Finally got myself a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 MK2 lens today. Been waiting for one to come into stock in my town for ages. {Not a great photo, taken with P&S}

Playing with my "nifty fifty" that arrived in the post that day. Bokeh balls behind are the lights on our Christmas Tree. Taken in the day with daylight coming through the window to the right. Not the best focusing but it was AF and I had only had the lens for about 3 minutes.

Taken from the same viewpoint. The 45mm works better as an image but in quality terms they are similar. I can see on the church clock about half a mile away that it is 8:40am!

I forgot to reset ISO to 200 but it hasn't had any noticeable effect in good light.

The Grand Hotel commands the skyline of Scarborough South Bay. It was in its time a world class hotel but struggled to survive through recent times. It was bought by Butlins and transformed to a budget destination which may be ignominious but probably helped it stay open.
