"Are you doing a late one?" Katie stood at my office door in her coat, signalling that it was time to go. It's the first time she's worn a coat in months, which tells a story in itself. Ever since Lockdown started in the UK, or at least so it seems, the weather has been unusually good. Even in March, when we were first instructed to work from home it was nice enough to sit outside without a coat on. March is usually a bitter and blustery month in the UK. April is often only marginally better for that matter. But apart from a below average June, the summer has seemed longer this year. Until today it has at any rate.

"No, I'm coming with you," I replied. It was already nearly 6pm. I wasn't in the middle of anything and our boss had already left, so there was nobody to look heroically pious in front of. I switched off my computer and followed her out of the building. We look after each other like that as left unchecked we're both likely to carry on working until the caretakers throw us out during the crazy autumn term. Sometimes I think someone should bash our heads together and knock some sense into us - all this unpaid overtime doesn't impress anyone, although it does just about keep our heads above water.

Today had started wet, then been bright, and rained again before the evening sun filtered through the clouds - a recipe for the soft grainy warm yellow light that I saw on the slopes of Carn Brea as I drove home. Although it was just about an hour until sunset, I knew there was time to change quickly, hoping that everything was in the bag and head to Wheal Coates, the nearest coastal focal point on the map. I arrived to a blast of a distinctly chilly onshore breeze coming in from the north and immediately put my raincoat on over the one I was already wearing and tried to reconcile the conditions to the sweltering heat that had found me switching on the office fan just two days earlier. Still, when you can stand and gaze all the way along the coast down to St Ives and beyond just an hour after leaving work, a bit of fresh weather seems a small price to pay.

In my last post I talked about my routine of planning and preparing a shot, often waiting happily for an hour or more before even reaching for the camera. Today there was no time to reach for the unwritten textbook in my head as I hastily assembled the camera on the tripod to catch the yellow path over the sea reach the sunbeams bursting from low cloud on the horizon. Things weren't helped when it dawned on me that I'd left my glasses in the car, bringing instead my Ray Bans. Right now I was up there with Stevie Wonder in the looking cool stakes, but I only had a very small advantage over him in discerning what was happening on the three inch screen in front of me. It's not the first time I've done this when I've been in a bit of a hurry to get to a location.

Normally I stay well after sunset, most of the way through the blue hour watching the light fall and the colours fade into the darkness, but this evening it was too cold to hang around and gaze at nature's beauty. I headed home, to soon be passed by an escaped horse running in the direction of St Agnes, followed at a judicious distance by a conscientious driver with her hazard lights on. When I got home I phoned the police for the first time in my life to report the antics of our equine friend. They already knew and were on the way. Hope they got there in time to lead it to safety.

Amazing stromy scenes from the winter trip to Utah this season…It was completely like a painting there

Taken with a DJI Air 2S at Hodge Park in Kansas City, MO

Is photography art? Of course, like painting, photography is able to engage, inspire and evoke emotions in the recipient.

In the other hand, Yann Arthus-Bertrand said: “The earth is art; the photographer is only a witness.” I'm as a fine art photographer trying to capture most iconic landmarks in a unique and fresh way to inspire you to see this beautiful world we live in.

Seeing through the lens the abstract and wonderful world of Antelope Canyon, you can understand how the light reflects off the walls, filling the shadows, and the colors radiate holiness from the rocks. The captivating beauty of these sandstone canyons awakens the senses and inspires the spirit. The whole scene has a magical glow created by the light of the canyon.

Smooth, sensuous lines and vibrant abstract colors make this canyon a stunning and astonishing shooting location.

The red light of the canyon casts a glow that only the camera can capture. It's like another world in the frame. The canyon looks like it was carved out by a Master craftsman. So it really is, and this amazing masterpiece revealed to our admiring eyes!

What do you see in this masterpiece of nature and what feelings does it evoke in you?

It's a joy to share my favorite images with you as an art form and to bring peaceful feelings and good memories to your home. I do any kind of art prints and you can check it here: www.etsy.com/shop/AlexDahovPhoto

This would be greatly appreciated, and thank you for supporting the local arts.

