It's not a recent shot,but it was taken on 23rd St between 5th and Avenue of the America's (6th Avenue) in Manhattan (a Home Depot store is a couple of stores down to the right for those curious to know).What's interesting about these buildings is that they were once brownstone houses back in 1857 in an era when brownstones were first seen on city streets.Cast-iron façades and additional floors were added to them in later years.The building with the Starbucks below was once a brownstone belonging George Frédéric Jones and is where his daughter,Pulitzer prize-winning novelist Edith Wharton (The Age of Innocence,Ethan Fromme) spent her childhood years.Miss Wharton didn't like brownstones and later said that it was the "most hideous" stone ever quarried.Her father,Mr Jones (or her two great-aunts according to another source) was said to have coined the phrase "Keeping up with the Jones's"The white blotches you see on the façades are from the sun.

The historic Ocean Center Building on Ocean Blvd. in Downtown Long Beach is getting a facelift. It's being converted into residential units.

From Wikipedia: The Ocean Center Building is a 14-story, 197-foot-tall ... building in downtown Long Beach, California, which is currently being converted from office space ... built in 1929 by architect Raymond M. Kennedy.

When it was built, Pine street turned into the Circle Pier. Now it's a bit of a walk to get to the Pacific from here, but back then, the building was right on the shoreline.

I took this shot of the amazing Grand Canyon in 2012 on a very old Lumix TZ7 point and shoot. Over the weekend I've given it a bit of a makeover in Photoshop. I was quite stunned at how much detail the orginal JPG shot actually captured.

Looks like someone is taking time to make repairs to this nice looking (and unusual) black painted barn. Hopefully this one will be standing for many more years to come! The barn quilt is a great touch as well.

I knew it!!! That's why that kiss felt so sticky

Wheeling 775 emerges into perfect morning light with freshly repainted ex-D&RGW SD40T-2 #5412. The unit was shopped in back September after smoking a traction motor, and received a facelift while it waited for 6 new wheelsets to arrive from Ukraine. In addition touching up the nose, the shops added black numberboards (an homage to its original setup) and repainted the flying letters on the long hood. After years of being the ugly twin, the 5412 is now the class of the Rio Grande legacy roster.

NJ TRANSIT F40PH-2CATs 4119 and 4120 sit on Track 8 and 9 inside the Meadows Maintenance Loco Shop during the agency's employee only Family Day event. The 4120 received extensive body work after colliding with a fallen tree on the Pascack Valley Line this summer, while the 4119 received cosmetic touch-ups leading up to the event.

The traffic rushes on as work continues in the restoration of the Houses of Parliament. The scaffolding and tarpaulins didn't seem to put off the hoards of tourists when I walked across Westminster Bridge the other night.

So many details to see in this black and white photo of construction scaffoldings before an old building somewhere in Berlin.

A forty year old tank passes it's NDT radiography thickness test and receives a much needed facelift before re-commissioning and a return to service.

New cladding, insulation and trace heating with a lick of paint for the pipework.

Watching the contractors work on this gave me goosebumps.

After working the cement facility at Lodi, CSX local job L320 returns east at the Friendsville Road overpass on the afternoon of April 3, 2024, with a rare YN2 geep on point. This bridge recently got a facelift that included new chain link fences, but you can still fit a camera under the fence, and just barely get the signals in the shot at 28mm...
