The Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian in Alberobello was built in 1885. The temple is built in the neoclassical style, large stairs lead to the entrance. The facade with two towers is decorated with Corinthian columns. The main altar contains the relics of Saints Cosmas and Damian, patrons of Alberobello. They were executed during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian, they are worshiped by both Catholics and Orthodox Christians.

The Monument aux Girondins is a dramatic fountain in Bordeaux commemorating the Girondists of the French Revolution.
The Girondists were originally part of France’s Legislative Assembly, becoming one of the groups which supported the French Revolution as it began. In fact, they were one of the legislature’s most militant sections.
However, in October 1793, the Girondists were executed under the orders of one of the leaders of the Revolution, Maximilien Robespierre, after they began opposing the movement.
Whitmore also commissioned the gardener and landscape designer William Emes to produce a scheme for the grounds. Emes came up with a formal plan but it was never executed. Instead, Whitmore left his wife, Frances Lister, and his own gardener, Walter Wood, to develop the grounds. Wood had previously worked on a Picturesque-style garden for the poet William Shenstone at The Leasowes, near Halesowen, then also part of the county of Shropshire. Carefully controlling the Quatt Brook, a small tributary of the Severn to the south of the hall, he now reshaped its course through the Dingle, a small, wooded valley, which was itself artfully quarried and sculpted. His small cliffs, waterfalls and rustic bridges created a framework for the winding paths and seating areas, laid out by Frances. It is unclear which Dingle came first, but it is likely there were cross-influences with that at Badger, Shropshire, where Emes certainly was involved in the design, and where the squire, Isaac Hawkins Browne was an associate of Whitmore

Copán is an archaeological site of the Maya civilization located in the Copán Department of western Honduras, not far from the border with Guatemala. It was the capital city of a major Classic period kingdom from the 5th to 9th centuries AD. The city was located in the extreme southeast of the Mesoamerican cultural region, on the frontier with the Isthmo-Colombian cultural region, and was almost surrounded by non-Maya peoples. In this fertile valley now lies a city of about 3000, a small airport, and a winding road.
Copán was occupied for more than two thousand years, from the Early Preclassic period right through to the Postclassic. The city developed a distinctive sculptural style within the tradition of the lowland Maya, perhaps to emphasize the Maya ethnicity of the city's rulers.
The city has a historical record that spans the greater part of the Classic period and has been reconstructed in detail by archaeologists and epigraphers. Copán was a powerful city ruling a vast kingdom within the southern Maya area. The city suffered a major political disaster in AD 738 when Uaxaclajuun Ub'aah K'awiil, one of the greatest kings in Copán's dynastic history, was captured and executed by his former vassal, the king of Quiriguá. This unexpected defeat resulted in a 17-year hiatus at the city, during which time Copán may have been subject to Quiriguá in a reversal of fortunes.
A significant portion of the eastern side of the acropolis has been eroded away by the Copán River, although the river has since been diverted in order to protect the site from further damage.

Jan Hus was a Czech church reformer executed in 1415. His teachings had a profound influence on the history of the Czech nation.
Jan Hus’s contribution to the development of the Czech literary language was the introduction of diacritical marks, such as: č, š, ř, ž, á, í, é. The purpose of this innovation was representing each sound by only one symbol and eleminating digraphs (sounds represented by two letters).
The inscription on the monument reads “Milujte se, pravdy každému přejte”, which means more or less: “Love one another, wish the truth to everyone”. This is a shortened version of a quote from one of Hus’s letters from prison. The day of his execution, July 6th, is a public holiday in Czechia (Jan Hus Day).
Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate is a Roman Catholic minor basilica and parish church located in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. A Gothic Revival style building designed by Joseph Connolly. It is considered Connolly's best work.[2] To serve a Roman Catholic parish of predominantly German settlers the church was built between 1875 and 1883. The monumental church contains decorative carving and stained glass executed by skilled craftsmen.
The church was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1990.[Pope Francis designated the church a basilica on 8 December 2014