Nestled in the heart of Islamabad, the breathtaking Margalla Hills offer a serene escape into nature. With lush green trails, panoramic views, and diverse wildlife, these mountains are a haven for hikers, photographers, and adventure lovers. Whether you're exploring the famous Trail 3 or enjoying the sunrise at Daman-e-Koh, Margalla Hills never fail to mesmerize. 🌿️

Wheal Coates was busier than I’d have liked it to be. It is the start of half term I suppose, and on the previous day I’d already witnessed the evidence of a massed cavalcade of fun seekers heading along the A30 towards our far flung corner of the country as I’d tried to make my own short journey east towards a wet and windy Ladock Wood. The approach to Wheal Coates entails a stretch of single lane tarmac where it’s normal to have to pull in for the odd passing car and exchange of the quintessentially British “thank you” waves as you make your way along it. Even in summer I generally only have to stop a couple of times. Yesterday no less than ten cars decided to travel in the opposite direction as I tried to make progress along it. I even had to reverse twice. One of the beneficiaries of my generosity didn’t even bother to wave. Quietly unimpressed I continued.

When I arrived in the small car park it seemed even more full than at any time I saw it in July or August. A father chided his son for unidentifiable reasons as they approached the car right next to where I had parked. I decided to stay put until their squabble was done and they were on the way to wherever they were going as the latest of the bands of rains that had been passing throughout the day came straight over us. At least the light looked promising. Finally deciding it was safe to leave the car without involuntarily joining anyone else’s domestic troubles I headed down the main path, taking a right hand turn to a place where I fancied I’d find some space to myself.

Unfortunately, the spot I settled on for my composition guaranteed that the isolation I always look for wasn’t going to happen. Wheal Coates always attracts both locals and visitors along its web of clifftop paths, and I’d set my tripod up next to the South West Coast Path itself. I’d arrived with the intention of looking for some strong foreground interest to work with my wide angle lens, but was immediately drawn to the spray drifting over huge rocks in the sea a few miles along the coast, which found me reaching for the telephoto instead. Within moments the light changed for the better and the girl in the wellies, accompanied by an older companion with a dog yards behind her strolled into the scene. As the opportunity to catch a moment thudded somewhere between my ears it struck me that I only wanted a single figure in the foreground, and with the camera off the tripod I had to go for a quick, handheld composition before the rest of the party joined her. I soon forgot the shot as the light intensified with a dark bluish cloud complementing the sunlit orange tones in the foreground heather – that almost sounds as if I know what I’m on about.

The stream of humans continued, a young chap engaging me on the subject of art and photography before racing off to find his easel so he could paint St Agnes Beacon. Later I was joined by another local photographer, who asked if he could set up next to me. I learned to my surprise that he was a dairy farmer with a herd of 400 cows and lived next to Ladock Wood, the scene of my previous photo taken a day earlier. I was amazed that he found time for any hobbies at all. I think he was too. Sadly for him he’d missed the best of the light, the sun sinking behind a bank of ominous slate grey cumulus and with no apparent intention of reappearing for the rest of the evening.

And so I returned home to review my images, deciding that this one with the sea spray spreading over the cliffs was the one to share with you. The trouble was that it wasn’t level – I often struggle with horizons – and when I tried to straighten it the girl in the wellies ended up right at the edge of the frame. So I had to move her. Not bodily you understand – we hadn’t been properly introduced and there’s a pandemic on as you’re probably aware. I’d never tried this before and in truth my Photoshop skills are more or less non-existent. But somehow I blundered my way through yet another hack and lifted her up and moved her five yards along the path. I’d rather not have done this, but very occasionally you just have to. It doesn’t seem to be that much of an untruth when some people routinely use sky replacement tools in their final images – although I should add there’s nothing wrong with that if it’s what works for you. It's all about choice - it's just that I won't be doing it because to me, photos are about moments, memories and feelings.

Content that she was now more comfortably positioned I looked closer into the image and saw people everywhere. Usually I prefer to cull unwanted participants in my images, but as I was about to hit the content aware fill command on the first group I hesitated. They were part of the story after all, I reasoned. And so they’ve stayed just where I found them - enjoying a Sunday stroll on a wind blown Cornish clifftop.

I've always been quite pleased with the fact that Nancy Sinatra topped the charts in the UK with the song that I've used to name this image in the week I was born. Top of the chart for four consecutive weeks she kept "Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown" by the Rolling Stones at bay in the number 2 slot, with the Mindbenders at number 3 with "Groovy Kind of Love." When she was eventually toppled, it was by the Walker Brothers with "The Sun Aint Gonna Shine Anymore." Darn, music was good in 1966. If I'd been born a few years later my entry into the world might have been heralded by Joe Dolce, or Rene and Renato, or even St Winifred's School Choir. So I'm glad that I arrived in 1966, just in time to witness England win the World Cup and the Beatles take things up a notch with the release of the still fresh sounding "Revolver." Cool Britannia indeed.

