Starboard view of the cake. Note four candy Vipers in the vicinity of the flight pod. These are made from tinted white chocolate, corn syrup, and powdered sugar. The light gray panels on the main body of the cake, and the struts attaching the flight pods, are also made from this. The recipe I was using didn't call for powdered sugar, but I found it necessary to knead in quite a bit of it to get the stuff to hold a shape.

I missed a lot of these because I had to practice for my own 2x10 performance and then get ready for the banquet right after I was done.
For my 40th birthday, amine artist and all-around cool guy Mark
Mandolia make this surprise present for me. It's AMAZING! I met Mark
in the 90s when he worked in Christine's art show. He got me to work
for Katsucon, and he's been a family friend ever since then.
