A hot humid day in August produced wonderful contrails on the F35 as it emerged from the clouds at the Thunder Over Michigan airshow.
“The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is the cornerstone of our future fighter force and air superiority. Achieving air superiority in a future fight is strongly dependent on full-spectrum dominance. The F-35 and its 5th Generation capabilities are part of our fighter force design that outpaces key competitors.”
–Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., Chief of Staff, U.S. Air Force

Performing at the RIAT air show 2018 is the USAF F-35A Lightning II in an explosive demo of this powerful and extremely noisy fifth generation aircraft.
Known as a shock collar or vapor cone, a cloud is generated by a sudden drop in pressure associated with high speed that allows water vapor to condense as vapor.
Although many believe these clouds appear when aircraft “break” the sound barrier, a shock collar can appear when the planes fly at subsonic speed, in humid air.

The most recent Air Force vs Navy NCAA Football game featured a flyover by four F-35 Lightning II fighter jets. While it appears that all were from Eglin AFB, two of them carried the "NJ" tail code making them Navy jets from the VFA-101. Additionally, these air craft carrier based F-35C planes are painted with the "Grim Reaper" moniker.
