CLONELY is an adventure in existential sci-fi crisis. A blend of bullsh*t arthouse theatre with the best of sci-fi cinema, but on stage and with DIY props. Expect lo-fi aesthetics, an awkward five minute docking scene, and long monologues about how dark and bleak space life is. Are you scared of dying aclone?

Progetto Arcevia 2.0/12
In 1972, Italo Bartoletti initiated Progetto Arcevia, a vision of an existential community which simultaneously enriched the local community of Palazzo d’Arcevia (Italy) while at the same time providing a site for creatives – artists, philosophers, architects – to come together and collaborate.
40 years later, Bartoletti’s vision has been embraced by a group of young London-based designers, Unit +. In September 2012, five members of Unit + journeyed to Riserva Privata San Settimio, the very site that Bartoletti first cultivated for Progetto Arcevia, and which is still owned by his family today. Using experiential and live mapping techniques across a range of different media (conceptual documentaries, sketches, models and a fairy tale inspired comic book), Unit + explored, documented and analysed their impressions of the site.
Through their dynamic engagement with all aspects of the Riserva, they experimented with colour-coded navigation systems, a proposal for a ‘floating’ meditation room and a towering sundial. Through the support and enthusiasm of Bartoletti’s family and the Riserva, Unit + will return in Spring 2013 to initiate these projects.
Crucial to Progetto Arcevia 2.0/12 is the fact that the fundamental ideals remain the same; Unit + are committed to operating as “a thought factory and creativity lab”, a team that values collaboration and cooperation. Their work at the Riserva in 2013 represents not only a continuation of one man’s vision, but the revitalisation of concepts that are intrinsic to collaborative design.

How existential can you get?

Blaise Pascal wrote, “Man is but a reed, the most feeble thing in nature, but he is a thinking reed. The entire universe need not arm itself to crush him. A vapour, a drop of water, suffices to kill him. But if the universe were to crush him, man would still be more noble than that which killed him, because he knows that he dies and the advantage which the universe has over him; the universe knows nothing of this.”
The phrase 'Nothing Like It Exists' seems to suggest the advertised apartments simply have not been created, period (which isn't true -- they're located on the block preceding where this sign is stationed) not that they are exclusive to Pentagon City. Copywriters should really get hip to this stuff. Otherwise it just makes me want to quote Sartre and spout things like 'being and nothingness...your apartment in Pentagon City -- it either exists, or it doesn't!'

If one were a door, I suppose it would be poignant — existentially poignant, in fact — to ponder the fact that there no longer exist door frames which fit these six doors. They were each a part of my house; the shape of my house changed at the hands of a small bevy of contractors; and, as a result ,these doors, some of which stood faithfully in place for seventy and eighty years, no longer have any place that fits them. The new doorways come in standard sizes.
I am planning to offer the doors on Freecycle, but I suppose I should wait until tomorrow in case any Flickr contacts know someone interested. Two or three of the doors are wonderful old heart-pine, six-panel doors that appear to have been deeply stained wood before being later painted (several times!) as the Craftsman look went out of style.
