While i'm my own worst critique....

I do need as always explain for sub par results.

While i know my canon performs in direct sunlight it does seam to work well with best in sunny days

from best lighting condition . High noon it tends to max out. and with little sunlight in woods. and as you can see in this picture the sun is behind left to the subject im shooting.

also this wonderful steady subject... his physical feature are soft..meaning his color contrast if faded not sharp ,so the camera has a hard time ( or me ) in sharp focus . i had a very tough time in all of my shots for a good crisp photo.

 

But im not complaining.. i rarely get to see owls and i do look for them mostly in little holes in trees and this one was close,,, first distance was no further than eight feet. and the greatest ( as he moved ) was twelve .

 

Again the best way to find most wildlife is by making ZERO sounds

no talking and learning to walk without sound is a big bonus.

I personally discover that the amount of close animal subjects for taking pictures by me was purely stealth

and very slow movement and no noise.

again.. i even have ALL noise in check.. that is no one else to talk with and cell phone OFF. and camera mode sounds OFF.

and i really could do without the servo sounds and moter noise in my camera .if i could get a manual digital SLR i would,, but thanks to NO economy that's not going to happen.