This is probably my personal favourite shot taken on my recent trip to the Faroe Islands. Since the country remains largely unexplored I didn't have much prior knowledge regarding the landscape and photographic locations, excepting a few popular spots, so much of my photography was completely spontaneous.
This unexpected location literally took my breath away a soon as I stumbled upon it. I decided to go for an exploration of the northern isles by car since it was a pretty wet and windy day, so the island of Kunoy was one of those island destinations. This is the most mountainous island of all in the Faroes, with six mountains rising higher than 800 meters.
The nakesake village, pictured here, is the oldest settlement on the island. This location literally blew my breath away. I didn't expect it to be so spectacular, with the spate river Myllá thundering between the quaint Faroese houses, all nestled beneath an arena of moody and majestic mountains.
It was a pretty difficult image to execute as it was relentlessly raining, but I managed to capture a couple of shots whilst keeping the lens dry.
I appreciate that this was selected for Explore but as I made clear it is a digital creation. I took the original photo of the Lily in my garden but the hummingbird was added digitally as an enhancement. It is never my intention to deceive anyone on Flickr. Thank you for your comments. They are much appreciated!
A stunning example of a 1959 Jaguar XK150 S 3.4 Drop Head Coupé. Finished in blue with red hide and black hood, this example is one of only 67 of its kind. This car was delivered new to its first owner in California, then later formed part of an impressive private collection in Holland, where it remained for some years before being subject to a well executed restoration. 316XVK was seen at the Classic Motor Hub.
Chief Leatherlips monument at Scioto Park in Dublin, Ohio, in a Columbus suburb.
Leatherlips (1732–1810) was a Wyandot Native American leader.
The sculpture, 12 feet (3.67 m) high portrait, was installed in Scioto Park in 1990. With hair blown back, Chief Leatherlips looks out over west towards the Scioto River, what was once Wyandot land. The head is a composite structure of various sizes of native limestone stacked and mortared.
Chief Leatherlips’ last hunting camp is said to have been located 2 miles north of Historic Dublin along the banks of the Scioto River near the location of the present-day Scioto Park.
In 1810, the Chief was executed by tomahawk on the orders of his brother, Roundhead, for being too friendly with the white settlers.
Rakan statues at the Rokkaku-dō (Chōhō-ji) Temple in central Kyoto. Rakan are carved figures of monks, often executed with great individuality.
According to legend, Rokkaku-dō (official name Chōhō-ji) was founded in the 6th century CE, and it is famous as the birthplace of ikebana in Japan in the 15th century.
In 1990, Archaeological Survey of India discovered a sunken apsidal stepped well along with few sculptures inside it. This stepped well is located immediately to the north of the Shore Temple, its south edge abutting the northern wall of the Shore Temple. On the extreme south of this newly discovered shrine is placed a monolith statue of Varaha (Boar)in its zoomorphic form. This image is carved in round from a single boulder. The statue was found severely damaged, however, with efforts from ASI restorers, we now see this image in its near original glory. The other element of this stepped well is a slender cylindrical shrine constructed partly in rock and partly in stone. Beyond this cylindrical shrine, further northward, is a circular cistern or mini-well. This is cut downwards with a circular rim-like stone placed at the ground level.
ASI report mentions that this well provides potable water though situated near the ocean. Though Rabe accepts these sockets for the capstones of a well, however, he suggests that these might be constructed to hold the ‘pillar of victory’ taken by Narasimhavarman I from Vatapi (Badami) which probably was installed here.

The Varaha sculpture is carved out of the mother rock like the three other animal sculptures in the Five Rathas nearby. It has four birudas (titles) of Rajasimha Pallava, some of his favorites, inscribed upon the base, in Sanskrit in the Pallava Grantha script. The birudas on the side are “Sri RajasimhaH” “Sri RanajayaH” and “Sri BharaH”. The biruda on the rear, under the varaha’s tail, is “Sri Citra KaarmukaH”. Between the legs of the boar on both the and under its tail, leaves of acquatic plants are sculpted. These are similar to those at the base of the Varaha and Gajalakshmi panels in the Varaha Mandapam. These indicate that the boar which represents Vishnu, is diving under water, not merely digging.
However, how to explain the engraved titles of Rajasimha, as the Chalukyan attacked the Pallava kingdom before the reign of Rajasimha. To explain it, Rabe tells that it was most possible that like other monoliths, this Varaha was also executed during the period of Narasimhavarman I(630–668 AD). Therefore, when the Chalukyas attacked the Pallavas, during the reign of Narasimhavarman I and Parameshvaravarman I, this monolith was present in the temple complex. As the Varaha was destroyed before the reign of Rajasimha (695 to 722 AD), it was Rajasimha who restored it and that’s how we find his titles engraved on it. (Above description source Internet). Amritsar (India) - In June 1984, the Golden Temple was the scene of a massacre, of which the Shiks were the victims. Occupied by a group of Sikh separatists under the orders of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, after the failure of negotiations with the Indian Federation, the attack was ordered by the Prime Minister of the time: Indira Gandhi.
At the end of the battle, 493 mutineers were killed, including 100 women and 75 children. To which must be added the 86 wounded who were not executed. The Indian military meanwhile, would have lost 334 men (86 dead and 248 wounded).
The Golden Temple, stained with the blood of the insurgents and desecrated by the boots of the assailants, is considered an irreparable insult by the Sikh extremists. I had flight credits to use by the end of the year, so I got in touch with a few friends and hit Boston for 48(ish) hours.
The plan was to roam around and find a few photo-ops, then meet a friend for dinner, and then do it again the next day. Different friends...different photo ops. Simple enough.
Right after landing & checking into my Seaport area hotel, I managed to grab a bit of the fading afternoon light. I didn't get out again after dinner, but technically I was executing the plan. 😎

