Solo lunch at an old-school tapas bar in Waterloo.
Had the following-
A complimentary croqueta.
A glass of Manzanilla, Fernando de Castilla.
A fantastic garlicky rabbit number.
Mixed fried fish platter (cod, sardine, whitebait, squid and prawns).
A carafe of excellent but potent ‘Leonor’ Palo Cortado, 12 Year Old, Gonzalez Byass.
One and a half hours later I was suitably pissed because I failed to order some carbs to go with the above.

NB Incidentally this was not the most expensive solo dining meal I've had, it was at Andrew Edmunds instead.

I think it's nigh on impossible to dislike this chain of steak restaurants. The pre-sliced steak (rare obvs) is so meltingly tender there's no need to use the knife and that green sauce is fantastic. The house red is consistently quaffable and cheap as chips. Service can be rushed and abrupt. And it's also good for solo diners despite the elbow to elbow tables.

Notes-
The brains (akin to silken tofu but much more fulfilling) were beautifully seasoned and memorable.
The mains was probably the best cod I've ever eaten; perfectly cooked and outrageously good.
Pinot Gris is grossly underrated.
Now the last time I had creme brulee was more than 25 years ago, I thought it was too 'room temperature' and asked for a warmer one instead. Pleasant waiter came back from the kitch and remarked, 'But, sir it's normally served a little chilled'. Gawd, I've never been so Wong in my life and hung my head in shame.
