I can't quite explain why I like taking pictures of little things close up, especially as things being blown up beyond their natural size is actually something I'm quite scared of (for example, I still can't watch 'Honey, I shrunk the kids'). Nevertheless, I love the detail in this - Nature's rubbish, nasty throw-away bits, and yet still so interesting to look at. So much variety. I also like this shot because I was playing with focussing on different parts of the scene, and this is one of several were the effect actually works (in my opinion) to improve the image.

Sooo, I guess I should explain. Steph built this 'chamber' out of drop sheets the other evening while I was working a night shift so that we could spray-glue, wipe down and pour a thick coat of epoxy resin over a giant 4'x4' wood-mounted photograph without destroying the studio. It was a great idea, albeit a little strange to discover upon my return.
If you've been to one of my outdoor exhibits, you've probably seen this type of piece before, but never in such a large size. This is a commission and a special challenge in many ways. For starters, the piece itself is larger than the room we usually work on these in. So far, the 'chamber' has worked well and will hopefully do the trick as we enter the final stretch, with a big resin-pour this week.

Explaining the reasoning behind this tattoo was very difficult for me. Watson made a lot of time for me, and I for him. We worked together for an extended period of consultation and came up with a design that was perfect.