During the French Revolution the new revolutionary government erected the guillotine in the square, and it was here that King Louis XVI was executed on 21 January 1793. In 1795, under the Directory, the square was renamed from Place Louis XV to Place de la Concorde as a gesture of reconciliation after the turmoil of the French Revolution. After the Bourbon Restoration of 1814, the name was changed back to Place Louis XV, and in 1826 the square was renamed Place Louis XVI. After the July Revolution of 1830 the name was returned to Place de la Concorde and has remained since.

A part of Soll LeWit's Wall Drawing number 373: Lines in Four Directions (equal spacing on an unequal wall) covers the iconic grand staircase of The Kunstmuseum Den Haag (Formerly the Gemeente museum (Municipal Art museum, (1935 H.P. Berlage).

Sol LeWitt (1928-2007) is one of the founders of conceptual art and American Minimal Art. Minimal art aims to establish a relationship with the immediate environment using the simplest possible means. In doing so, the artist prefers to use simple, possibly found materials. LeWitt's wall drawings and sculptures are world-famous, as is his radical view that an idea for a work of art is more important than its execution. For example, he designs his wall drawings himself but has them executed by a team of assistants. In the 1960s, this conceptual thinking was a direct break with the past and an attack on the age-old principle of the artist as an individual genius.
In 1983, the museum acquired Wall drawing no. 373 by LeWitt. The drawing consists of parallel black and grey stripes. The diagonal and vertical lines run in four different directions and emphasize the height of the staircase in the Berlage building. In the spirit of conceptual art, LeWitt draws a diagram with instructions and leaves the execution to his assistants. Not the artist but his team travels to the destination to create the wall drawing: comparable to an architect who never actually executes a building himself. LeWitt created the design after receiving the technical specifications of the wall where his artwork was to be placed, along with photos and floor plans. He relies entirely on his team for the execution.
The artist also makes a certificate for the buyer of the work in which he records the idea for the drawing. This makes it possible to re-execute the drawing later. If the wall drawing itself disappears, for example, through overpainting, the artwork still exists as an idea on paper. This wall drawing was restored in 2000 after it had been painted over during the renovation of the building. In gratitude for the restoration, the artist donated a new series of wall drawings to the museum.
Sol LeWitt and the Kunstmuseum have a long history together. In 1968, the museum organized the first Minimal Art exhibition in Europe. Two years later, LeWitt's first solo museum exhibition in Europe followed. Since then, various works by the artist have been added to the museum collection. Examples include the five geometric shapes on the façade of KM21 and the murals in the hall of the Kunstmuseum.

The Parish Church of Holy Trinity, Penn Street, is situated in a hollow on the fringe of Penn Wood. It was built in 1849 by the first Earl Howe to the design of the Architect Benjamin Ferrey, and is tastefully executed in flint and stone. A simple cruciform building after the decorated style, it comprises a nave, South Porch, North and South Transepts, Chancel and a Priest’s Vestry on the north side of the Chancel. An octagonal tower rises above the Transept crossing, complete with shingle covered spire, from which the rain water is thrown by means of eight gargoyles. There are 300 sittings.
The church was built as a Chapel-of-Ease to Holy Trinity Church, Penn, but on 11th January 1850 a new ecclesiastical parish was formed out of the ecclesiastical parishes of Penn and Little Missenden, containing the villages of Penn Street, Holmer Green Beamond End, Mop End and part of Winchmore Hill. Christ Church, Holmer Green, was built as a daughter Church in 1894.
This palace, which means ‘Stone House’, contains Khiva’s most sumptuous interior decoration, dense with blue ceramic tiles, carved wooden pillars and elaborate ghanch. Built by Allakuli Khan between 1832 and 1841 as a more splendid alternative to the Kuhna Ark, it’s said to have more than 150 rooms off nine courtyards, with high ceilings designed to catch the slightest desert breeze. Allakuli was a man in a hurry – the Tosh-Hovli’s first architect was executed for failing to complete the job in two years.

