That same Dunlin.

This male Eastern Bluebird took a quiet moment to preen, his head turned gracefully as he tended to his plumage.

I photographed him in my yard in Arkansas, where he often perches on this wooden post between bursts of activity. It’s one of his regular spots.

Preening is essential for keeping feathers in top shape, especially during nesting season. The angle here shows off the rich blue of his back and wings against a soft, even background.
