Malachi Farrell 'The Dark Side of Things' including 'La Gégène' and 'Nature morte' 2007-2010, Musée d'art contemporain Val-de-Marne, MAC / VAL, (Museum of Contemporary Art), Paris

'Nature morte' refers to the execution of the Rosenbergs in 1953. 'La Gégène' refers to the torture by electricity, practiced by the French on its prisoners in Indochine.

An execution at the Tower of London and the same location today (2011)

Prisoners for execution would walk into the first room in the top left and be escorted to the third room to the right. A "doctor" would await the man and ask him to undress and remove any valuables for a physical. The doctor would then escort the man to the middle, rectangular room below the two small rooms above. The prisoner was told to stand against the wall for a height measurement. Behind the wall, another prisoner with a handgun waited for the small hole he was looking at to go from light to darkness. Once it did, he pulled the trigger. Soldiers would take his body to the large, square room to the right and remove any valuables from his body not previously removed (gold teeth, watches). Once complete, the soldiers would take the body to the crematorium in the room below.

The last execution was in 1961

"Mr. Tom T. Gobble, it is my pleasure to inform you that a last minute phone call from the Governor of the State of Alabama has granted you a permanent stay of execution..."

LOL...actually this guy was never subject to becoming Thanksgiving Dinner...he and several other turkeys are the beloved pets of my friends Gladys and David and they would never let any harm come to them...they are part of their family! Many thanks to them for giving me the opportunity to have this fine fellow added to my photostream for Thanksgiving! : ) I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with them this afternoon!

Have a Large size helping of this guy if you will (plenty of detail)...and please pass the sweet potato casserole!!! ; )

If you are like so many who will be leaving tomorrow to visit far away family and friends for the holiday, I wish you safe travel and a wonderful, warm, and joyous Thanksgiving!!! : )

Simon turned to face them. They saw what he had just did. There was no getting around it.

Brandie returning the Favour

The art community in Second Life is a varied one. Fine art, outsider art, underground art, performance art and music are all mixed in with the technical aspects of programming and scripting.

Second Life is one of the first places to combine right and left brain thinkers into one fantastic execution of art and builds in a virtual reality.

The sophistication of the artist is apparent at several places on the SL grid. There are many places that rival my favorites, but these are my personal choices based on my reaction or how long it stayed with me.

The Apollo sim will always be my very favorite place, but here are two that just captured my head and heart. La Reve and pteron are included on my "to die for" list and of course, The A List!

Both are fantastic. Both are fabulously done with a flair that most of us who build, will never achieve. I also included a few stand-outs from Esperance, Nebulous's ArtHole installation, and also, the conceptual Muzik Haus.

Muzik Haus is included, not because of the build itself. That part is simple, but the concept itself is one that stays with me. Mr Widget is the dj and his party making mash-ups create a total ambiance that drives the performance itself.

He is my current favorite dj. He is a mash-up king. And he shares his knowledge with us so generously.

All these places and all these people... standing before you and your art, sometimes overwhelms me to a point of tears. The emotional connection I feel when I explore or listen is the reason why I believe that art equals life. For without art... life is a dreary place and that is no life for anyone.

The last public hanging in Canada.

The leaders of the 1916 uprising were executed here, including one who was too sick to stand and was tied to a chair and shot. This brutality had the effect of turning the previously-indifferent populace against the British.

I went a little overboard on carving away the teeth but, considering that I've never used this technique, I'm fairly pleased with the result.
