Just before he flew off the male Bushtit turned around and looked right at me. I just love how he seems to be showing off his feather find!

Where does an eagle go,

when there's snow?

Cold and wet the weather,

kept at bay by feather,

find a perch to wait out the storm,

this could be the norm.

Sit quietly and reflect,

raptor beauty the object.

I know now where eagles go,

when there's snow.

They warm my heart,

with this photo a start.

This mature Bald Eagle came in and landed on this stump as it snowed. I was on the shore of Kachemak Bay and looking for eagles when this one presented itself. Thank goodness, as you can't see too far into the landscape with falling snow. The snowfall affected the light and gave this image a sort of ethereal look.

This is my next picture for my theme 'Easter'.

Fun times - I bought some new cooked and painted eggs for the theme and fresh pictures for the upcoming days, but I found this egg with a feather in an egg carton in my fridge =)

A souvenir from yesterdays trip to the Aviary, this black and white feather was too pretty to not bring home and photograph.

We saw quite a few feathers on our last few hikes. This turkey feather was in perfect shape. We admired it for a while and then put it back so it could stay where it belongs (in nature).

I just love the colouring of the immatures, I actually prefer their colouring to the matures...so beautiful, so textured and varied~~~this age in particular, Tony you would know but I'm guessing around 3 years old offers the most amazing feathers....I was hoping in all the preening one might get left on the stump but no luck there...they say a feather finds you not the other way around~~ so not meant to be this time around~~~

Crested pigeons (Ocyphaps lophotes) are incorrectly called topknot pigeons. They're the only member of the genus Ocyphaps.

When taking off they make a tooting sound when air rushes over a modified primary feather on the wing. It's an alarm which draws attention of predators to birds in the air, and away from birds on the ground. And I painted them - link in my bio if you'd like to own them.

Yes only members of federally registered tribes can have them. I am a member of one and I believe I'm good keeping this. Law does get a little fuzzy on finding and keeping eagle feathers however even for native people.

Ranger Cove: Osprey Nest report

Dad osprey had brought in a fish and dropped it in the nest. The two siblings arrived, screaming defiance at each other. That is Brother Piper at the front of the nest and Broken Feather behind him. They have lost sight of the fish and are looking for it. Broken Feather finds the fish and Brother Piper whirls around to try to get it for himself. Out right, no-holds-barred, sibling rivalry breaks out - it is Broken Feather, on your left who wins the fish.
