My camera's automatic smile detection software focused on this sewer grate during winter storm, thinking it was somebody smiling! I usually keep those settings disabled.

Het zelfportret van 2015 heb Ik geschilderd in Daler-Rowney acrylverf, het blauw en bruin zijn gemengde kleuren. De zwarte romp is een ontwerp, gebruikt bij het portret van Gilbert & George - ooit een abstracte kop, getekend op computer en het origineel gespiegeld, en pas jaren later, in 2013, gezien dat het wat had van Gilbert & George toen ik hen laattijdig ontdekte bij de Herbert Foundation aan de Coupure.
Het blauw van het hoofd symboliseert mijn weelderige haardos, een gezicht is er niet vandaar een witte vlek.. Ik pleeg te zeggen dat ik "niets en niemand" ben (zoals mijn familie het wilde), zo heb ik ook jarenlang het Italiaaanse "uomo senza volto" of "man zonder gezicht" als codenaam gebruikt.
Een wapenschild bij een portret werd vroeger weleens geplaatst bvb bij het portret van Jan Parmentier uit 1627 dat deel uit maakt van de collectie van het Sint-Janshospitaal in Brugge. Mijn heraldisch familiewapen, ook een witte vlek met bruine rand, is een metafoor verwijzend naar familieverhalen uit het verleden met een existentiële impact op het heden.
Portretten schilderen is niet mijn specialiteit maar ik heb mijn eigen portret - vanitas vanitatum - wel laten maken door Koen Pattyn in olie op doek, anno 2013, door Sarah Melloul in acryl op doek, anno 2018 en door Helena Cnockaert in een textielwerk, anno 2019.

Back in the early 1980s I attended a computing class where we learned how to program in ‘BASIC’ on the BBC Micro computer and also looked at the wider changes computing would bring. One question that surprised my class was ‘how much will your name and address be worth in the future?’ My teacher had it right all those years ago with the major Internet players now deploying all sorts of sophisticated tracking. Targeted ads on social media have come to be regarded as a possible threat to democracy.
New technologies are emerging all the time, with facial recognition being a fast developing area. China leads the way in the use of facial recognition, with 170 million cctv cameras, many fitted with artificial intelligence. As an example, some cities use the technology to name and shame jaywalkers with information being sent to the police. Put facial recognition together with the plethora of data gleaned from online data mining and suddenly 1984 doesn’t seem quite so far fetched.

I guess the ultimate irony is that I’m guilty too both in having taken the picture and in unlocking my iPhone X using, yes you guessed it, facial recognition technology!
As countries undemocratically move towards implementing their New World Order goals of a net zero future, urban areas will evolve into smart ghettos. We’ll transform this world into one big community of Agenda 21 smart cities. We’ll use community-led initiatives to make Personal Carbon Allowance Programs palatable and socially acceptable to the sheep. We’ll promote an authoritarian system for tracking your carbon emissions. The levers of mass formation psychosis will be much more impactful through global citizen re-education programs. There has been much advancement in Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as AI and machine-learning. These technologies will play a key role in tracking your lifestyle emissions, so that you can make ethical decisions. AI will monitor your consumer habits by using your historical and real time data, providing recommendations for your needs. AI will provide an in-depth analyzes on the choices you make for food, transport, and utilities. Energy efficiency apps will provide statistics about your lifestyle emissions, helping you to reduce your consumer-related footprint. Awareness of your home energy consumption will help you change your lifestyle, thus you can do your part in saving the planet. Eventually AI will control every aspect of your life. It will plan out your days. It will control how long you sleep and what you eat. It will control your home utilities. We must be willing to change how we live and work, so that we can combat the effects of geoengeneered climate change. For a greener tomorrow we must lower our lifestyle emissions. We must lower our expectations and become a lifestyle emissions slave. Climate crisis rationing, do your part to save the earth! You are nothing but bottom feeders, carbon polluters! Our plan is not only to depopulate the earth but to replace humanity with human-machine hybrids. It’s for the greater good of the planet! You will be deemed obsolete, because you aren’t part of a sustainable future—net zero human-machine hybrids are the future. Survival of the fittest—Outwit, Outplay, Outlast!

