After a very long period of grey, the clouds finally cleared for one happy day, to be too quickly replaced by more grey today. There is nothing quite like a sunny winter day's blue and white in a pristine environment...a sense I first experienced and remember well from my skiing days in Colorado. No mountains here but pristine nonetheless. (SOOC)
I experienced a rare sunset while visiting Half Moon Bay, California. The 18th hole overlooks the Pacific Ocean and the sunsets are usually cloudy with no color; however, on this particular night the sky was amazing with wonderful colors reflecting onto the clouds. These golfers were getting out of their cart and walking to the 18th green which overlooks the ocean. (Edited in Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz)
It has been a while since I have experienced the spectacle of college “football” in the U.S. Maybe not as crazy as football in Europe or South America, but it has its own pageantry and craziness…Including the use of live mascots. Pictured here Ralphie #6 or #8 running before the start of the game. I won’t even address the issues of stress for these animal mascots, will save that for another time perhaps, but admittedly it is fun and crazy to see the handlers try and keep up with Ralphie. Past Ralphie’s have dragged handlers, run over them and have generally run amuck! Perhaps a little payback as less than 100 years ago, the American bison was teetering on the verge of extinction. By the beginning of the 20th century, the species' numbers fell from herds of roughly 40 million to less than 1,000 individuals. The impact on Native Americans was devastating. OK dialing down the seriousness it was a great game and went into double overtime and despite rooting for OSU, CU won it and the fans stormed the field, including my son who is a freshman at CU!
Experienced the first snowing of this winter season in Yosemite. The road was just cleared for safe travel.

Seismique was created to be experienced from inside the art. You walk through spaces where you are surrounded by the exhibit. Great fun, interactive, immersive art – loved the exhibit which appeals to all age groups. Museum location: 2306 Highway 6, Houston, Texas.

Experienced one of the worst weathers in recent summers in Iceland that day with extremely windy conditions and heavy rain. Captured this from the viewpoint at Hraunfossar Lava Falls.
Hraunfossar - Lava Falls - are beautiful and unusual natural phenomena. Clear, cold springs of subterranean water seep through the lava and run as tiny waterfalls and rapids into the Hvita River.
Pitt River Bridge, opened in 2009. This newer bridge was built higher, replaced an old swing bridge.
The Pitt River Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that spans the Pitt River between Port Coquitlam and Pitt Meadows in British Columbia, Canada.
I truly appreciate your kind words and would like to thank-you all, for your overwhelming support.

When I started doing this an experienced photographer told me 'if you're not careful you end up taking the same shots over and over again'
Over time I've come to understand he was 100% correct
This shot has shadow., reduced and varied light., in fact it reminded me of an oil painting where the artist deliberately plays with those things to add interest.,
It's not 'classic' photography
But it was my favourite shot of the day
Why? … Simply because it was different
At Eeersterivier, we experienced very high winds and of course equally high seas. Climbing down by the band of rocks which acts as a barrier between the beach and the sea, I had to make a quick getaway, but not before managing this shot!
When I recently spent a weekend in Prague, I experienced and captured many great moments. But there was exactly one that led me to the beautiful city on the river Vltava and that was this one.
I once wished, if only for a few minutes, to stand completely alone on the famous Charles Bridge. A bridge that is crossed by thousands of people every day in a city that never really comes to a rest.
And indeed I succeeded. After I had to wait a bit until the last party-goers had more or less straightforward crossed the river on their way to bed, I was the only one. What a great feeling.
It really didn't take very long until the first photographer (the first one after me) joined me and the moment was over. But these few minutes are now mine forever.

Over the years this aging mailbox has held many stories.
It held messages from the young adults far away, it held cards with well wishes and beautiful designs. But as everything else it's starting to fade away, now it brings notices of medical bills and mail that no longer make sense. It stands to represent a life well built and a serenity that can only be experienced, while taking a walk over to the storyteller. This mailbox stands tall, it still has more stories to tell. May they all be of hope and peace.
Well what an incredible sunrise me and my three clients experienced this morning on my one day autumnal Lake District workshop at Windermere.
We were driving en-route to Rydal to shoot the tree when the colours in my minibus wing mirrors lit up with stunning pinks and blues. Without hesitation I decided to park up at Waterhead and walk down towards Holme Crag. It was an inspired choice due to the copious amounts of beautiful little boats that made for great subjects. Here's one such boat that enjoyed being surrounded by the mist that rolled on the surface of the water.
HUGE thanks to Carl, Dave and Dean for their company today. It was a really enjoyable day's photography and a quick hi to Chris Sale, a YouTube vlogger who I bumped into on the shoreline of Rydal mid-morning. It was great to chat with you Chris.

