In memory of my mother, Barbara Jane (Stoltze) Bailey, on International Women's Day, March 8, 2016. This is her high school graduation photo, and because she had "skipped" so many grades, she was only 14 years old. She would have been 100 tomorrow.
This is all of us: my wife Sammy and I, two sons, their wives and four grand kids, all participating in an ugly sweater contest on Christmas day. Here we're all standing on the deck of an A-frame cabin I built in our back yard 40 years ago. Hope y'all had as fun a Christmas as we did. Ours was one for the ages.
From left to right, Alice, Paul Draper, Mother and me. This photo was taken during our first Xmas after moving back to the States, in 1965. Mother is in Balenciaga.
We are in the living room of our house at 1703 Adams Street in Great Bend, Kansas. I still have the rug in the photo. I also have the stand that is barely visible behind Alice.
One of the things I loved about the Adams Street house was the wallpaper. Seriously. I think the paper dated to the 40s or 50s.
Paul Draper was Alice's boyfriend. They met at Stanford and saw each other on and off for years.
Here's a photo of some of my maternal relatives, this is a reprint my Uncle Robert gave me.
My grandmother is the one in the middle. My mouth looks just like hers! Now I know who to "blame" for my sulky look. ;-)
Back row:
My great uncle Russell William Cunliffe 1884-1972 who was married but had no kids.
My great uncle Robert Aitken Cunliffe 1881-1919 who was a doctor (an allopath), died of a brain tumor aged 37.
Front row:
My great grandfather William Charles Cunliffe 1855-1926
My grandmother Jean (Cunliffe) Mueller 1882-1969
My great grandmother Emma Louise (Wilson) Cunliffe 1855-1936
My brother John on left, my sister Bev on the right, me in the middle and my Mother in the rear. Best guess is 1948. Photo taken by my Father and somewhere in Idaho State. I believe that is a 1941 Chevy on the left.
Strobist info:
