All through 6th grade, Matthew has been working with a group to get a reduced speed zone put in front of their school. They've written the mayor's office, testified before the Community Council and Anchorage Assembly meetings, and attended other various functions over the past year.
Friday afternoon, Al Tamagni, president of the Abbott Loop Community Council, called a press conference and asked the kids to come speak about their cause to the media. A Channel 2 News reporter and camera man came and interviewed Al, the students' Social Studies teacher, and two of the students.
For our 2013 training with Field Trip Explainers we set up an exploration on light, shadow, reflection, and movement.
As I explained on the blog, to be invited to an Afghan Mehmani involves sitting on the floor while eating many different dishes of all sorts of tastes. And then of course the inevitable C...C..., which by the way is cheaper than water here.

I was criticised today by another photographer for moving back with my feet whilst doing a shot this afternoon. I explained that I was shooting on 28mm and he laughed at me and asked why I didn't just use my zoom.
I explained to him that as good as the zoom is and the fact that I do use it I wanted to shoot this particular shot on 28mm as it is the focal length that best represents the eye and what not due to the covering power of the lens and my camera format. I think I either confused him or confused myself lol
Anyway, hopefully he will check my stream, and if you do, then here is a diagram explaining it, I hope it makes sense now lol.

While i'm my own worst critique....
I do need as always explain for sub par results.
While i know my canon performs in direct sunlight it does seam to work well with best in sunny days
from best lighting condition . High noon it tends to max out. and with little sunlight in woods. and as you can see in this picture the sun is behind left to the subject im shooting.
also this wonderful steady subject... his physical feature are soft..meaning his color contrast if faded not sharp ,so the camera has a hard time ( or me ) in sharp focus . i had a very tough time in all of my shots for a good crisp photo.
But im not complaining.. i rarely get to see owls and i do look for them mostly in little holes in trees and this one was close,,, first distance was no further than eight feet. and the greatest ( as he moved ) was twelve .
Again the best way to find most wildlife is by making ZERO sounds
no talking and learning to walk without sound is a big bonus.
I personally discover that the amount of close animal subjects for taking pictures by me was purely stealth
and very slow movement and no noise.
again.. i even have ALL noise in check.. that is no one else to talk with and cell phone OFF. and camera mode sounds OFF.
and i really could do without the servo sounds and moter noise in my camera .if i could get a manual digital SLR i would,, but thanks to NO economy that's not going to happen.

As explained here, this shot had to be scanned from the original contact sheet as the original negative no longer exists, so there is an understandable lack of quality and detail.
Taken on Tuesday, October 30, 1984; Halloween Dress-Up Day at Model High School. This photo was taken during break, as everyone in costume (both students AND teachers) assembled on the gymnasium floor while the rest of the student body voted via applause for their favorite. I had a pretty good vantage point from the balcony of the gym for my two shots, thinking that I could enlarge them in the darkroom. Unfortunately, they did not come out very clear, and so I did not submit them to the school newspaper, thinking that someone else might have been taking better photos on the floor. However, as it turns out, NOBODY ELSE was taking photos of this event, and the newspaper ended up running only one photo (not one of mine) from the costume contest.
Alonzo Wilson explains the images on the panels of the "Flag Boy" costume during gallery tour. Jered Blanchard collaborated with local Indian crew, who loaned beaded patches to complete the costumes for the production schedule.
