As luck would have it there was a bird of prey display on at Wisley and I managed to get some shots of this beautiful Peregrine Falcon.
On the down side my wonderful 300mm lens is now officially unusable so these were probably the last shots with it, I know it is not normal to feel this sad over an inanimate object but I really did love this lens and it the one I used all the time..
This amazing little Falcon can reach more than 300 km (186 miles) per hour—making it not only the world's fastest bird but also the world's fastest animal
Hartebeest is herbivore whose diet is based almost entirely on grass, eat eats only by day. . Despite clumsy appearance, hartebeest is actually one of the fastest antelopes. It can reach the speed of 43 miles per hour when it needs to escape from the predators.

The fastest dive by a bird is that of a peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), which has been estimated as reaching a terminal velocity of approximately 300 km/h (186 mph) when in a diving stoop. At this point the peregrine falcon is the fastest animal.
The Austonian held the crown of tallest building in Austin for nine years until The Independent surpassed it by only seven feet in 2019. Located at 200 Congress Ave., the 683-foot tall, 56-story building is a modern architectural icon in this rapidly growing city.
This post modern skyscraper was designed by Ziegler Cooper Architects of Houston. At the time of its completion in 2010, the Austrian was both the tallest building in Austin, and the tallest residential skyscraper in the United States west of the Mississippi River. Both distinctions are now held by The Independent, although another downtown Austin tower, Sixth and Guadalupe and still under construction, has already topped out at its final height of 865-feet and is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2023.

The peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), also known as the peregrine, and historically as the duck hawk in North America, is a widespread bird of prey (raptor) in the family Falconidae. A large, crow-sized falcon, it has a blue-grey back, barred white underparts, and a black head. The peregrine is renowned for its speed, reaching over 320 km/h (200 mph) during its characteristic hunting stoop (high-speed dive), making it the fastest bird in the world, as well as the fastest member of the animal kingdom.
A street musician at work on S. Congress Avenue, a major thoroughfare in Austin. The street is a six-lane, tree lined avenue that cuts through the middle of the city from far south Austin and goes over Lady Bird Lake leading to Downtown and the Texas State Capitol. This one man band was captured in the area known as South Congress, often abbreviated to SoCo. The area is filled with restaurants, funky vintage shops, chic boutiques, cool bars, and, of course, live music.
With a population of just over one million residents, Austin is the 10th largest city in the United States. The Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos Metropolitan Area, now with a population of 2.3M, also is the fastest growing large metropolitan area in the country having added more than 579,000 residents since 2010.

The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large cat native to Africa and central Iran. It is the fastest land animal, estimated to be capable of running at 80 to 128 km/h (50 to 80 mph) with the fastest reliably recorded speeds being 93 and 98 km/h (58 and 61 mph), and as such has several adaptations for speed, including a light build, long thin legs and a long tail.
The cheetah lives in three main social groups, females and their cubs, male "coalitions" and solitary males. While females lead a nomadic life searching for prey in large home ranges, males are more sedentary and may instead establish much smaller territories in areas with plentiful prey and access to females.
The cheetah is active mainly during the day, with peaks during dawn and dusk. It feeds on small- to medium-sized prey, mostly weighing under 40 kg (88 lb), and prefers medium-sized ungulates such as impala, springbok and Thomson's gazelles. The cheetah typically stalks its prey to within 60–70 m (200–230 ft), charges towards it, trips it during the chase and bites its throat to suffocate it to death. -
The cheetah occurs in a variety of habitats such as savannahs in the Serengeti, arid mountain ranges in the Sahara and hilly desert terrain in Iran. The cheetah is threatened by several factors such as habitat loss, conflict with humans, poaching and high susceptibility to diseases. In 2016, the global cheetah population was estimated at around 7,100 individuals in the wild; it is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. – Wikipedia

Happy Caturday.
The cheetah is a large cat of the subfamily Felinae that occurs in Southern, North and East Africa, and a few localities in Iran. The species is IUCN Red Listed as vulnerable, as it suffered a substantial decline in its historic range in the 20th century due to habitat loss, poaching, illegal pet trade, and conflict with humans. By 2016, the global cheetah population has been estimated at approximately 7,100 individuals in the wild. Several African countries have taken steps to improve cheetah conservation measures. It is the fastest land animal.
Cheetahs are active mainly during the day, with hunting their major activity. Adult males are sociable despite their territoriality, forming groups called coalitions. Females are not territorial; they may be solitary or live with their offspring in home ranges.
Carnivores, cheetah mainly prey upon antelopes and gazelles. They will stalk their prey to within 100–300 m (330–980 ft), charge towards it and kill it by tripping it during the chase and biting its throat to suffocate it to death. Cheetahs can reach speeds of 112 km/h (70 mph) in short bursts, but this is disputed by more recent measurements. The average speed of cheetahs is about 64 km/h (40 mph).
Cheetahs are induced ovulators, breeding throughout the year. Gestation is nearly three months long, resulting in a litter of typically three to five cubs (the number can vary from one to eight). Weaning occurs at six months; siblings tend to stay together for some time. Cheetah cubs face higher mortality than most other mammals, especially in the Serengeti region. Cheetahs inhabit a variety of habitats – dry forests, scrub forests and savannahs. -Wikipedia
The Jaguar XK120 was the fastest production car in the world when launched... Originally designed to showcase Jaguar’s new 6-cylinder XK engine, the XK120 was not initially intended for volume production, but following a rapturous reception at the Earl's Court Motor Show in London in 1948, plans soon changed. Becoming more widely available in 1950 its 120mph top speed and styling were unprecedented in the immediate post-war years.
XK120s were very successful in motor sports of all kinds, both in Britain and in the US.