If you have not experienced the Lion King this may be lost on you but this is where the Mountain Lion King is crowned or so I imagine at least in the misty morning light. I have to believe that any cougar would love the patch of ground between Sedona and Flagstaff as its territory, it meets the mountain criteria and I would be lion if I said it wasn’t beautiful to roam in. With the poor jokes out of the way and Sedona in our rearview we move onto the higher and more northern ground of Arizona
I took this on Dec 24th, 2019 with my D750 and Tamron 70-200 f2.8 G2 Lens at 102mm, 1/15s, f11 ISO 100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia ,and DXO Nik

Hell must be experienced
A world unique has been opened in the Czech Republic - HELL, which has no analogues in Europe or anywhere else in the world. You can find it near Hlinsko in Bohemia in the village Čertovina. The exceptional structure reaches a depth of 12 meters below the ground, where there are hundreds of meters of corridors and caves, and then the sky is eight meters.
The building resembles a giant overturned ship 65 meters long and 14 meters wide. A legend is attached to it, which says that in 666 devils sailed on hellships and searched for sinful souls. One night, however, they were caught in a violent storm and the whole ship turned upside down. Lucifer took his huge pitchfork, stabbed it directly in front of the bow of the overturned ship, and said, "Hell will never go to heaven!" He ordered all the furriers to kick and dig until they dug their HELL. And sinful souls in the earthly world who were not afraid to settle nearby called this place Devil's.
I have experienced something serious in my life. I have just returned from the hospital diagnosed with a heart attack. (Exactly they call it "Heart arrhythmia" ). I'll have to adapt and change my whole life now, even on flickr! My time will be even more limited than it is now, but I want to be faithful to all my friends here as much as possible. It may be that my comments will be a bit shorter and that I will not be active on flickr in between for a long time. I hope for your understanding, but my life and my health is important to me in this case. Maby it takes a long way to come back to my normal life. Please excuse me.

Melbourne experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which then became the wettest spring ever recorded. Now however, it seems that summer has finally arrived, albeit late, with glorious days of summer sunshine that bring out beautiful blooms on all the flowers.
This includes my "Nahema" rose in my rear garden which grows by my back terrace. My garden is quite shady, but it does live in a spot where it gets afternoon sun.
"Nahema" was bred by Georges Delbard, in France, from "Grand Siecle" and "Heritage" in 1991 and released in France in 2006. "Nahema" has established a reputation as one of the best fragrant climbers on the market. It produces masses of highly fragrant and deeply cupped old-fashioned blooms with velvety petals of delicate almond blossom pink. This rose blooms in profusion throughout the season with a strong perfume of citrus, peach, apricot, pear and rose. The renowned perfume of the Guerlain range of perfumes is based on the essence of this rose.

On the Isle of Lewis, we experienced the Stones of Callanish. Thirteen standing stones form a circle about 13 m in diameter, with a long avenue of stones to the north, and shorter stone rows to the east, south, and west. The site is thought to have been constructed about 5000 years ago. The light on this photo emphasized the shadows, shapes, and textures of the stones.
Most of us have experienced a great loss and for some of us the change of season or a holiday, always makes us remember.
Humble dazzle of autumn;
These leaves on the ground --
Each one a page in the book,
A poem that says:
I lived, I was a small part
of the whole story--
this is my song,
THIS IS MY GLORY.

