The Eiffel Tower is an iron tower and it is the most famous Paris landmark and featured in films, video games, and television shows. It was named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. It was erected in 1889 as the entrance arch to the 1889 World's Fair. The tower is the tallest structure in Paris and the most-visited paid monument in the world. The tower stands 324 metres tall, about the same height as an 81-storey building. During its construction, the Eiffel Tower surpassed the Washington Monument to assume the title of the tallest man-made structure in the world, a title it held for 41 years, until the Chrysler Building in New York City was built in 1930.

After a full day out walking around exploring Paris we ended the day at the Jardin du Luxembourg. The Jardin is located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. It was created beginning in 1612 by Marie de' Medici, the widow of King Henry IV of France, for a new residence she constructed, the Luxembourg Palace. It covers 23 hectares and is known for its lawns, tree-lined promenades, flowerbeds, model sailboats on its circular basin, and picturesque Medici Fountain, built in 1620.

Street arte - Vitry sur Seine

Alexander Calder (1898-1976), Araignée Rouge, acier peint, 1974

The Red Spider

Red Spider, also known as The Great Red Stabile, is a work of art of the American sculptor Alexander Calder . This is one of the defense works of art in France.

This monumental sculpture ( stabile in the words of its author, as opposed to its mobile ) was erected in 1976 ( the year of the death of Calder) on the square of Defense, Defense Place outside the building . Measuring 15 meters high and 75 tons, it is made of steel painted red.

Pont Marie, Paris

Pont Marie station is located in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, near the historic Île de la Cité and the Seine River. The station is named after the nearby Pont Marie, a bridge that spans the Seine River. The Pont Marie metro station is situated on the Right Bank of the Seine River and is known for its distinct Art Nouveau style, with decorative elements such as ceramic tiles, metalwork, and ornate lettering.

The Pont Marie metro station provides convenient access to popular tourist destinations in Paris, including the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Île de la Cité, the Marais district, and the Saint-Paul neighborhood. It is also well-connected to other metro lines and public transportation options, making it a convenient transportation hub for locals and visitors exploring Paris.

On the way back from a day of exploring Paris this scene appeared as we crossed the Seine on the Pont D'Alma bridge in our Uber. The driver rolled down the window as I pulled out my iPhone.

As a photographer exploring Paris's contemporary landmarks, I was drawn to the striking angular design of the DUO Towers. For this image, I isolated one of the towers against a dark, dramatic sky, choosing a bold upward perspective that emphasizes its powerful geometric presence. The building's distinctive slanted facade and precise grid pattern of windows created the perfect subject for a minimalist black and white study. Through careful composition and post-processing, I aimed to create a high-contrast image that transforms this modern Parisian tower into an almost abstract geometric form. By eliminating color and embracing deep shadows in the sky, I wanted to emphasize the building's strong architectural lines and create a dramatic interplay between light and shadow. My goal was to present this recent addition to Paris's skyline in a way that celebrates its bold, contemporary design while creating an artistic interpretation that focuses on form, pattern, and architectural power.

Exploring Paris with Calinore. Photograph originally taken by Calinore. Edited by ethanea*

A quick stop for breakfast in a quaint bakery ahead of a long day exploring Paris.

Consider Tour Montparnasse as an alternative to the endless queues (or lines if you don't like French) of La Tour Eiffel... After all you can't see the Eiffel Tower from the Eiffel can you? (Normally you can go on the top of the roof of the 56 floor Montparnasse Tower seeing Paris 360° but we were unlucky arriving on that one day when the roof was closed and had to see it from a window).

Dear Flickr friends, this marks the end of my travel blog (and my vacation days) from France, posting 27 images in 10 days "on the run" while exploring Paris and Normandie. Big and humble thanks to everyone who took time trying to keep up....

It has been a ragbag of postcards and streetshots, of monochrome and color, that really put the "fun in photography" back, as traveling always do for me. I enjoyed the liberty of not considering if it "fitted in" on my stream, or if I had the time to post to groups, to visit contacts, to leave time to get more comments...

Still, the feedback - as always - is the main reason why I enjoy Flickr so much. And after being a "hurricane" of new images to upload it is back to work - and to a regular pace from now on.

As time goes by, there will be more additions to the "Paris/Normandie 2011" set though, obviously. Cheers :-)

One of the great places to explore in Paris, France, is the Louvre Museum!.

Taken while walking about exploring Paris. I avoided the long lines for the elevators and took the stairs on a warm fall day. You can really get some great insight into the internals of the tower along the way.
