You don't always realize the immensity of the mountains around you when you are driving through these passes. A glance back at where we were shows a tiny ribbon of road winding through monster rocks.

Lawerencetown Beach

Clouds reflect off the northern part of Okanagan Lake. This beautiful lake is 135 kms (84 mi) long and 232m (761 ft) at it's maximum depth. Ellison Provincial Park and Cameron Point reach into the lake while Fintry Provincial Park is far beyond. Captured Saturday before the smoke from the 'Stickpin' wildfire in Washington State drifted in. ~ Vernon, BC - August 22, 2015

Had an amazing opportunity to photograph this magnificent creature against the stunning backdrop of Canadian Rockies.

Red-breasted Sapsucker Pair

As luck would have it the freshly washed CN 2141 (For the CNoR Celebration) was second up behind a filthy M-2, I guess you can't always win!

The Wood Duck is one of the most stunningly pretty of all waterfowl. Males are iridescent chestnut and green, with ornate patterns on nearly every feather; the elegant females have a distinctive profile and delicate white pattern around the eye. These birds live in wooded swamps, where they nest in holes in trees or in nest boxes put up around lake margins. They are one of the few duck species equipped with strong claws that can grip bark and perch on branches.

I'm getting better at bringing out the colors of the stars in my time stack photos. I've been processing the timelapses twice for better results. One as I would normally process, bringing out the fainter stars by brightening, and the other with the intent of getting better color in the star trails, which involves bringing the highlights down, so the brighter stars don't get overexposed.

I made this time stack by combining 214 photos into one image. Here's a quick and easy Photoshop tutorial of the process I use to make time stacks. youtu.be/oTfp47jTzWc

A Squamish Nation totem pole welcomes all with open arms. This was hand carved from an old growth cedar log picked from the enchanted forest of Hollyburn Mountain. It faces southwest to the outer section of the Burrard Inlet and English Bay. Looking over the mouth of the First Narrows to Stanley Park and Vancouver's famous sea stack Slhx̱i7lsh, a.k.a. Siwash Rock. Up above on the cliff is a lookout which was the site of "Fort Siwash" where an artillery battery was mounted during the First World War. Captured at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada ~ January 23, 2022 🌲☁️

With open arms to all who pass our shores, this Welcoming Figure was raised at the first K'aya'chtn (gathering of ocean canoes). The Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) dedicated the figure to the citizens of West Vancouver on July 25, 2001, with this prayer on the plaque....

"Welcome/Guardian Woman in gratitude to all our Ta7as/Grandmothers.

For all the teachings of our lands, history, of who we are.

For all the teaching in the ways we take care of one another as:

elders, parents, brothers, sisters and cousins, our children, the future generations.

For all the teachings in the ways we share the wealth of the land, the seas and the air."

Lens: Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM with Hoya EVO ANTISTATIC Circular Polarizer filter.

CN 570 having just been relived 10 miles earlier at Kelly Lake depends the Fraser River Canyon at Moran.

This shot was facing South East. I used a 10-stop filter + a 3-stop ND grad. The actual lighting was very close to dark. I had to use a flashlight to find my way around.

3.5 minutes at f/2.8, ISO 100, 24mm

A flashback to lakeside camping in the Thompson-Nicola N region of British Columbia. This was the day after the Ashcroft wildfire started and the Village of Cache Creek had been evacuated. Smoke had filled the air during the day but by nightfall, the skies were clear. Captured at Harmon Lake, south of Merritt, British Columbia, Canada ~ 12:14am, July 9, 2017 🙏🌲
