NIGHT FALLS OVER LINVILLE - Share it if you like it!
On a recent trip to the Linville Gorge, I wanted to stop and do a little night photography, also known as astrophotography. Looking over the gorge towards Morganton, NC, the glow of the yellow city lights and the deep blue night sky made a beautiful palette of colors perfect for a gorgeous photograph. Anyone who is a Motown citizen knows the familiar horizon line of Hawksbill and Table Rock Mountains, but I wanted to create an image that people don't normally see. Adding something different, like the night sky full of stars, to something so familiar puts a different perspective on an iconic silhouette. It is our job as photographers to do exactly this so that the world can experience views of things that they may not normally see. This is the number one reason I love my job so much! Enjoy, and make sure you visit the gorge soon for some of the most beautiful and wild vistas in our area!

September 26th: Yesterday in Kodiak, Alaska turned out to be as much about the people as the remote place itself. We wandered through the fishing harbor where we met local fishermen, who generously shared their time and allowed us to photograph them in their working environment. We also visited the beautiful Russian Orthodox Church, with its colorful blue onion domes, and photographed the deacon, surrounded by religious icons and remnants of Kodiak's Russian heritage. Another memorable encounter was with a local man and his team of biologists working to eradicate hawkweed, an invasive plant threatening the island's native vegetation. He showed us a specimen and explained their efforts to control its spread. What began as a day exploring a small Alaskan town became a wonderful opportunity to connect with the people who live and work there, which, as you know, is one of the main reasons I love to travel.
