Every year Fanta puts out a peach-flavoured soda. This year the package is a loving tribute to Japan, the land of the rising peach...I mean, sun.

Griots are the keys to the past here in Mali. In a place where history has mostly been passed down through generations orally, they sing about happenings in the past, and about personalities in the present. I read somewhere that they are sort of like a librarian, a gossipy grandmother, and a sidewalk folksinger all wrapped into one. Not too far off.
Here, Fanta griot is singing at an engagement party I was dragged to. I obviously did not mind, it was just that I had no idea what was going on until we got there – which is often the case in this simultaneously relaxed and wild country.
Dékou dressed me up in a turquoise creation with lots of little birds on it, and stuffed me in the car. I didn't find out until the evening after that it was in fact the engagement party of the daughter of Mali's president that we attended!
The husband-to-be brings cola beans to the family of the wife-to-be, and then goes off somewhere else. This is apparently always the procedure: the couple to be wedded are never present at the festivities. So also here. The men are somewhere else, and all the women are gathered to distribute the cola nuts. The griots sing pretty words about different people at the party, who then stick money in their hands.

We had our first meal in London at the Westfield Mall foodcourt. We had Pho actually! XD
This meal was when I started collecting my Fanta bottles. I collected a total of -3- glass Fanta bottles on the trip. All from countries that spoke different languages, so they are all slightly different. I only kept the glass bottles because I thought they'd make nice decor in my room along my windowsill. They aren't with me at my residence now though. =(
I really like how this one turned out! ^_^