The Midland Camera club planned and executed a wonderful trip to the Jordan Valley and Leelanau peninsula in pursuit of Fall colors, landscapes, farms, sand dunes, Lake Michigan. lighthouses, and a vast assortment of interesting subjects to photograph. A snowboarder executed a nice jump but then crashed into the deep snow. The hill in the foreground blocks the view of the man's torso, giving the illusion that he is buried under the deep snow.
The official snowfall for the weekend was 54 inches!

Phenomenal people don't talk, they execute ideas
American wigeon are such fun birds to photograph ... they're quite beautiful and generally pretty active as they dabble for food, which is generally lots of plant matter. They possess a short bill which allows them to efficiently pluck the vegetation in search of the good stuff, while also allowing them to discard easily what they don't want. This female mama wigeon was taking a break from her babies and thus had a great flappy going on as it arose from the water surface with a strong and purposeful flap and stretch forward of its wings, followed by a back flap ... forward and backward flaps repeated for quite some time before she settled back into position. I just love seeing those feathers like that. After some time her young joined her in the lake. Such is the life. :-)

Royalist / monarchist or not the talent executed in this arts and crafts piece is undisputed. These knitted pieces have been popping up on letterboxes in my area. The designs vary but this piece seems to have the edge on that of others created. This letterbox is situated just outside the boundary to my property and moments apart cars are pulling up to take pictures of it. Kudos to the three ladies I saw dressing the letterbox with this delightful creation.

1967 Cadillac | Electric Factory display vehicle.
This car was painted for a 2023 exhibition at Drexel University, Electrified: 50 Years of Electric Factory, in the style of the psychedelically-decorated 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville limousine owned by the original Electric Factory, on Arch Street, Philadelphia, which the Grateful Dead once drove. This version has images on the hood inspired from the six-string bass guitar played by Jack Bruce during his Cream years, which had been painted in London in 1967 by The Fool Collective, who also worked closely with the Beatles. The guitar, now in the Hard Rock Collection, was included in the Electrified exhibition. The car’s side doors were designed by Benny Jimenez, and the remainder of the painting was executed by other Drexel students, and staff.
Having executed a perfect 'rolling meet' at Bealville the Mojave Sub Dispatcher has kept an eastbound BNSF Z moving up the mountain, while Union Pacific's ZLCLT and its colorful headend consist continues on its quest for Northern California.

The Adoration of the Magi is a painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Filippino Lippi. It is signed and dated at 1496. It is housed in the Uffizi of Florence.
The panel was painted for the Convent of San Donato in Scopeto, in substitution of the one commissioned in 1481 to Leonardo da Vinci, who left it unfinished. In 1529 it was acquired by Cardinal Carlo de' Medici and in 1666 it became part of the Uffizi collection.
Filippino Lippi followed Leonardo's setting, in particular in the central part of the work. Much of its inspiration was clearly derived from Botticelli's Adoration of the Magi, also in the Uffizi: this is evident in the disposition of the characters on the two sides, with the Holy Family portrayed in the centre under. Similarly to Botticelli's work, Filippino also portrayed numerous members of the Medici cadet line, who had adhered to the Savonarolian Republic in the period in which the work was executed. On the left, kneeling and holding an astrolabe, is Pierfrancesco de' Medici, who had died 20 years before. Behind him, standing, are his two sons Giovanni, holding a goblet, and Lorenzo, from whom a page is removing a crown.
The general style is that of Filippino's late career, characterized by a greater care to details and by a nervous rhythm in the forms, influenced by the knowledge of foreign painting schools (as also in the landscape of the background).
The Angel of the North, viewed through a bike rack. Something a bit different, but not perfectly executed. Hence the over processing.
Even as they take the sun, there's never any guarantee a Water Dragon will sit still long enough for a shot to be composed, focused and executed. This was a rare win win, but it was touch and go.

The Midland Camera club planned and executed a wonderful trip to the Jordan Valley and Leelanau peninsula in pursuit of Fall colors, landscapes, farms, sand dunes, Lake Michigan. lighthouses, and a vast assortment of interesting subjects to photograph. The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) occupies a converted factory building complex occupying 13-acres in North Adams, Massachusetts. It is one of the largest centers for contemporary visual art in the United States. The complex was originally built by the Arnold Print Works, which operated on the site from 1860 to 1942. MASS MoCA opened in 1999 with 19 galleries and 100,000 sq ft (9,300 m2) of exhibition space. It is large enough to put on exhibitions in individual buildings for extended periods - a Sol Lewitt building has five stories full of work conceived by him (and executed by others) on display until 2033; another building contains three large-scale installations by Anself Keifer on display until 2028.