THE SWEETEST TABOO - SADE
FEAR/TEMOR
Standing by and letting me float free
you stand so close; I can taste your breath
my heart is racing, but my soul is slow
I am running to nowhere until I hit the wall
You play to me late into the night
you listen to me singing all day long
we hold each other so distantly
both scared to run to where we can't hide
let me closer into your arms
wrap me with love and tender kisses
walk out with me; tell me all you know
and dance me to the golden hour
I don't think it at all possible
to fall in love and remain as friends
so I let you walk alone on your reconfigured journey
it's the only way this will always end
I can write and re-write every tiny detail
but it will always play out just like this
we had a good run for all this time
but it could never be ended so simply with a lover's kiss
So you walk off like a cowboy into the sunset
and I'll drive alone along parallel lines
you take the right road, it's the right road for you
and I'll take what's left of the setting sun
The power lines above us are filled with energy
I can feel the tingling in my head
but they can't raise the flatness all around us
or erase the memories of the things we said
Fear is something that I learned from the age of seven,
do you remember that day, the day I drowned
I knew then what I'll always know
when something's lost, it can never be re-found
What you've got to do is create
your own sweet reality within your pure but burgeoning mind
nothing and no-one can take this from you
so you learn to be cruel just to be kind
You'll be ok; I know you'll make it
you're not so lost you can't be found
but what love has taught me; I know that life has brought me
the imagination and strength to stand my ground

I experienced a complete morning light transfiguration when stepping out on the veranda of our Icelandic holiday cottage to witness this sunrise last year in December. Getting prepared now to return in February next year to explore even further :)
I was uninspired trying to come up with something interesting for this theme until I looked in my "Measure & Level" drawer and found a couple old rulers that have obviously been around for a while.
The green smear of paint on the top ruler was my grandfather's tool color and the one on the bottom is actually stamped "Made in the U.S.A."-- very uncommon these days.
Anyway, Happy Macro Monday everyone! :)

Sunrise Over Goscar Rock and Tenby, Pembrokeshire
Yesterday's sunrise over Tenby was absolutely stunning. Finally after twelve days on the road, I experienced a bit of colour and what a bit of colour it was too.
The tide was outgoing with left some part of the beach devoid of footprints bar the odd jogger and dog walker. The colours were stunning and built within a few minutes. Tenby is quite an elevated town and this allows for a wonderful position to photograph the harbour and Goscar Rock on the beach.
I used a Kase 10 Stop ND filter to slow the shutter speed down enough to smooth out the water, which on this occasion worked a treat. The clouds were moving very slowly so they appeared not to be been affected from the thirty second exposure time.
I shall return to Tenby in the future and see what other delights await but for now, I am delighted with how this turned out. I hope that you enjoy it too.

Melbourne experienced a colder and wetter than average winter last year, which then became the wettest spring ever recorded. However, summer did eventually arrive, albeit late, with glorious days of sunshine that brought out beautiful blooms on all the flowers. This included my Elina Rose, which is one of the strongest rose bushes in my front garden.
Elina is a very prolific, constantly flowering Hybrid Tea rose bred in Northern Ireland by the Dickson family in 1983. It was released in 1984. Each rich cream coloured flower comprises around 25 petals. Elina’s perfect classic rose shape, long straight stems, mild fragrance and attractive foliage ensures it is a popular cut flower variety and sought after by florists.
Melbourne has experienced a wonderful Indian summer this year, and as a result, not only are the Autumnal colours starting to appear, but there are still plenty of beautiful blooms.
I spotted these "Red Cherry" French Marigolds on a walk. They stood out against their green backdrop with their showy red and orange petals.
Tagetes is a genus of annual or perennial, mostly herbaceous plants in the sunflower family Asteraceae. They are among several groups of plants known in English as marigolds.

Melbourne has experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which is now bleeding well and truly into a wetter and greyer than average spring and summer, however on the rare sunny days we are currently getting, the showing of flowers and blossoms is beautiful.
This includes my "Nahema" rose in my rear garden which grows by my back terrace. My garden is quite shady, but it does live in a spot where it gets afternoon sun. We have had a few sunny and warm days the last week or so, so it has finally started blooming! This is my first flower for summer!

Death Valley is best experienced in the morning and during Winter.
At this time of year, you are alone and there are massive weather fronts that travel over the valley. The desert pools with water and the sky's are full of attitude.
This image is an exposure blend from the Salt Flats with its huge octagon shapes. It's a short hike from the roadside and the playground begins.

