I spent a week with a wonderful, talented group of people filming a documentary on the Northern Lights for NHK, the Japanese public television network. We were able to make it only as far north as the Arctic Circle, and though we had a uniformly great time, we struggled with deep cold, powerful blizzards and a generally shy and quiet Aurora, until here ... around 2 AM on the morning of March 1, we were rewarded far beyond anyone's expectations.
This was the beginning of a truly astonishing Auroral storm ...
I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder racing with the wind
And the feeling that I'm under
Yeah, darling, gonna make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
Like a true nature’s child
We were born
Born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die
Born to be wild

Having some fun in the woods at Cottonwood Park. All done in camera no special apps involved.
Must view on black...thanks for all the views and comments.
Last week I was visiting Latvia, and the spring there was a bit ahead than in Finland, as you can see from this blue carpet of flowers and greenish city nature. Though there is an express-speed spring exploding right now in Helsinki, too. After past weeks' cold and almost zero temperature now here come 10 days in a row with almost +20C, practically summer temperature, not typical for the first part of May in this country. That means that spring which I enjoy so much would be over and turn into summer within few days, maximum a week, and there might be not enough chances to collect a good spring photo collection this year ...
But despite the limited time I had in Riga, it was lovely to see the flourishing nature, and this blooming grass area next to an apartment building that is located in one of Riga's suburbs next to a small lake Velnezers, or, in translation, devil's lake. I have been visiting that place very often since my childhood because my grandparents lived there, and now there lives my godmother, but I never have seen any devil there, they must have been chased away by local dogs and couples of swans who are very proprietarily circling the area... :-)
The photo was taken from a fast shutter speed jet. The human eye, it looks pretty smooth. Fast shutter speed makes it look like an explosion
it was really nice day with great sun and little clouds but on the spur of the moment i raised my head to the sky and saw this amazing view of a small storm of rain and i quickly took out the camera from the case and took the shot and ran back to the hotel.

I recently purchased a used Soviet made lens called the Mir 1b, I modified it slightly, and am now playing around with it. You can expect to see a number of whacky images like this. This is a double exposed long exposure, so there is one image in focus and one out of focus combined in camera. The result is pretty crazy.

The airplane traces look a bit like the sun is exploding.
Oh, and remember your mom telling you to never shoot directly into the sun? Right.
