Explored December 5th 2009

Yesterday while shopping at HEB grocery store I needed some Ginger to make our pickled Ginger slices, cut paper thin and picked with apple cider vinegar, onions and garlic. with half a cup of sugar. Great with salads.

I decided to capture this unique looking Ginger root, which to me ressembles a mythical Griffin of some sort, from tropical Asiatic & polynesian herbs of a family Zingiberaceae.

I have passed by these classic red stools outside "D's Diner" for over two years now, always meaning to stop. Well, I finally did. This is one of those great old diners that just screams the 50's. Can't you just picture the girls in their pink poodle skirts and angora sweaters, perched on these stools, sipping malteds?

THIS is Americana at it's finest.

Long live the diner.

My little granddaughter, Rosie May, dutifully modelling for me at our belated Thanksgiving day meal on Sunday. (Everyone comes to dinner with a pop-up backdrop, pair of SB-600s, PowerSnoots and a range of lenses, right? That's perfectly normal. So why don't my family believe me?)

Thought I'd never have another shot in Explore. This squeaked in for November 27th. Highest position - 244.

I just love Busch Gardens' tiger exhibit.

This is an old photo from 2006. Four families including us went to visit the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, USA. My son, still small at that time, was exploring the Morning Glory Pool, a natural hot spring. Bacteria live in the water, which gives the pool its distinct colors.

I took this photo with a point and shoot Sony camera. I now HDR-processed it to give it a smooth look while enhancing the micro-contrast. The colors are pretty accurate, that is, no change in color saturation compared to the original.

I can't figure out how pics pop in and out of "Explore." I just don't speak "algorithm"

A juvenile wagtail exploring the wonders of the world.

Btw, the title was entered before this picture became Explored... :) and it's NOT a B&W photo...

Thanks.

I just found out this was Explored a year ago yesterday. It's been a crazy year!

Banana tree leaf vendor. He supplies to many places & is involved in this trade since he was young. The daily routine. I was taken aback seeing his technique and balance !

He was barefooted. Shoe is a luxury to him, as he may only be earning that much with which he can manage the bare minimum. Motor bike is a necessity for him in this trade, that is why he is having one. How much someone can earn by selling banana tree leaves, and that too which do not fetch a good price? At least he has a noble profession, whatever small it may be !

Just got back from six day stay at Disney. From all the new (New Fantasyland, Test Track and Legend of Captain Jack) to all the Christmas Festivities (decorations and crowds), I need another vacation to recover.