Experienced some moments of disassociation the other morning as I ventured out into a thick layer of ground fog. The fog created a weird mental disconnect as the ordinary landscape was rendered as a monochromatic otherworld. This alone was more than plenty for my creative mind to act upon. But as I lingered, I found the brightening sky to the east particularly fascinating. I tend to be a creature of the night and my time here (and in general) is usually the later part of day and evening, sometime even past sunset. My entire psyche revolves around sunset and seeing (and composing photos) with light emanating from the western sky. My small world looks completely different during those rare occasions when I am out shooting in the early morning. Invigorating to see the visual tables turned in this manner and sense that I am exploring familiar ground for the first time. I invariably find myself shooting from angles that make absolutely no sense at other times of day. Here I love the layering effect of diminishing clarity as the landscape is enveloped by fog as it recedes from the lens. In my mind, nothing exists beyond what I can see. In these moments my tiny universe shrinks even further. Very odd to feel such confinement when standing outdoors in an open space; a rich visual and visceral dichotomy.
We experienced a lot of rain and cloudy weather while staying in Page, Arizona. The back country roads we wanted to travel were largely inaccessible. Thus we visited Horseshoe Bend several times because we could travel there on paved roads. The 1,000 feet deep canyon is amazing. While we did see the sun burst through storm clouds during our stay, I confess it wasn't at the time of visiting Horseshoe Bend. But the magic of Photoshop helped me get the sky I wanted!
Happy Slider Sunday!

When we visited the Grand Canyon earlier this year, we experienced a couple snow storms. The canyon rim was a bit treacherous at times but it was still beautiful.
We just experienced yet another reversal in the mild spring weather pattern here. A warm and dry phase quite rudely shoved aside by a cold and wet one. Frustrating to adapt to high temperatures in the mid-40s after experiencing the mid-80s. Still the change of seasons presents dynamic visuals that are greatly enhanced by the weather. Such was the scene here amid an expansive field of vibrant dandelions beneath a dark and brooding sky. I love the luminescent quality of flowers on overcast days. Even the grass seems full of vigor now that it is emerging from the dreary phase of winter. Viewed from a distance, the individual dandelions meld into a monolithic sea of yellow. Making my way into the meadow created a feeling of immersion into springtime. The vastness of the scene seemed best conveyed by a closeup view of a single dandelion. I was struck by the way the petals seemed to burst out like a miniature fireworks display of spring color.
Completely different conditions experienced this Friday morning at Kinclaven than the misty ones I got the previous Friday morning. I had to use the trees to control the light and minimise flare. Quite a good exercise in trying to control light and shadow!
Again it had been overcast and grey up to about 15 mins before I took this and suddenly with a gap in the clouds the mood of the wood changed... the sun injected energy and in my head I kept hearing the Beatles song... Here comes the sun!
This is a view of the Seattle skyline after a series of storms fiercely roiled above the city off and on throughout the day.
Seattle, in Spring, is one of those cities when almost every type of weather imaginable is listed -- and SERVED -- on the menu from hour to hour, or every 30 minutes. Take a sip of your drink as I set the scene for you.
You are figuratively sitting at the table, wholeheartedly curious to see what will be featured in the next course because Chef Mother Nature is bringing out her very best today: high winds and drizzle, some "shy-and-goodbye" sunshine, a feast of tempest teasers, more "peek-a-boo" sunshine, a feisty storm and sun combo with a side of rainbow delight, etc. Sometimes you want your taste buds to get accustomed to the new flavors, but often, you don't have time because the next meal has just been prepared for your consumption. The Chef does not care if you haven't had time to acclimate. This is her show.
You get the picture...well, you literally are about to now!
After all the different meals, you are stuffed. However, though your hunger has been overwhelmingly satiated, and your palate has experienced a multitude of spices and seasonings, you know you need to end the meal with an appetizing, gooey, decadent dessert. (Plus, you know it's coming after that fiesta of diverse foods). On this day, we were treated to an intriguing mix of orange and peach skies with smooth breezes above the bay to close the day. Scrumptious, sweet, and delicious, yes?
Alas, I hope you enjoyed our dessert. I know I did.