LNER 4468 Mallard is a LNER Class A4 4-6-2 steam locomotive built by the London & North Eastern Railway at Doncaster Works, England in 1938. It is historically significant as the holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives at 126 mph (203 km/h).
A bison bull (the largest land animal in North America) strides across the mixed-grass prairie with a pronghorn doe (the fastest land animal in North America) in the background. I was lucky to see this shot coming. We were watching this mature bull stride across the prairie and I could see that, if he continued on the same path, he would pass between us and the pronghorn. When he reached the right spot a single click was enough to get the shot. Badlands National Park, SD.

The Golden Eagle is one of the largest, fastest, nimblest raptors
Lustrous gold feathers gleam on the back of its head and neck; a powerful beak and talons advertise its hunting prowess.
The sun rose as it dropped from the skies hunting for prey and I had a few seconds to take the image, it did not make any sound.
Look closely at the claws in my image. Best view large.
Tricky photography of a fast moving large Bird whose wingspan is 1.8 to 2.34 metres (5 ft 11 in to 7 ft 8 in). The wingspan of golden eagles is the fifth largest among living eagle species.. The sun had just risen and the snow is white so all the settings on the camera have to balance without the snow being grey or blown highlights.
The Golden Eagle is usually the largest bird of prey in the regions where it lives. Some individuals are blackish-brown; others are golden-brown and have a more patterned plumage. This variation in plumage pattern, in part, has to do with the fact that golden eagles are always replacing their feathers (molting). Old feathers look faded while fresh ones look darker.
The Golden Eagle is the most common official national animal in the world—it's the emblem of Albania, Germany, Austria, Mexico, and Kazakhstan.

You are looking at a miracle of evolution., this is the worlds fastest bird.,, and this is a young but fully grown female which is bigger and more powerful than her male counterparts (natures way of preventing predication) meaning she is the ultimate falcon.
I don't usually get into any photographic technical., but this was an interesting one. The weather was poor (you can see the raindrops) and she landed in a nearby tree. To get a closer picture I decided to put on the x1.4 converter and I took some reasonable shots. I knew she would eventually fly off., but expected it would be sideways or backwards because that is what they always do.,right? wrong!
Suddenly the fastest bird in the world is flying straight for me., and I have an overpowered prime lens in low light.
Put the shutter speed up and the ISO goes through the ceiling! Plus the tracking on a quickly closing object simply wasn't going to work
My only option was to risk as low a shutter as I dare., (800) and attempt to spot focus her when she got close enough... click!
It's for others to decide on the quality of the photograph., I can only look in awe at the fastest lady on the planet

Pink Ceiba, the flowers of the world's fastest growing tree! The inside of its trunk is so soft that it has 4 inch spikes to protect it from predators... giving it its nickname, Monkey Tree, because a agile monkey can climb it!
The Ceiba tree figures an important part in the mythologies of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures. Several Amazonian tribes of eastern Peru believe deities live in Ceiba tree species throughout the jungle. The Maya civilization believed that Yaaxché, often depicted as a Ceiba trunk, connects the planes of the Underworld (Xibalba), the terrestrial realm and the skies. Unmistakable clusters of thick conical thorns on the Ceiba trunk were reproduced during the Classical Period on ceramic burial urns and incense holders by the southern lowland Maya.
Modern Maya still respectfully leave the tree standing when harvesting forest timber. The Ceiba tree is represented by a cross and serves as an important architectural motif in the Temple of the Cross Complex at Palenque.
Ceiba pentandra produces a light and strong fiber (kapok) used throughout history to fill life preservers, mattresses, pillows, tapestries, and dolls. Kapok has recently been replaced in commercial use by synthetic fibers. The oils of Ceiba seeds are extracted to make soap and fertilizers. The Ceiba continues to be commercialized in Asia especially in Java, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines.
