Don't worry, I don't normally do this to books :) This was a very old book I bought at a thrift store for the purpose of photography.

Isn't it an obvious choice to combine random objects for a theme like "Stack"? Please say "Yes, it is!" :) When I was looking for objects I could stack for the new MM theme, I noticed two smaller chestnuts on my desk which I'd collected in autumn right in front of my house (It's kind of a ritual for me to collect a few of the first fallen chestnuts in front of my house). In Berlin, many streets are lined with trees of only one kind. My house is a corner house, and the entrance is on "chestnut street", while most of our windows look out to "lime tree street", just in case you were interested ;)

So there I had these two chestnuts, two fairly round objects (asteroid-"round", or Mars-moon-"round", one could say), and I wondered whether they are stackable. Stackable without little helpers such as modeling clay, because I wasn't sure if we were allowed to use such "hidden tools" for the theme. To my surprise, they were stackable, "gluelessly" :) But I still needed a third or maybe a fourth object. This was the point where "glueless" turned into clueless, and I picked random objects that would both keep my stack within the 3-inch frame and which also would be glueslessly stackable on top of the two chestnuts. At first, I thought of using the small golden crown which you've seen before as an MM prop, but it kept coming off. So in the end the "winners" were the fairy light "cuff" that I've already used for the "Star" theme from August 2022, and two small carnation blossoms, because... why not?

My image is a single shot taken in shadow priority mode. Light sources were one LED light equipped with the semi-transparent yellow bottle cap for some warm light from the left, and another LED light directed against the gold-coloured cardboard which I've used as a backdrop. That cardboard was part of food packaging, and it has an uneven, slightly reflective surface which created some nice bokeh. Processed in DXO PL6, Lightroom (where I did some masking on the chestnut stack to bring out more details), and in Analog Efex, where I used one of the "Subtle" film types (Fundy 2) and a slight vignette to add a vintage, matte touch to the image. Again, this is on the bigger side, the height of the stack is slightly more than 6 cm / 2,36 inches, and I've cropped the image so that the width of the frame meets the three inches rule as well.

For this image, I put water and dish soap in a crystal dish, placed some fairy lights behind, and blew a straw into the water to get big bubbles. I found out that soapy water doesn't taste so good :)

Once upon a time this was a real bulb, it is now empty and was painted on with flowers and the words "Frohe Ostern". It has a hole in the bottom and I stuffed tiny fairy lights through it to light the bulb from within.

The top and stopper of a souvenir Tres Mujeres tequila bottle I got when visiting Tequila, Mexico. The bottle is lit within using white fairy lights. The blue bokeh dots were from blue fairy lights draped over my camera and reflected off black plexiglass behind the bottle.

Oops, lost the tags...using my old MacBook, a good way to reawaken my brain before caffeine.

Size: 5cm/about 1.97 inches, but deceptively magnified by the Laowa 60mm lens.

(Reminder: In January 2022 I asked for help and a Flickr support hero removed both of my accounts from the Explore algorithm. I feel more relaxed and in the moment.)

Warning: Don't try this after using a rescue inhaler for hayfever. The steady hands of my husband replaced these tiny dandelion seeds or dandelion clocks into the itty bitty bottle (1.8 cm tall/ 0.07 inches tall). Made by a wee glass blower.

This reminded me of hand stacking, which is when people (usually a sports team) get together in a circle and pile their hands on top of each other before a cheer.

# 3 in my cutlery series

In case you can't tell what this is.... the "eye" is a pen, on one of my drawing books. I put fairy lights in the background for bokeh.

I used my Lensbaby Velvet 56 wide open with a 12mm extension tube, so the focus is very soft, in spite of doing a five image

in-camera focus stacking.

I have been purging. I gave away about five hundred art rubber stamps, scrapbooking supplies, ink pads, art books, and lots of other art supplies and just stuff I don't use anymore. I used to do a lot of mixed media art work but now that I am concentrating on photography, no point in keeping it all. In going through the many shelves yesterday, I found this roll of silver mesh and thought it would be great for photographing. A glass cutting board and some fairy lights put it together.

I used my Pentacon AV 80mm lens as well as an extension tube for this. I also tried it with my Oreston 50mm, and it created hexagon bokeh, which I thought was interesting, but I didn't want to post both.

I'll be off Flickr for the weekend as I'll be busy - see you next week :)

I'm not sure how this happened. I was shooting forks in my lightbox with fairy lights and the one light ended up looking like an egg yolk blob sitting on the fork tines. I added the smoke in post, because it just needed it :)

I've seen so many other people photographing forks and spoons and thought I'd give it a try, but with my own spin on it.

Crazy Tuesday Theme : Lights

#2 in my cutlery series

These are forks again, as you can probably tell. I got right up close with the Oreston vintage lens and 36mm extension tubes in a lightbox.

Can you guess what this is by looking at it?

Okay, I'll tell you :)

I didn't know spoons came this small. These are four tiny spoons held together by a ring - the sizes are a dash, a pinch, a smidgen and a nip in descending order. Here, the dash (the largest) is sitting on the other three. They are lying on a piece of glass, with sparkly paper in the background.

Then, I did another image without the spoons, and tried some light painting for the first time, having been inspired by others on Flickr. I used my fairy lights and a slow shutter speed and swung the lights back and forth in front of the sparkly textured paper. I then layered the light painting image over the first.

It was so much fun that I ordered some more coloured lights and want to experiment more with them.

I played with light painting again the other day, with my new coloured fairy lights. I set up the lens ball on an iPad and had a black background. It was a lot of fun! There's lots more experimenting to be done :)
