21 February - Shrove Tuesday!
(The day when you get to eat as many semlor as you want and can!)
Shrove Tuesday, or any archaic white on Tuesday, is in the Christian tradition Tuesday after Shrove Sunday, 47 days before Easter. . Shrove Tuesday is the second of three days of Lent, the days before Lent, the first of which is blue Monday and last Ash Wednesday.
The name Shrove Tuesday is composed of "fat" and "Tuesday", where bold refers to all the good food that used to be eaten on Shrove Tuesday. The word is then coated 1594th.
In Sweden the day is called Fettisdagen (fat tuesday) and is generally celebrated by eating a type of pastry called Semla.
Ken took this one of me for Mardi Gras Day/Fat Tuesday, and no, not everybody can see it- I couldn't stand it!! :)

On Explore! No. 64 @ 478. Thanks, my friends!!!
Krewe of Zulu Mardi Gras Parade, 2009. New Orleans Louisiana.
Early in 1909, a group of laborers who had organized a club named "The Tramps," went to the Pythian Theater to see a musical comedy performed by the Smart Set. The comedy included a skit entitled, "There Never Was and Never Will Be a King Like Me," about the Zulu Tribe...
That is how Zulu began, as the many stories go...
Years of extensive research by Zulu's Historian staff seem to indicate that Zulu's beginning was much more complicated than that. The earliest signs of organization came from the fact that the majority of these men belonged to a Benevolent Aid Society. Benevolent Societies were the first forms of insurance in the Black community where, for a small amount of dues, members received financial help when sick or financial aid when burying deceased members.
Conversations and interviews with older members also indicate that in that era the city was divided into wards, and each ward had its own group or "Club." The Tramps were one such group. After seeing the skit, they retired to their meeting place (a room in the rear of a restaurant/bar in the 1100 block of Perdido Street), and emerged as Zulus. This group was probably made up of members from the Tramps, the Benevolent Aid Society and other ward-based groups.
While the "Group" marched in Mardi Gras as early as 1901, their first appearance as Zulus came in 1909, with William Story as King.

Two years ago I went to see the Mardi Gras Parade for the Krewe of Tucks. I got a shot of a girl doing a go-go dance in a cage on one of the floats. That shot is my second highest most viewed photo with almost 10K views and my highest position in Explore. It took over 400 views before anyone made a comment on it, that was my good friend Klaus Dolle, who is one heck of a guy! Last year I had the flu during Mardi Gras and missed all the parades. Let's see what happens this year. Happy Mardi Gras to all of you!

Happy Mardi Gras!
And a little birdie told me that it's also Studio d'Xavier's birthday.
??
Not sure if it's true, and even though I haven't 'known' him very long online, here as a tribute to him for rocking out the FDT's is the black shirt w/ khaki pants and chucks. :D And of course, at and in front of Fat Tuesday b/c it was the closest thing I could think of when it came to Mardi Gras and New Orleans.
If it is your birthday Xavier, Happy Birthday and if it isn't, then Happy Unbirthday! :D

Have a great week, everyone! I'm headed off to Memphis until Sunday.
I finally fixed her hat that kept falling off. The Diva is now a pro at wearing masks. She's such a character, I think she likes peeking at me through it. lol
I would like to thank all of you that have taken the time to view and comment on my photos, it is very much appreciated.

Fat Tuesday in Sweden only means one thing. We consume a few million semlor. Chances are that I will eat both of these.

Wishing you ALL a very Happy Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday, and a Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday!
Today is Shrove Tuesday. Also known as Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras (in French), Pancake Tuesday and by many other nicknames. It's the big hurrah before Christians start Lent, a season of prayer, penance and fasting in preparation for the Easter season.
Shrove Tuesday was named after the custom of Christians to be "shriven" before the start of Lent. In the United Kingdom, Ireland and parts of the Commonwealth, Shrove Tuesday is also known as Pancake Day or Pancake Tuesday, as it became a traditional custom to eat pancakes as a meal. -- Courtesy CNN