Frida Kahlo was a young medical student in Mexico City when she was in a terrible accident and was bedridden for months. It was during this time that she began her painting career that made her world-famous. She met Diego Rivera, who was already a famous painter, in 1922 when she was 15. He was a teacher at her Preparatory school, and she swore that one day she would be with him.
Their paths crossed again in 1928 through a mutual friend, and were married the following year. Diego had had two previous wives and his union with Frida proved passionate and stormy. They were both unfaithful to each other, Diego being a notorious womanizer and Frida having affairs with both men and women. Frida once said, “I suffered two grave accidents in my life. One in which a streetcar knocked me down... The other accident is Diego.”
Frida and Diego divorced in 1939 but remarried just a year later. They both continued to paint and enjoy worldwide celebrity, befriending Leon Trotsky after his exile from the Soviet Union, with whom Frida had an affair. Despite their troubled marriage, the two painters loved each other very much and respected each other's work. Diego, long known as the most famous Mexican artist, said of his wife, “Frida Kahlo is the greatest Mexican painter. Her work is destined to be multiplied by reproductions and will speak, thanks to books, to the whole world.”
Frida died of ambiguous health complications in 1954. Diego later wrote that the day she died was the most tragic day of his life. He died three years later, having remarried to his agent.
Wokeism: Invasion of the Body Snatchers
More and more people are changing; they are being replaced by something alien. On the outside they look the same, yet on the inside they are not. They have been taken over by an alien entity (cult) called wokeism. It’s an ideology that takes over individuals, replacing their original thoughts and values with an alien perspective/dialectic: the oppressed vs the oppressor.
These clones adapt to their surroundings by absorbing the memories and experiences of those they replace. These woke look-alikes adapt their dialectic to the society they want to infiltrate. They use their parasitic dialectic to absorb the identity of the culture, replacing its morals and values. The more they multiply, the more they disrupt the social order and challenge the established norms. Their goal is to undermine traditional Western values and attack the traditional family structure, until democracy and capitalism and the family are destroyed forever.
These body snatchers destroy the individual, thus destroying their individuality. These useful idiot’s are conformists—collectivists. Wokeism (neo-communism) revolves around a collectivist theology, which suppresses one’s own thoughts and opinions. Wokeism is a culture of groupthink, which is null and void of critical thinking and self-reflection. Wokeism destroys individuality, because collectivism prioritizes the goals of the group over the personal rights and freedoms of the individual. Wokeism creates a culture of fear, where individuals are called racists if they don’t conform to the cult’s dogma. Wokeism focuses on subjective experience, emotional validity, and social justice over objective truth. They like to say that truth is relative, yet they hold their ideology as the absolute truth. The brains of young children are not wired properly to process conversations about alterative ADULT sexual lifestyles. These things teach children to think that sexual predatory behaviour is acceptable and normal. And now they give underaged (immature) teens puberty blockers and sex changes. Can anyone say: the mental, physical, and sexual abuse of children! The woke brainwash their young minds, destroying their innocence in order to control them. Indeed, the children are only pawns. If they can control the minds of the children, they can control the future. As their religious doctrine states: the end justifies the means. Moreover, these anti-bullies love to bully those who disagree with them: “A Regina-based LGBT group Queen City Pride has asked a stadium in the city to cancel an Evangelical Christian event called ‘Come Together’ over the organizing group’s promotion of Biblical views on marriage and sexuality.” “The issue is never the issue. The real issue is the (communist) revolution.”
These anti-police leftists are pro-criminal, and they want high crime and lawlessness. Then, when chaos breaks out, they can start their commie revolution. These anti-poverty activists loot and burn poor neighbourhoods. These anti-slavery crusaders never advocate against the modern-day slave trade. They only use slavery, which has long been abolished in the United States, as an excuse to bash and demoralize their enemy—America. Why? Because these liars don’t care about slavery, they only care about their reparations (money handouts) and their woke (communist) revolution. These anti-border zealots hate the West, thus the West is being overwhelmed by unsustainable mass migration. Globalism: open borders! We are being flooded with cultures that are incompatible with Western culture, so that our culture will be destroyed. How about all the unvetted criminals and terrorists being allowed to enter the US? How about all the unvetted gang and cartel members pouring over the border? Globalism: global citizens—immigration is a human right! Flood the West with cheap unskilled workers to drive down wages and living standards. Raise taxes and impoverish the native citizens in order to support the never-ending flow of illegal immigrants. Less housing! Less jobs! A strain on every system and on all infrastructures! These communists only care about destroying the West, so that they can have total power. It’s only about power dynamics!
Likewise, these climate activists are anti-human, and the Degrowth polices that are being implemented will lead to poverty and depopulation. BTW: these pro-palestinian protests around the West are being organized by communists and islamists. Both of these subversive religions are working together, because they hate the West and Western (Judeo-Christian) values.
How about we add another dynamic to the equation? Governments (and government funded schools), corporations, and the United Nations are using DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) Social Credit Scores in order to indoctrinate and control the masses with their woke neo-communism. BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street Bank are pushing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Social Credit Scores in order to control corporations with their New World Order agenda—“a new model of governance” (stakeholder capitalism/neo-fascism). Part of the ESG Social Credit Score system is CEI (Corporate Equality Index). CEI is the reason why Dylan Mulvaney and his lifestyle are being pushed on us. “At stake is their Corporate Equality Index—or CEI—score, which is overseen by the Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBTQ+ political lobbying group in the world.”
A global Social Credit Score System is in the making, and it will control all people and governments, all businesses and corporations. So why is a woke commufascist (Anti-Christ/Beast) Social Credit Score system being built to enslave us? Why are we being prodded towards a system of Central Bank Digital Currencies, Digital IDs, Facial Recognition and Biometrics, Social Credit Score systems, and Fifteen Minute Cities? Furthermore, this will eventually lead to transhumanism—the microchipping of humanity (666). Now, do you think that all these things will lead towards more individualism or towards more collectivism? Without true freedom there is no true individualism. Will you become part of the Hivemind of the Beast—the Beast Matrix? Remember, one day you will not be able to buy or sell without a Digital Mark. I think you know where this is all heading! Will you be one of the last true human beings, or will you become part of the woke transhuman-hybrid (alien) collective? Beware of the body snatchers! Jackie and John F. Kennedy were both the children of prominent New England families, and belonged to similar social circles; they sometimes attended the same social events before formally being introduced. This happened in May 1952 at a dinner party organized by their mutual friends. The two began dating shortly after, and announced their engagement in June 1953.
The year after John was elected senator of Massachusetts he married Jackie in a large ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island. During John's run for presidency, Jackie stayed at home due to her pregnancy and supported her husband by answering letters, taping commercials, and giving interviews. When John was sworn in as president on January 20, 1961, Jackie became one the youngest First Ladies in U.S. History, at 31 years old.
The Kennedys in the White House are remembered as a modern and young family that hosted many artists and intellectuals at the presidential home, raising the status of the arts in America. John's popularity as president was matched by Jackie's talent for entertaining and her popularity with foreign dignitaries. She famously restored the entire White House in 1962, her first major project as First Lady.
John was assassinated on November 22, 1963, an event that shook America to its core. John and Jackie were in Dallas, Texas on a political trip when John was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald during an open motorcade. Jackie was unharmed. John's assassination was a pivotal event in American history, on par with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and September 11th, 2001.
Jackie spent much of the following year in mourning and attending memorials. Five years later, after the assassination of her brother-in-law Robert F. Kennedy, she married Aristotle Onassis, a wealthy Greek who could provide privacy and security for her and her children. Jackie survived Onassis by nearly twenty years, and died in 1994.

