In the wee hours I'll meet you
Down by Dun Ringill
Oh, and we'll watch the old gods play
By Dun Ringill
We'll wait in stone circles
'Till the force comes through
Lines joint in faint discord
And the storm watch brews
A concert of kings
As the white sea snaps
At the heels of a soft prayer
Whispered

Facade of "Haus Neuerburg", a building designed by architect Fritz Höger in the late 1920s for a cigarette factory in Hamburg-Wandsbek. It constitutes one of the finest examples of the so-called "brick expressionism".

"Between the idea

Between the conception

life is very long, when you are lonely (added Morrissey, some time later).
This is a landscape version of my square photo called 'Simple Abstract 75'.
This image is looking up at balconies of Wardian London, one of two similar towers in Canary Wharf, East London, using intentional camera movement. The architects are Glenn Howells.
I like to think this photo has the feel of a scientific abstract image taken by the great photographer Berenice Abbott (1898 to 1991).
Sprinkenhof is a part of the Kontorhaus district’s group of buildings located in central Hamburg. Kontorhaus architecture is renowned for being an example of Brick Expressionism style, developed in Germany in the first half of the 20th century. Designed by brothers Hans and Oskar Gerson and Fritz Höger, Sprinkenhof was built between 1929 and 1943.

Squint a little and you'll understand immediately what Jackson Pollock's abstract expressionist paintings were all about. Art mirrors nature even in its more abstract sense.

The German poem "The Three Sparrows" by Christian Morgenstern (see below) dates from 1921 (Era of Expressionism).
Because of copyright, I can't simply translate the poem, but the content is about the three sparrows Erich, Franz and the "cheeky" Hans, who sit in a bare hazel bush in winter.
The poem describes in impressive atmospheric density the protection and security that the three little birds can give each other in the icy cold, with Hans, who sits in the middle, he has the warmest.
Die drei Spatzen
In einem leeren Haselstrauch
Da sitzen drei Spatzen, Bauch an Bauch.

This photo was taken in Toronto back in October 2017. I've posted square photos of this building on here, but not this one, until now.
The building is 'Exhibit Residences'. Architect: Rosario “Roy” Varacalli
The new Design Museum in Kensington opened in November 2016. The building was formerly the home of the Commonwealth Institute and it was opened in 1962. The architects were RMJM (Robert Matthew Johnson Marshall). This photo shows a section of the original roof structure.
Detail shot of Musée d'Orsay, an art gallery in Paris, France, on the Left Bank of the River Seine. It is housed in the former Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built in 1898 - 1900.
The station was designed by three architects, namely Lucien Magne, Émile Bénard and Victor Laloux.
I understand that the building ceased being a railway station in the 1970s and, at one point, it was threatened with demolition.
The museum officially opened in December 1986.
Photo taken in May 2026.
