Excessive tweaking in Color Efex, and then a big dollop of de-haze added in Photoshop...Happy Sliders Sunday everyone :-)

In the Pacific Northwest we have an excessive heat warning, and we are suffering through unprecedented temperatures for June. Aargh! my air-conditioning is not scheduled to be installed for another two weeks. Heat records are falling and it's impossible find a cool spot in my house, so, for distraction from my misery, I'm re-processing a photo of my beloved Mr. Purry Furry who has since passed over the Rainbow Bridge at the ripe old age of 20 years. The original image can be found in the album "Mr. Purry Furry and Friends".

Magnificent sunset captured on Siesta Key Beach. And no, this was not overly processed with excessive saturation and vibrance to achieve this effect. It was just that beautiful and I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.

Tootsie Roll Lollipop, Cherry Flavor. UR Amazing!

Following up on the Birthday present I started last year on Facebook, I've shot a new lollipop to give away. Marybeth came home with them from school and this one caught my eye, I really thought the flavor was something new like cotton candy or pink lemonade, I was surprised to find out it was good old cherry!

Last year I struggled like crazy to get the focus stack to work and I've come to the conclusion that the distortion introduced by the Nikon 55mm caused the problem. Further research will be required to determine if the issue was inherent in the lens or the fact that I had reached the limitations of focus stacking with a 55mm lens. I shot this with the Voigtlander 125mm and processed the 54 image stack with Helicon stacking software. OK I admit it, a bit excessive at f/8 but I'm still learning and more layers SHOULD produce a better image. I'm very impressed with the working of the Helicon software (FINALLY) which seemed to work better than my horrible trials I conducted last year. The stack came out just perfect, I'm amazed at the subject edge definition. It's also cool to watch the alignment and stacking take place within the application and displayed on the computer screen.

So, if by chance it's your birthday, I'm ahead of the game - Happy Birthday!

The original image (with green background) was shot with the VOIGTLANDER, 125mm f/2.5 SL, MACRO APO-LANTHAR @ f/8, 54 Layer Focus Stack. Helicon (B,R8,S4).

And Thank You Lenebem-Anna for use of the textures.

In a time of absolutely excessive digitisation and a fight against our own history it would be necessary to stop for a moment a to remember. Where would we stand today, if there were not uncountless people who wrote down their knowledge and their experiences on paper. On what would we built our future ? I have my doubts that some hundret years from now USB sticks, harddrives our clouds

will reach the same importance.

This here, is the oldest paper I own. It belongs to a chant book printed in 1883.

"Controlled burns" are done to remove diseased plants, excessive dry brush that might be tinder for a wildfire, invasive species, or for other control reasons.

Sometimes, they lose "control". A horrible example is a controlled burn in Michigan several years ago, which was done to promote the growth of Jack Pine trees, a necessity to encourage the nesting of endangered Kirtland Warblers. A windstorm spread the fire to the devastation of almost an entire county of Michigan.

This picture shows the product of a controlled burn at Merritt Island NWR. New growth was evident throughout the area, which was probably the desired result, but a very large area was burned off. No one could say if that was the intent.

I've never been one to shy away from a little harmless yet extravagant over-engineering and I was in perfect form the day before I took this photo with a completely excessive amount of work anchoring my tent into the snow with oversized snow pegs and buried blocks of ice which, had given the comedians camping with me plenty to work with.

A few hours after I'd finished work on my aptly labelled 'Fort Knox' we noticed some dark clouds beginning to appear on the horizon. I was so excited but they were quickly dismissed by the others in favour of the forecast which, was still calling for a calm night...

The next morning came and I woke to an aftermath of ripped and wrangled tents from a surprise storm that had kept everyone up frantically trying to save their gear and make it through.

As it would turn out, that was the best nights sleep I'd had in a while and now I was the only one up to enjoy the beautiful sunrise ❄️💨

Floods Before Covid

In 2020 excessive rainfall led to the wettest February since records began, in 1766, in England and Wales, homes and businesses were flooded as rivers burst their banks and breached flood defences. We were fortunate where I live but still ducks swam between these trees normally growing on dry land.

The amount of ginger cat hair I find in and around the hydrangea provides evidence of this love but I doubt that the plant appreciates Linus' affection and I wonder if the pretty flower will survive the excessive attention of my feline gardener on the long run. According to our internal statistics the prospects are rather grim.

To see the rhinos, you need to ride on elephants. It is an experience which is hard to forget. Image in the first comment section.

The Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis), also called the greater one-horned rhinoceros and great Indian rhinoceros, is a rhinoceros native to the Indian subcontinent. It is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, as populations are fragmented and restricted to less than 20,000 km (7,700 sq mi). Moreover, the extent and quality of the rhino's most important habitat, alluvial grassland and riverine forest, is considered to be in decline due to human and livestock encroachment.

The Indian rhinoceros once ranged throughout the entire stretch of the Indo-Gangetic Plain, but excessive hunting and agricultural development reduced their range drastically to 11 sites in northern India and southern Nepal. In the early 1990s, between 1,870 to 1,895 rhinos were estimated to have been alive. In 2015, a total of 3,555 Indian rhinoceros are estimated to live in the wild. – Wikipedia

Yesterday's fantastic clouds continued all the way to sunset.

Decided to take this one to the very edge of being able to look myself in the mirror as the description of the sliders sunday group says. And even then, I'm just peeking around the side of the mirror.

This is a pano created from 8 portrait orientation shots, hand blended in Ps. Each layer had to have its own color balance adjustment layer with lots of sliding. I'm always amazed that even with the camera set on manual everything, how differently the sensor will render hues from one shot to another, moving only millimeters from one to another.

After all that, the layers were merged up and that was copied. I used a technique from a youtube video by Calvin Hollywood to create a more dodge burned look.

(I know, Calvin Hollywood?)

It involves vivid light mode, inverting, blurring, merging down, changing blend modes, copying to accentuate effects. I had to write down the method due to my oh so wonderful memory.

Then into Nik Viveza for spot sliding using control points.

And some isolated dodging, burning, adjustments using luminosity based channels and masks.

And that's how you get to the point where you can look yourself in the mirror after editing, but only with one eye, and that eye squinting in embarrassment.

When things get a tiny out of hand! *giggles

It's been a month since I last posted, though I had been trying to post this one for wks. Last month had been hectic with the rush of tests though at the end it became easier. The weather's unbearably hot here and my body's hating me too, almost like a week that I'm sick. Still everyday goes on just like always, running around attending classes or wards, prepping for tests, or some light studying at excessively hot noons at room. But I'm pretty excited for something new, we're gonna start our autopsy classes this week(although the heat will kill me most probably).

By the way, this was a morning rising sun I casually witnessed one May morning. Not much of nature in it though... but the view was good. You could easily say this sun was gonna kill everything later that day ;)

Life's suddenly been tough since last week though my study burden was lessened as the terms are delayed. Keep me in prayers so I can get through the troubles...

How's summer over there at your place? Hope you're all well alive and happy and having a good time with your family and friends 🌻

PS. have started reading Edgar Allan Poe who is also the writer of the first detective story- The Murder in the Rue Morgue. My first impression was that all my childhood dreams were back, but later turned out actually it's all nightmares!

Excessive heat in Bay Area . Miss the beautiful winter in Norway . Be safe out & enjoy the holiday weekend !! Stay cool . Thank you for stopping by !

The Pont de Normandie is a cable-stayed road bridge that spans the river Seine linking Le Havre to Honfleur in Normandy, northern France. Its total length is 2,143.21 metres (7,032 ft) – 856 metres (2,808 ft) between the two piers. It is also the last bridge to cross the Seine before it empties into the ocean. Despite being a motorway toll bridge, there is a footpath as well as a narrow cycle lane in each direction allowing pedestrians and cyclists to cross the bridge free of charge. The bridge was designed by Michel Virlogeux, and the architect Norman Foster, the general studies were led by Bernard Raspaud from Bouygues, and the works management was shared between G. Barlet and P. Jacquet. The architects were François Doyelle and Charles Lavigne. Construction by Bouygues, Campenon Bernard, Dumez, Monberg & Thorsen, Quillery, Sogea and Spie Batignolles[2] began in 1988 and lasted 7 years. The bridge opened on 20 January 1995. At that time the bridge was both the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world, and had the record for the longest distance between piers for any cable-stayed bridge. It was more than 250 metres (820 ft) longer between piers than the previous record. This record was lost in 1999 to the Tatara Bridge in Japan. Its record for length for a cable-stayed bridge was lost in 2004 to the 2883 meters of the Rio-Antirrio. At the end of construction, the total cost for the bridge, all ancillary structures and finance costs was $465 million and was financed by Natixis. The bridge on its own cost €233 million (US$250 million). The cable-stayed design was chosen because it was both cheaper and more resistant to high winds than a suspension bridge. Shortly after opening, the longest cables exhibited excessive vibrations, so several damping systems were quickly retrofitted.

