Our Final Farewell
---------------------------
He was a brother, father, grandfather and cousin
and today we paid our final respects to him.
This moose was in front of the Kenai Fire Dept on Christmas Eve. It was actually looking in the window when we first saw it. We used a flash as you can see by the reflection in it's eyes. One of the problems with moose is that their fur does not reflect light, so it's hard to see them when they are crossing the road in front of you.
A few years back my family and I were on vacation and I took a picture of our reflection on a window, at the time I didn't think it came out that good but once I worked on the picture I loved the results so much that it has become a tradition.
Family First 4/52
I've been in Venice this week so couldn't share photos of my own family. But I do have two very young baby grandsons and so I could relate to the constant battle to keep up with the laundry.
Saw this on Burano which is famous for its fabulously multi coloured houses.

We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.
We want to thank you for your interest in our work and thanks for visiting our work on Flickr, we do appreciate you and the contributions you make in furthering our interest in photography and on social media in general.

This framed photograph of my mum and dad is on the wall at the top of the stair in my house. I see it every day.
They've been gone a long time - mum died in 1986 and dad in 2000. Despite that, I often 'talk' to my mum and I think of her when I cook things she taught me to cook. I also think of her when I cook things she would never have heard of - and I wonder if she would have liked these 'new' foods.
Dad is the reason I moved to New Zealand. He lived here - in Wellington which is the city I live in - for about ten years in the late 40s and early 50s. I grew up hearing about what a wonderful country it was, how life was so much better in New Zealand than in east London. Dad said if he won the pools we would all move to New Zealand and he would buy a farm and his son (from his first marriage in New Zealand) would help him run it.
I met my brother when he went to England in December 1990. In 1993 I went out to visit him and to travel around the country. I loved it and didn't want to leave. I eventually made New Zealand my home in 2010.
