The Ironbridge at Ironbridge lit for the Christmas period 2022.
Ironbridge, Shropshire.
UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The beach adjacent to Hotel Vila Gale, at Santa Cruz, Madeira, by night with the moon reflecting of a very calm ocean
The Northern Lights, taken in Iceland on 24/11/2017.
Conditions on this evening were, temp -25c, wind 40mph, photo taken on a tripod being held to the ground by myself. kneeling and my partner acting as our windbreak.
30 Second exposure on ISO 800
A quick note to all who wish to photograph the Northern Lights, it is very rare that they can be seen like this with the naked eye.
Looking at the Opera House over the Opera Bar, a bar very much close to our hearts and was a frequent watering hole duing our 7 week visit in 2014
The Opera House is one of the most amazing buildings I have had the opportunity to visit. The acoustics inside are amazing. I would recommend if in Sydney do not miss the chance to visit.
San Fran from across the bay by night. Taken from Treasure Island looking over the Bay towards the city of San Francisco on a 30 second exposure using a Pentax K200d. December 2010
In my humble opinion Shrewsbury invests well in making the town look festive with a great display of lights running through the town. This is in the Market Square.
Merry Christmas Everybody
Extended exposure of storms passing by Middle River in Maryland. Captured with the 10 Stop ND Filter.
Stacked ND filters (3 & 10 Stop) for this 4 minute exposure of the near sunset sunlight on the rocks. The clear skies started to get some clouds passing overhead towards the east over the ocean, and their direction and speed were aligned well for the extended exposure fun.
Had lots of beach walkers stop and ask what I was shooting. Had fun explaining and showing them the results on the camera screen. Keeping distance from them at all times ...
Fun making a painting on the camera sensor.
This natural phenomenon is constantly changing in the night sky, you could constantly take photographs and each would be different, what an amazing challenge
The temperature was about -30c with a bit of 40 mph windchill, my tripod was on its lowest setting and I was on the ground holding it down.
Extended exposure with the 10 Stop ND filter as storm clouds passed by near sunset over the pretty Bowman Lake.
In this capture you can see a satellite that fades into few as the sunlight starts to hit it and then it proceeded quickly across the night sky in this extended exposure.
This Pentax model's IR/UV cut filter was weak and allowed enough IR light through with this 720 nm filter with an extended exposure. This result is from a focus stack of 12 images.
I was making the long trek back to my car after a disappointing photo shoot at dusk... seeking to photograph some elusive deer in the nature park, but they kept themselves nicely hidden in the forest. Darkness fell quickly.
Then I came across this beautiful fountain lit with the most glorious light. I had seen this fountain during the day, but didn't realize how stunning it looked at night. I had to stop and take some shots... both short and long exposure. I was hoping to catch some water droplets at short exposure, but it wasn't until I got at home that I realized how artistic the extended-exposure shots were.
This is an example of the age-old adage:
If your planned shot isn't happening, move around; if you keep your eyes open, photo ops are all around us.

Interesting how the light, season, and weather can make new compositions look interesting. The case here taken from one of the piers there in Middle River and looking east back at Wilson Point and the homes all lit up there at sunset.
Captured with the 6 Stop ND to get the extended exposure around 6 seconds smoothing out the breeze on the waves, and getting the pretty muted reflection on the river surface.
The rainbow was starting to quickly fade as I took this exposure there looking down Middle River towards the end of Wilson Point. With the extra low tide the sea grass there in the river can be seen at the water's surface in this extended exposure too. Making for some interesting details there in the water foreground.
After a long day at work I was looking forward to sitting down and resting some while processing some of the weekend sunset captures ... especially on this rainy day in Maryland when I noticed some spotty sunlight around 7:30 this evening. I debated for several minutes if I wanted to head somewhere ... and was about to say no ... when Ms. Krach came home from dinner with a friend and told me to head down and see my dad ... and see what happens.
Glad I listened to her and headed down. As the sunlight was coming through the clouds I could not get through the traffic quick enough (people seem to drive always really SLOW in front of me when near sunset ;))
In any case I made it down to Middle River about 15 minutes before sunset ... and was snapping off some under the pier captures as the tide was really LOW and there was a pretty nice beach there, was when I noticed the incredible rainbow there. Snapped some from the beach, and will process them hopefully tomorrow after work ... but here is the view I took from out on the pier next to my Dad's pier that gives a nice view of the end of Wilson Point. Just happened to be Under the Rainbow perfectly there. Ms. Krach can be right 'every once in a while' ... heck, who am I kidding, she is ALWAYS RIGHT :))
This was captured with the 6 Stop ND to slow the shutter down for around 8 seconds, smoothing out the reflection just a little ... if you look close the sprinkling of rain that was happening while shooting this (and hence the rainbow) can be seen hitting the water making all the small rippled circles there in the extending exposure. Pretty cool effect.

Long exposure of the storm clouds passing by Canyon de Chelly in Arizona. The patterns in the clouds from the extended exposure are neat here in that they show the turbulence there in the air above the canyon and in the storm.

I was hiking around the lake into the evening, and was all of a sudden surprise to find another out there by the lake. It was pretty empty by this time.
This young woman there was writing away quietly ... and 'yes', I said writing and NOT typing as you can see there in this extended exposure. Not many people write with a pen or pencil anymore ...
I did not want to disturb her any longer than this quick capture I set up, hoping she would just continue on writing there like she did. Thought it would add some nice human element to this glorious landscape view.
If you view large, the extended exposure allows you to see just how she holds the writing instrument and moves it about, just in case you forgot how to do this ;))
