Banana tree leaf vendor. He supplies to many places & is involved in this trade since he was young. The daily routine. I was taken aback seeing his technique and balance !

He was barefooted. Shoe is a luxury to him, as he may only be earning that much with which he can manage the bare minimum. Motor bike is a necessity for him in this trade, that is why he is having one. How much someone can earn by selling banana tree leaves, and that too which do not fetch a good price? At least he has a noble profession, whatever small it may be !

...three weeks later (following "Striving 1")
After several inches of snow that managed to stick when all of our mini snowfalls didn't, and freezing temperatures halting the emerging plants, we finally have flowers on the trees and the grey palette is beginning to lift.

Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis)
The bird is of a dark chocolate brown colour with bright yellow bill, legs and orbital skin. The ones found on the island country of Sri Lanka tend to be of a darker shade of brown. Indian myna has a conspicuous white patch which shows when the bird is in flight. This bird has a variety of sharp calls that is uttered with an absurd bobbing of the head.
It is a very visible bird thanks to its affinity to humans habitats. It has a habit of following humans around.
It is an omnivorous and eats whatever its habitat has to offer. This myna could be found in a groups or as pair, that is known to share domestic chores.
INTERESTING BIT:
Since it is found in PAIRS people choose to to call it 2 for joy! It is a kind of SUPERSTITION among the teenagers that if u see 2 together then all Good will happen to you and a loner will bring in sadness.
I still beleive this superstition till date! It works for me even now!
Kristin was an absolute joy to have in front of the camera. Having been in beauty pageants when she was younger, she know how to strike and hold a pose, take direction, and change her expressions and posture ever so slightly in order to create something fresh and new. It was quite difficult narrowing the field to the select few I wanted to post Flickr.
I searched Cookeville over for a location that seemed relatively interesting and that I had never used before. I came across this alleyway one night and loved the different textures with the brick on one side and the stone on the other. I scheduled the shoot at 9:00am to boost our chances of getting some sunlight between the buildings. The weather proved slightly challenging because of the changing ambient light resulting from a cloud obscuring the sun for a bit. Overall, I thought we managed quite well.
strobist: 1 White Lightning x1600, boomed above camera, diffused by a Mola Demi. 1 White Lightning Ultrazap 1600, camera right, diffused by a 64" PLM with diffusion cover in place (fill light). 2 White Lightning Ultrazap 1600s, camera left and right (behind subject), pointed at the opposite wall in order to bring a little bit more detail to the background. 1 Canon 580EXm camera right (behind subject), yellow gelled, bare (used as rim light). Strobes triggered via Cybersyncs; 580EX triggered via optical slave. Strobes powered by 3 Vagabond IIs and an Innovatronix Explorer XT. A Genus ND Fader Filter was used.
Gull in Whitby
UPDATE MAY 2011 - #37 on Explore for 25.05.2011 - thank you very much everybody! :-)
Had a visit to Whitby few weeks ago, I forgot how nice this place is having not been there in a while but plan to have a revisit to get a photo of the harbour and pier hopefully when it s a bit quieter.
Anyway, whilst walking back off the pier noticed this chap just sitting on the wall. He was sitting there quite nicely and some nice person decided to give him their left over chips, he looked at them and just turned his nose up at it which I thought is very unusual, maybe the Gulls in Whitby must be well fed. Anyway, the Gull you see in the background flying away was sitting with him and then just flew off which he didn't seem happy about and then promptly started squawking and this photo was the result, he was almost playing up to the camera :-)
Hope everyone's week is going well.

Information
Gulls (often informally called seagulls) are birds in the family Laridae. They are most closely related to the terns (family Sternidae) and only distantly related to auks, skimmers, and more distantly to the waders. Until recently most gulls were placed in the genus Larus, but this arrangement is now known to be polyphyletic, leading to the resurrection of several genera. Gulls are typically medium to large birds, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking calls, stout, longish bills, and webbed feet. Gull species range in size from the Little Gull, at 120 g (4.2 oz) and 29 cm (11.5 inches), to the Great Black-backed Gull, at 1.75 kg (3.8 lbs) and 76 cm (30 inches).

With the arrival of spring on the island I decided to head up to Jeju University with the hopes of getting a few unique pics of people enjoying the warm weather and blooming flowers.
I should have known better as there were cliches everywhere. A young woman throwing petals into the air as her boyfriend cheered her on and clicked away with his camera. A young teen cupping her hands around her face and tilting her head as her friends took her picture, pink flowers everywhere behind her. The atmosphere was great and the images I saw were cute but not something I was interested in photographing.
Then, as the sun began to set and I rounded the corner of the street my car was parked on, I came across this older woman walking slowly down the path in front of me. She must have been about 70 years old and she was clearly enjoying the first hints of spring after a very long winter. The golden light falling down on her was beautiful and the colorful flowers and young woman in the background were framing the scene perfectly.
Suddenly, she turned around and, despite her age, leaped up into the air and grabbed a handful of blossoms. Satisfied, she turned around and slowly headed back down the path.
Spring has arrived.

Here is my third and final entry to the tips and bricks contest, a microscale build of set 497 Galaxy Explorer. I made sure to include every detail, from the ship to the base and satellite, to even the small rover. It does fit inside the 20x20x20 requirement, and I made sure that the ship does not extend past the base, which is 20 studs long. This was also my first attempt using a new editing software called gimp.
Thanks for checking it out!

Le coincidenze… Davvero coincidenze?
Vi auguro buon venerdì sera e buon week end! Sento che ci sarà il sole… In tutti i sensi…! :)
Ps: in onore della serata in discoteca che questa sera avrà come tema “Girls just wanna have fun”, posto non solo questo scatto, ma anche una canzone…
Una foto, una canzone:
