The National September 11 Memorial and Museum in Manhattan. These pools occupy the space once filled by the twin towers. The low winter sun brought out amazing colors following a rainy day to give this image some pop.

An antique portable generator at the Motor Transport Museum in Campo, California caught my eye, with the way the golden hour light reflected off the gages. In color, I found the reflections somewhat distracting, but in monochrome I felt they worked better and the overall tonality of the image reinforced the concept of old power.

I'm a native Pennsylvanian, which means I am steeped in US History, whether I want to be or not. As a teen, admittedly, I had little appreciation for growing up in a place that seemed so entirely focused on the past. It was all I could do to join the Navy and see the world of today and tomorrow.
As I get older, I look back and wish I had appreciated the education about our past a bit more. When my parents were still alive, I visited PA as often as my hectic schedule would allow and, from time to time, took my family to places like this, where they could hopefully get an appreciation for the nostalgia that I was so quick to shun.
This is late autumn in Strasburg, Pennsylvania at the historic railroad where people get an opportunity to ride on passenger trains pulled by true steam engines like this one.

27 years, 39 missions, 149 million miles flown...now, a museum piece in the Smithsonian.
The most prolific orbiter shuttle, Discovery flew NASA's return to flight missions after both the Challenger and Columbia disasters, spent over 365 total days in orbit, and carried the Hubble Space Telescope into orbit.
The third of five orbiter shuttles built, Discovery was a much lighter craft (about 3600 kgs) than Columbia and Challenger, due to design optimizations. In addition to its milestone missions, Discovery was the orbiter which returned John Glenn to space at the age of 77 years, making him the oldest human to endure space travel.
Discovery is a key fixture in the Udvar-Házy complex of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum at Washington Dulles International Airport in Northern Virginia, where it replaced the non-orbital shuttle, Enterprise, in April 2012.

Describing the Creative Journey through Photography:
When I step out of my home, whether for a stroll or an errand, I know I'll be taking photographs. What will I capture? I'm uncertain. The sea, the sunset, the city lights... I photograph whatever my inner being dictates. It's serendipity! Then, when I return home, the real work begins. It's the search for images that tell a story! And the hardest part is the selection—there are images where my inner being says, "Look," but in reality, I don't see the beauty that serendipity provided at first! Then, as I begin to see, comes the astonishment at what has been given to me! But the search and the choice were mine! Just like in life!
This narrative reflects the journey of capturing life's unexpected beauty through the lens of a camera, where the inner intuition guides the eye, and the selection process reveals the surprising beauty found within the mundane moments. It mirrors the complexities of perception and the value of personal choice in cherishing life's nuances.

A trio of Ponderosa Pines reach for the sky from the dark confines of Wall Street, a slot canyon in Bryce Canyon National Park.
I'm always amazed at the determination displayed by trees. If you spend any time in the desert or mountains of the Southwest United States, you see trees growing - and thriving - in the most inhospitable locations. As someone from the mid-Atlantic United States, where there is so much greenery and balanced, temperate seasons, this is foreign to my experience, and I am consistently awed by the tenacity displayed in nature.
Hiking along the Navajo Loop just after sunrise on a late Spring morning, the Wall Street Canyon was pretty dark, but one look up revealed this scene where the organisms living here had learned to seek out the light on their own.
Congrats on Explore!

I wanted to try something different. I have preferred landscape photography over 'shooting people' for most of my life. But, I decided to try my hand at working with off-camera flash and movement.
This is my wife, practicing piano in our home, while I practice long-exposure with low level light and rear curtain sync flash photography. I particularly liked the effect produced with this image, and the black and white balances out the bright wedding ring with the rest of the scene's tonality.