This is a command line utility to sync the facial recognition data from the desktop version of Picasa to Flickr. Makes tagging people in photos with the location of their face a lot faster.

Apparently 10 of my self-portraits (probably, though could be other people, I suppose) were uploaded to IBM’s borg.
Despite IBM’s assurances that Flickr users can opt out of the database, NBC News discovered that it’s almost impossible to get photos removed. IBM requires photographers to email links to photos they want removed, but the company has not publicly shared the list of Flickr users and photos included in the dataset, so there is no easy way of finding out whose photos are included. IBM did not respond to questions about this process.

I had a quick play about with the facial recognition on 'MyHeritage'(.com) and apparently I look 71% like a woman. Hurrah.
Grace Kelly was already an established actress when she headed the American delegation to the Cannes Film Festival in 1955. She met the charming Prince Rainier III at a photo shoot during the festival, and afterwards toured the Prince's gardens and zoo.
Grace resumed acting after returning to America, but began a private correspondence with Rainier. The Prince visited America later that year under speculation that he was looking for a wife: a 1918 treaty stated that if Rainier did not produce an heir, Monaco would revert to France.
After a year of courtship containing “a good deal of rational appraisal on both sides,” the Prince met Grace's family and proposed. They were married in April 1956 to great fanfare. Grace acquired 142 official titles, the counterparts to Rainier's, and later bore the Prince three children. The birthday of their first child, Princess Caroline, was declared a national holiday, marked by free champagne which flowed throughout the principality.
The royal couple remained married until Grace died in an automobile accident in 1982. The Prince grieved her deeply and did not remarry. He was buried alongside her after his death in 2005.
No matter how much I might hope that iPhoto's face matching ability will get better over time, it still throws out surprises sometimes.
And yes, maybe this is what I get for allowing it to tag a painting of the actual Isaac Newton, knowing full well that someday, when I least expect it, it will start seeing Newton's face in the bass guitar being held by my cousin Keith as he rocks out. Yup.

