The Centovalli Railway is a meter gauge (3 ft. 3 3⁄8 in.) railway in the southern Alps. The name "Centovalli" (hundred valleys) is appropriate for this scenic railway: in its two-hour journey between Locarno, Switzerland and Domodossola, Italy, the train passes through 34 tunnels and over 83 bridges. The view includes mountains and massive waterfalls, vineyards, chestnut forests, and picturesque villages.

This train has just departed the tiny village of Santa Maria Maggiore on the Italian side of the border, and will arrive at the terminus in Domodossola in 40 minutes. There, a connection can be made with trains on transalpine Simplon Tunnel route: north to Berne, Lausanne, and Geneva, or south to Milan.

The railway is officially known in Switzerland as the Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi (FART), and in Italy as the Società subalpina di imprese ferroviarie (SSIF).
