When I came home,after having enjoyed one of the most beautiful mornings this year, and went to the kitchen to make me a nice cup of coffee I saw this green visitor in the back of my garden. Turns out he had two friends with him. Young ones I think

Following the cut through the sand hills made by the Middle Loup River, westbound empties wait for permission on to Alliance. The train is stopped at Seneca, NE and the Stable Productions Exotic Animal Ranch is in the background. Home to zebras, water buffalo, elk, reindeer and other exotics, the only thing from out-of-town I caught in the frame was a Kansas City Southern SD70ACe.

I reprocessed this image which I took back in 2007 in Zwolle, The Netherlands. I took this photo in front of 'De Spiegel' after a charity run with about 40 exotics.

Taken at a street party last Saturday night. The file was an almost 200 MB TIFF but Flickr have shrunk it. I'm experimenting with Nikon Capture software for converting RAW files just to see if I can escape my Photoshop CC subscription :)

They were moving quite fast in failing light but I don't mind a bit of movement. I reduced the movement selecting just her face in post.

This Amaryllis is quite different! It has several blossoms that open all at once. We didn't like it at first but it has grown on us. It certainly is bold!

It is a "named variety" called Exotic Peacock.

“Ice & Snow World” across the Song Hua River is Part of the Harbin Ice Lantern Festival, at Night all Sculptures are colourful lighted with LED. Over a 100.000 Tones of Ice Blocks cut from the Song Hua River are used for the Festival Sculptors & Carvings from January till End of February, it is one of the largest of its kind & most interesting one in the World.

It was said that some Fishermen made rough & simple Ice-Lanterns of ice just for lighting, with the Time passed, Ice-Lanterns embodied their Cultural Features & artistic Fascination gradually. The making of Ice-Lanterns & Ice Sculptures started in the 1960s.

Harbin is an interesting Chinese City in the Heilongjiang Province Northwest of China & is strongly influenced by Russian Citizen which first immigrated to Harbin a 120 Years ago.

Harbin was the birthplace of Jin (1115-1234) & Qing (1644-1911) Dynasties, the latter of which had a very considerable influence on modern Chinese history. At the end of the 19th century, Russia built the terminus of the Middle East Railway here. Later, more than 160,000 foreigners from 33 countries migrated to Harbin, promoting the development of a capitalist economy in the city. The economy & culture of Harbin achieved unprecedented prosperity at that time & the city gradually grew into a famous international commercial port. Assimilating external culture, Harbin created its unique & exotic cityscape. The majestic St. Sofia Orthodox Church & Zhongyang Dajie each built in a European style have the effect of bringing you into an 'eastern Moscow'. Even though you are sure to be attracted by various exotic buildings, the Dragon Tower which embodies the wisdom of the Chinese people is a must on your journey.

I love the details around the eyes of many exotic birds, but especially of the Green-winged Macaw

I remember a few years back when I had seen a bunch of photos of these beautiful spiders, but never an actual one. I thought they must be some exotic species from another country. Then I read that they were around, but found that hard to believe. After all, I've been poking around in nature taking pictures of all kinds of arthropods for YEARS, but had never come across one.

And then they started showing up right in my own yard. One, then another, and then more. Now I find them at every size - tiny to adult - and almost all through the year. Occasionally one will turn up inside the house.

Yet I still find them special. So bright and sleek! This lovely lady volunteered herself for a photoshoot, appearing right on my door. I obliged, and now you get to admire her with me.

Same bamboo lemur from two weeks ago sitting lower in the tree and eating some stems and leaves.

The bamboo or gentle lemurs are the lemurs in genus Hapalemur. These medium-sized primates live exclusively on Madagascar. The greater bamboo lemur, formerly known as Hapalemur simus, was considered part of this genus, but is now classified as belonging to the genus Prolemur.

The bamboo lemurs are characterized by a grey-brown fur, which varies by species. Their muzzles are short and their ears are round and hairy. Lengths vary from 26 to 46 cm, with tails just as long or longer, and they weigh up to 2.5 kg.

Bamboo lemurs prefer damp forests where bamboo grows. Although they can be active any time of the day, they are often active just after dawn. Though primarily arboreal, they sometimes come down to the ground. The Lac Alaotra gentle lemur or bandro (Hapalemur alaotrensis), which lives in the reed beds of Lac Alaotra, spends much of its time in water and can swim well, unlike other lemur species, which only venture to water to drink.

The lesser gentle lemurs live together in groups of three to five animals, which probably represent families composed of a male, one or two females, and their offspring. They communicate with a variety of sounds.

They are called bamboo lemurs because they almost exclusively eat bamboo. Their life expectancy is up to 12 years. – Wikipedia

Following the recent Kenya Orchid Show in Nairobi, this is a Paphopedium hirsutissimum also photographed at the exhibition last weekend.

China, Harbin, Song Hua Jiang Gonglu Bridge, or Songhua River Highway Bridge & National Street crossing the Songhua River from Harbin to the Sun Island & ahead. The tower is one of the three identical towers on both sides & centre with spiral staircases for pedestrians connected to the top of the slight over 2 km long bridge.

This bridge is leading directly to the "Ice & Snow Festival" & further to the Siberian Tiger research. centre

Not only for its special position, but also as the centre of Heilongjiang's political, economic, educational & cultural life, Harbin is described as the pearl beneath the swan's neck. Lying on the east of the Songnen Plain, what is more, Harbin plays a vital role in communications between South & North Asia as well the regions of Europe & the Pacific Ocean.

Besides these rich cultural heritages, Harbin is favoured with beautiful natural scenery. Based on meandering Song Hua River & subject to severe low temperatures in winter, down to -30°C, when I took this Pictures the Temperature varied between -20°C & -26°C but dry air, Harbin boasts a unique ice & snow culture. So, Harbin is also called the "Ice City".

The impressive "Ice & Snow Festival" is the greatest & unusual one in the world, therefor Harbin is also called the "Ice City".

As well the large Siberian Tiger & white tigers research centre, with about 500 tigers & a few other species, does an important work to prevent this species from extinction. The Research centre can be visited, tours in small a bus are available, passing through wide natural, separated, sections, however the focus point is to save the tigers.

My friend lisa has the greatest collection of exotic orchids. Recently when we went to their house for dinner I saw this beautiful lady slipper orchid blooming in her kitchen. I told her I just had to take a photo of it. Well, all I had on me was a can of mints...

sorry about the scan lines. Just too tired to re-scan. I kinda like the light leak with the color of the orchid though.
