Come for the music, stay for the existential crisis.
"As irreverent as it is poignant" (Australian Arts Review), this classical cello recital plays out like a piece of performance art run by a masterly jester blurring artistry, humanity, and insanity. Featuring Suite Number One in G Major by JS Bach and personal comedic pieces crafted in Idiot classes, Karen fuses in a healthy dose of pathos tackling identity, expectations, and success through the eyes of a fool.

Bob Aul overcomes the existential dread of another day spent deciphering the mysteries of climate changes on the Antarctic ice core through repeated listenings to Guy Mark’s “Loving You Has Made me Bananas.”

Minor White was arguably the best teacher I ever had. He was a very gentle, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual person. His photos showed simple things in existential depth. He opened my eyes to the magic of light and the fascination of texture as representations of inner images. I will always honor him as a mandarin of photography as an art. He helped me trust the inner beauty of almost any - seemingly deliberate - subject. He recommended Zen to me and encouraged me in my first insecure steps to become acquainted with the wisdom of the East. Listen to that inner truth. Strive to be sincere. Become one with your subject. Those were his teachings in a nutshell.

A clever article, interesting reading. But I doubt the author ever was a photographer himself or knew Minor White personally well. When Minor taught at MIT he was not emulating Stieglitz or Weston - and failing in that because of his sexuality. He rather had his own philosophy, maybe eclectically drawn from different sources, nevertheless solid, convincing, and inspiring: aperture.org/blog/minorwhite218/
Good interview, including some beautiful examples of Minor's photography. In my opinion more relaxed and closer to "the real Minor": aperture.org/blog/minor-white-manifestations-spirit-conve...

Being held in a fun version of The Sleeper vision of the future. I like it, but where's Rags? Pass the Orb on the left hand side.
The Black Rail at the Cape May Migratory Bird Refuge (aka the South Cape May Meadows) forges on, undaunted by the impending lack of cover. A typical rail attitude, sometimes they act like no one can see them even up close and in the open. This rail showed very little concern over the group of photographers and birders not ten feet away.

We once knew Jim Carrey as the court jester of Hollywood, his manic energy and inimitable characters serving as a visual manifestation of the most hyperactive of imaginations.
The Seventh Seal (Swedish: Det sjunde inseglet) is an existential 1957 Swedish film directed by Ingmar Bergman about the journey of a medieval knight (Max von Sydow) across a plague-ridden landscape, and a monumental game of chess between himself and the personification of Death, who has come to take his life. The film is spoken in Swedish, and is shown with subtitles in local languages (quotations below are from English subtitles). The film has been regarded since its release as a masterpiece of cinematography.[1]
The title refers to a passage about the end of the world from the Book of Revelation, used both at the very start of the film, and again towards the end, beginning with the words "And when the Lamb had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour" (Revelation 8:1). Bergman developed the film from his own play Wood Painting.