The reason for the name of the image comes from the fact that I was hiking when I took this image in the spring of 2018. The West Highland Way is one of the most popular long distance trails in the UK and runs from Milngavie, just north of Glasgow, to Fort William at the gateway to the western isles and the highlands of the far north of Scotland. Officially measured at 96 miles (although two of us with GPS trackers both recorded 108), it will probably take you between 4 and 8 days, depending upon how much you want to enjoy it or whether you're in a hurry to get to the pubs in Fort William before closing time. It will take you across some of the most stunning and remote scenery in Britain as you gradually accumulate the miles, leaving edge of town parkland and passing through gentle pastures towards 20 odd miles along the unsullied east bank of Loch Lomond. Once your time along the famous loch is done, the scenery ahead of you becomes ever more imposing and dramatic as you make your way through the Scottish Highlands towards lonely Rannoch Moor. the largest wilderness in Britain. And then you will arrive here, beneath the Great Herdsman, Buachaille Etive Mor at the gateway to the mythical Glencoe pass, where the Three Sisters stand opposite the Aonach Eagach ridge, towering above you on either side and reminding you how small and insignificant you really are.

We'd been here before more than once, the first time on our first West Highland Way hike three years earlier, and then a mountain walking expedition when I'd stood on its summit before visiting four months earlier than this moment for what remains the most rewarding and productive photography trip of my life. Each time this mountain, possibly the most photographed in the entire UK, has dominated the visit. Its sheer enormity and darkly brooding presence demands attention. This image was a bit of a grab and go affair as I quickly strayed from the path while my fellow hikers ignored me and carried on striding purposefully towards the famed and feared Devil's Staircase. I liked the "mini me" conical rock in the middle of the River Etive that mirrored the giant in the background. Not the sharpest photo I've taken, but one that brings back special memories of a wonderful few days when the usually damp and fickle Scotland basked inexplicably under sultry Mediterranean skies..

I've enjoyed making the most of what I have around me during this difficult year and I know I'm luckier than many in being surrounded by some of the most dramatic coastal scenery anywhere. But when we can travel more widely again, the distant northern echo of the Scottish Highlands is going to be tugging away at the imagination. I can't wait to be able to return.

Not much in life is certain. Death and taxes are the oft quoted things that will surely befall us all according to Benjamin Franklin. Although I wonder whether he anticipated the arrival of the global giants that would one day place their registered offices on a conveniently obscure atoll somewhere near the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and render the second half of his assertion rather less assured as well. I'm pretty sure I know one or two individuals whom I should have reported to HM Revenue and Customs years ago for forgetting to fill in their tax returns as completely as they might have done, but then again I like my car to still have all four wheels on it when I leave for work each day.

I think we each have a few things in life that are pretty certain. For example you can guarantee that every time I pour myself a gin and tonic at home, I will get the respective proportions completely wrong, and unlike the ones you may have sampled in the pub, it will taste of gin - overwhelmingly in fact. Possibly linked to this I am certain that despite my best intentions I will not get up two hours before dawn tomorrow to capture a misty sunrise image. There's only one each of 5, 6 and 7 o clock in every day in my life and unless I start experimenting with products that are best left avoided for my own safety, that's not going to change. I'm also pretty sure that I will not finish reading "One Hundred Years of Solitude" before this time next year, despite having started it several months ago. It's one of those books we're apparently "supposed" to read. I just haven't quite got into the rhythm of it yet. Let me know if I should continue with it won't you? I normally read about six books during the annual fortnight on the beach, and one more during the remaining fifty weeks. I suspect that's not an uncommon phenomenon.

There's one other thing I feel quite certain of, and it's that for as long as I'm able, I'll keep returning to this place. I'm not enormously well travelled in truth. I've only been out of Europe once in my life and that was just for one week, and only just out of Europe too for that matter. There are places in the world that I'd quite like to visit, but it doesn't burn inside me like it did when I was a young man. I've been to Iceland and I'd like to go again, and I'm really keen on going to the island groups of the Hebrides, the Faroes and Lofoten in the next few years, all with the camera bag of course, But those ambitions aside, I'm very content with my lot. I live ten miles from here, my favourite place in the world. I love watching how the sea, the land and the light change here throughout the seasons. This is the shot I was looking for when I came here three weeks earlier in a storm and got something completely different, albeit in exhilarating conditions. This is my happy place where I come to stand and gaze and dream and plan. The place where the seals watch me watching them. The place where I'm still finding new compositions each time I visit. This weekend I finished up here on Saturday and Sunday, watching happily as the colours changed in the sky.