First of all, sorry for my long absence. Due to the extreme heat that we´re suffering in Madrid and to the excessively late sunsets I haven´t been able to go out from home to take pictures.

As I said before, and as many of you will know, we are experiencing a very long, suffocating and madding heatwave in many parts of Spain, Madrid included.

The majority of the days, the highest temperatures are reaching 102F or 104F (39ºC o 40ºC), with total absence of humidity (I recognize that´s an advantage when it´s so hot) and with lowest about 72F to 77F (entre 22ºC y 25ºC) , or even more.

In my humble opinion, this extreme heat is unbearable and I prefer to stay at home with the air conditioning system that going out and suffer a heat strike or something worse.

Talking about this picture, it was taken at 10:00 pm (fortunately sunsets are happening earlier everyday), but anyway, here you can see the light at that hour. The temperature was 91F (33ºC) with completely calm wind.

As you can see in the picture, some cars are heading towards my workplace, Terminal 4 in Madrid Barajas Airport, these summer days with much air traffic and many operations, as you can imagine.

Here you can see the two main control towers, the nearest in the NET building and the farthest one in the Satellite building or SAT.

I can see this scene everyday during my short drive from home to the airport terminal, and I wanted to share it with you.

I hope you like this picture and I take advantage to wish you a good Summer, or Winter if you´re in the Southern Hemisphere, with a lot of good vibes and pleasing moments.

Happy Sliders Sunday.

I have left the group because I honestly didn’t realise it involved so many people using AI as a large part of their processing.

I don’t personally do much manipulation using AI except for taking down excessive noise in my shots and also for upsizing my photos if I need enough pixels to print well - usually old photos taken by me and processed by me.

It is a preference but not my preference so apologies….

With excessive heat gone, cooler sunny days and cool nights this is a more relaxed season.

With colors in our gardens are fading and some brown tones settling in I still find it peaceful working in the yard. Thanks for viewing my work. Stay safe and remain kind. Don’t forget to wash your hands🙏.

This is the first day my phone hasn't alerted me to excessive heat warnings as soon as I woke up. This past week, not even Mack wanted to go out except between the hours of 1:30AM and about 5AM. So, here's Jimmy trying to make me look bad by posing on an unmade bed.

For my Happy Caturday friends - thank you for welcoming my mom's new kitten Rena and Pat and Leslie, I am so sorry for your losses of Daisy and Pepper this week.

Due to the excessive noise, workers there take their own measures to project their hearing. one of the best solutions which help prevent excessive noise and dust. a deshi solution, but it works miracle!

Due to excessive amount of work days this week, it will be "Grab-a-Box" week. This one from May of 2002. First up is a daylight Susquehanna SU-99 accelerating through CP Hall at Campbell Hall, NY after clearing the Hudson Seconday.

The tradition of “Peixe Seco”, drying fish excessively, is very old in Nazaré.

According to what they say, it arose from the need to preserve fish for as long as possible, to guarantee the livelihood of families when it was scarce. Although this way of treating the fish also allowed them to preserve it and then sell it in the markets of the region, something that continues to happen today.

Bodnath (Nepal) - Once an independent city, Bodnath has become a district of Kathmandu. Tibetan refugees arrived in Nepal en masse in 1959, accompanying the Dalai Lama in his flight from Tibet, ahead of the advancing Chinese troops.

At that time, 10,000 Tibetans settled in the Kathmandu Valley. This community has built around fifty monasteries in the region. Bodnath thus became one of the main Buddhist shrines in the valley.

With the Buddhists, no problem to photograph. At first, although I know Buddhists well, having often "worked" in temples and monasteries, I stepped back so as not to be in the way. These are novices who came to take my sleeve that I'm getting closer.

There weren't a lot of lights, I had to push the sensitivity to 3,200 iso to work at 60th / second, at full aperture (f: 2.8), like in this photo. But in other darker places the speed could drop to 15 ° / second. Several photos ended up in the trash due to excessive blur. But as I was able to work in good conditions due to a warm welcome, I was able to resume on several occasions. We don't always have this luxury.

"Guy who insists on buying everyone, even strangers their drink guy". Usually excessive cash on hand and/or on the bar despite living in a 96% cashless society.
