Union Pacific hotshot stack train PDCS-Z was rolling east through Fairfax behind former Chicago and North Western GE C44-9W 8719 and a pair of Union Pacific painted C44-9Ws in 1997.
I stumbled on a Minnesota Prairie Line train on my way to the RCPE, so I decided to take a detour in hopes of getting some nice photos along the rarely-shot line.

The historic May Company building, which is being restored and will house the Academy Award Museum opening sometime in 2020, is free of the scaffolding and looks bright and shiny, just like the red and silver Petersen Museum across the street, which was brand new a couple of years ago.
Soon LACMA down the street will be undergoing it's renovation as well.
A lone Union Pacific GP38N sits under the tungsten glow of the nearby yard lights at UP's Fairfax Yard on a quiet spring night. An old stainless steel piggyback trailer with the UP shield and wings hand painted on the bow sits on the ballast now being used as a storage container, but still serves as a reminder of the Golden Age of railroading from decades long past. Coincidentally enough, UP 813 was originally built for the Missouri Pacific as MP 2313 in February 1981, meaning this former GP38-2 is also on home territory.

The 1300 South Amana Switcher with a trio of 700s pulls an Alliant Empty out out of the CIC and up Fairfax Hill. Seeing a trio of geeps pulling an empty is always a treat as it's normally a GEVO or 2 for power. Hopefully, we'll get another run of geeps pulling coal before Alliant Energy converts the Prairie Creek Generating Station to natural gas in 2025.
The Fairfax Bridge is a steel-lattice three-hinged arch bridge spanning the Carbon River in Melmont, Washington. The bridge's deck sits 250 feet (76 m) above the river. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Two classic EMDs idle under colorful skies near the yard office in Union Pacific's Fairfax Yard located in Kansas City on a cloudy April evening. Notably, UP GP38-2 630 was originally built for the Missouri Pacific as MP 2130 in January 1975; the original operator of Fairfax Yard.