Our pasts are always there; in the background. They may be left behind, abandoned, but more than ever, never anonymous.
No autocrat's facial recognition, no bot, no cookie, loyalty program or metadata left this. No government account, that creeping cross-referencing slime of control was here; until now. All that is here is artefacts telling tales of yesterdays gone.
In the background are the Glenburn shearer's quarters, what's left of the hay shed poles and the dark line of the latest crop of Pinus radiata first planted on this land in 1927.
No enterprise now stirs the shearer's quarters. They are silent ruins of a time when sheep powered this land. Without the sheep nobody cuts, cures and stores hay here anymore. In a good season like this one not even the hares, rabbits and kangaroos can keep up with the grass.
Just here, directly in front of you and next to a newer star picket and wire fence is this forlorn fragment of an older slip rail post; see that window there, a glimpse into the past.
Too much is gone to say if all of the old fence line was post and slip rail in structure. Sometimes they were just a closure for what might otherwise be a gateway, like the ones between our shed and fence where Molly the house cow was tethered for milking. In a background time when materials were expensive or simply unobtainable, labour was cheap and trees plentiful, cutting holes in spilt posts with a heavy mortising chisel, an axe or adze solved the day to day management need on the farm.
All of that steel in the bundled up wire, the posts and the remaining strands were made with energy from coal. Will a time come when these old things should be "mined" because their recovery releases less CO₂? The slip rail fence did less harm to our planet and is returning to the soil. They aren't making anymore iron deposits; Earth's atmospheric chemistry changed irreversibly so it can't happen now.
In the background are the lessons of irreversible change, like our future extinction if we fail to look and learn.
John Adams, our nation's second president, met Abigail in 1762. He was quickly attracted by her shy, bookish charms. Two years later they were married by Abigail's father, a Reverend. After their marriage ceremony Abigail and John rode a single horse together to their new home, a small cottage in Massachusetts.
A leading voice of the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, John sought advice and solace from Abigail back home in Boston. Abigail is best remembered for these letters, which demonstrated her strong intellectual capacity and her earnest love for John. John was strongly attached to Abigail, who was an excellent mother to their children while he was away.
During John's presidency Abigail was the first First Lady to preside over the White House. She was opinionated and politically active, nicknamed “Mrs. President” by her opponents. John sincerely trusted Abigail's knowledge and opinion, and often sought her approval. After John left the White House he rejoined Abigail in Massachusetts, where she died in 1818. Greatly saddened by his beloved wife's death, John died eight years later on July 4th, 1826.
Napoleon and Josephine met in a way dissimilar to our other couples. Napolean was a Major-General in the French Army and in order to achieve his goals he needed a rich wife. Josephine saw him as a possible patron, and cultivated his friendship. They became lovers in 1795. Napolean proposed in January 1796, and they wed on March 9, 1796, just before he took command of the army in Italy.

In 1923, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon married Prince Albert, after turning down his first two proposals. She was the first commoner to legally marry into the royal family in several centuries. They had two daughters together, Elizabeth (now Elizabeth II, the current queen of England) born in 1926. And Margaret, who was born in 1930.
In 1936, Albert's brother, King Edward VIII, abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson, a divorcee, and Albert was crowned King of Great Britain and Ireland as George VI.
They had a very loving relationship that redefined the British Royal Family. The bond between King George VI and Queen Elizabeth we remarkable. Although the King was initially crippled by a terrible stammer he overcame this problem with incredible support from his Queen. The couple gave great hope to their country during a time of war. This history formed the basis of the 2011 Oscar for Best Picture, "The Kings Speech."
Although most people tend to think that Richard and Elizabeth first met on the set of Cleopatra in 1963, that isn't the true story. Richard wrote in his diary nine years earlier, “A girl sitting on the other side of the pool lowered her book, took off her sunglasses and looked at me...She was lavish. She was a dark, unyielding largesse. She was, in sort, too bloody much, and not only that she was ignoring me.”
Years later, the two would meet again. They began their love affair on the set of Cleopatra and their lives were forever intertwined. Burton and Taylor were married between 1964 and 1974 and then again in 1975 for another year. Although married twice and divorced twice the two were the loves of each other's lives.
Just days before Richard's unexpected death in 1984 at the age of 58 he had written Elizabeth a letter. In it, she says, "In it he told [me] what he wanted. Home was where Elizabeth was, and he wanted to come home." She never moved the letter from her bedside and after she passed away, at the age of 79, Elizabeth demanded to be buried with the letter from her true love.

Most of the "magic" happens thanks to Jason Saragih's c++ library for face tracking web.mac.com/jsaragih/FaceTracker/FaceTracker.html. The face tracking library returns a mesh that matches the contour of the eyes, nose, mouth and other facial features.
That way the mesh obtained from a photo is matched to my own face in the video. Applying some color interpolation algorithms from Kevin Atkinson's image clone code: methodart.blogspot.com/ gives it the blending effect that can be seen in the final footage.

Annie Oakley was raised in Darke County, Ohio. Known throughout the area as a tomboy, she was an impressive talent with the rifle. In 1881, the Baughman and Butler shooting act arrived in Cincinnati. Frank Butler, who was the star of their show, exclaimed that he could beat any local marksman.
When Butler was told that he had been challenged by a young lady he found it amusing and accepted. Annie won the challenge as well as Butler's heart. They were married in 1882.
The couple was married for 44 years until Annie died in 1962. Frank, heart-broken, followed her to the grave only 18 days after her death.
