ducks and other water fowl. They must dry their feathers periodically in order to fly or even remain buoyant, so they remain perched for significant periods of time with wings outstretched.

Being on vacation I had to use one of my parents feathers that they have kept. This one was a feather from a hawk that visits them often.