There are some places that we like to photograph once or twice and then move on because we think our business is done there. For me at least, Godrevy isn't one of them. Happy almost midweek everybody!

Never saw this before and most probably, that's why I'm likely to call this my "Picture of the trip", without really looked through a lot of shots.

He was standing at the end of a small water-crossing, blocking our way back and taking his time to drink, having a little mud-shower and itching himself on the dead tree stumps around.

When he sat down, I couldn't believe it and I'm so happy to get a few good shots of that moment. :)

One of the best sunrise experience I have encountered. Pacific Northwest West is the best location to bond with nature..

He looked good when we saw him first, later we were informed, that he was sincerely wounded by a Buffalo.

The next day we went there, we saw the horn-wound in his belly as he walked a bit to get back in the shadow... unlikely that he made it.

A moody, atmospheric view of the Grand Canyon as low clouds swirl over the rim and the Colorado River snakes through the ancient rock. Captured during a passing storm, this image emphasizes the raw power and scale of nature's most iconic chasm.

There are people who labour under the misapprehension that YouTube has only been created for people who want to look at videos of skateboarding cats or people miming Bohemian Rhapsody into a pretend microphone - usually in the form of a hairbrush. I have a friend who likes to share clips of small children talking away about My Little Pony or some such entertainment, who innocently drop in an unfortunate Anglo-Saxon profanity that they've overheard at home more than once before. "I can't think where she gets it from....." the parents giggle nervously into the camera.

So while it can't be denied that YouTube has released a torrent of mind numbing mediocrity designed to further rot our crumbling brains, it also comes with enormous benefits. Thanks to YouTube I managed to plan a very successful hiking adventure in Scotland a few years ago, and a cycling expedition in France too. I learned how to put my tent up in eight minutes single handed (so much easier than reading the instructions), and I discovered that you can make an emergency stove with an empty beer can and a small supply of methylated spirits. I even found out how to change the light bulbs on my car - which used to be easy, but manufacturers like to build cars that can't be attended to without a laptop and a bloke with a pencil behind his ear these days.

What has made YouTube especially helpful in recent years is its landscape photography contributors. I'll wager I'm not the only one among us who's never been on a photography course or attended a Photoshop lesson. Why would you do that when you can sit in front of Nigel Danson or Mads Peter-Iversen on a Sunday morning and watch them impart their wisdom while you dose yourself up on coffee? Why would you spend money to sit in a draughty classroom when people like this so evidently love the exact same type of subject that you do and produce output that both enlightens and entertains to well?

I took this shot on the Saturday before Christmas Day. That very morning I'd watched Nick Page explain to me why I needed a very expensive pair of knee length rubber socks and Nigel Danson had reminded me to wrap up warm on cold days with a merino wool base layer (although hiking had already taught me this). As I stood on the clifftop above Chapel Porth I thanked Henry Turner for leading me to the camera bag I've been looking for ever since I started - you can use the waist straps to open it without having to dump it on wet ground, and I swear there are still undiscovered compartments in mine. It's Henry, a youngster no older than my own children, who has taught me to embrace the weather whatever it brings. His enthusiasm for our rotten British climate is surprisingly persuasive you know. This Christmas I've been out with the camera in heavy rain no less than six times, and I only started to get fed up on the fifth occasion. Without Henry's good cheer I'd have probably stayed indoors.

If it hadn't been for Mads Peter-Iversen it might not have occurred to me what a difference is made to an image by having a human presence to give it scale. Fortunately my patience paid off when this wonderful couple got that bit closer to the edge of the incoming tide than anyone else was prepared to. I do wish one of my mentors could teach me to take a decent picture on Chapel Porth Beach though. Visit after visit over the years has found me forever scratching my head in confusion. I've only ever got one image down there that I'm happy with and I seem to have inadvertently deleted it from my Flickr stream.

I was at Chapel Porth again today - without the camera - and I've got another idea, but it will have to wait for now. Tomorrow morning's return to work after an eleven day Christmas break hangs over me like the Sword of Damacles and I haven't yet found a YouTuber who can persuade me on the positive aspects of being chained to a desk all week. It's probably nearly bedtime already........
