A photo from the north-end of Big Creek Lake in Polk County, Iowa. The light from the sun trying to break through the clouds was exceptional as I arrived here.

Damrak is one of the most picturesque and old parts of Amsterdam. This is where we were planned to take the bus for our day trip. A whole row of venerable old houses was reflected in the water, it was extraordinary.

The exceptional warm weather that has been experienced in the UK recently has certainly advanced the colours found in the garden.

While in route to my last campsite in the Valley of the Gods, I briefly passed by the site I had just camped at only to see this exceptional transition from golden hour to blue hour setting trees and thistle in a light gray tone. This is perhaps my favorite photo captured from my December trip to Utah.

There are sometimes special moments (...) in the course of the world where it turns out that all things and beings, up to the most distant stars, interact in a unique way, so that something can happen that would never be possible before or after , Unfortunately, people generally do not understand how to use them, and so the great moments often pass unnoticed. But if there is someone who recognizes them, then great things happen. "

A hidden gem where nature flourishes amidst the busy urban is located in the center of Dubai. Greetings from Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, a sanctuary for both environment lovers and animal aficionados. Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, which is situated at the mouth of the ecologically significant Dubai Creek, is essential to the restocking of the fishing grounds for the neighboring communities of Deira, Shindhaga, and Bur Dubai. This sanctuary was created in 1985 and was formally designated as a protected area in 1998. Its ecological significance has won it acclaim on a global scale.

In 2007, it was designated as a Ramsar Site under the Ramsar Convention, highlighting its importance on a global scale. Additionally, Birdlife International has identified it as a Globally Important Bird Area (IBA), further solidifying its status as an exceptional wetland within the UAE. (DubaiTourVisa.com)

We had a two day layover in Dubai on our way home from New Zealand and Singapore. So of course, we went birding. This is the view from the Mangrove Hide, one of three luxurious hides situated at the Sanctuary. These hides are the only access points for viewing and are managed carefully to ensure that the birds are not disturbed. We saw 31 species in just one morning, including one lifer and many flamingoes. An easy visit for any birder with a few hours to spare when visiting Dubai.

This is a two-image panorama.

It's been an exceptionally mild Winter in Amsterdam so far. And even Single-Petalled Roses are surviving it. Here's a sprig in those fine flowerbeds aligning the Muiderstraart. The other day I posted a rosehip and now a meter or so from it a flower and its budding fellows brighten an otherwise murky day.

All around the Mediterranean Sea, the Summer lasts much longer !! And for those who can, it is exceptional to have vacations during September !! Even , less expensive !!

Last September, I had vacations for some days at a wonderful place, near Sounio, some kilometers away from Athens, where my family could be able to visit me. There I was quite lucky to immortalize the beauty of some exceptional sunsets!

Nata grigia, anzi esattamente grigio scuro, ora è rossa.

One of the rarest roadsters in the world, the 1968 Ferrari 275 GTS/4 NART Spider was first seen on the big screen in the The Thomas Crown Affair starring Steve McQueen—a model the actor himself subsequently owned. Built at the behest of Luigi Chinetti, the first Ferrari dealer in the United States, Enzo Ferrari and Sergio Scaglietti produced only 10 examples—and each was given an acronym that referenced the marque’s North American Racing Team. Chinetti believed the American market desired the power of Ferrari’s GTB/4 coupe but in a convertible configuration, and that is exactly what the 300 hp, drop-top tourer provided. Still a competitor at heart, the first NART Spider took second in class at the 1967 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race, driven by wonder women Marianne “Pinkie” Rollo and Denise McCluggage.

Fit with a V-12 engine, 5-speed manual transmission, and four-wheel disc brakes, Chassis No. 11057 stands out in significance as it was the last NART Spider produced and the only one that was sold new in Europe. Bought by a Spanish colonel in the Foreign Legion, the car later travelled through several owners and became a prominent addition to the collections of both Chris Cox and Carlo Monteverde before eventually parking in the possession of Lord Irvine Laidlaw. Certified by Ferrari Classiche, the exceptional example is estimated to fetch up to $26.3 million, but who knows? If the bidding exceeds $38,115,000 (the price paid for a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta through Bonhams in 2014), this Prancing Horse could take the prize as the most expensive car to ever sell at auction.

Waiting 18-Dec ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

dense fog this morning, the bluehour heralded no dawn just offered a blue blanket. I was alone entirely 5am on St Mary's beach save for the birds, not even the Lighthouse herself was visible. only 20 metres of causeway showing and the feeling was one of exceptional simplicity, serenity, and peace.

Have printed this both ways as I like the square that shows in the thumbnail too.

One of many which were "singing" in the Dr. Josip Avelini Park in Hvar :)

The Cicadoidea (cicadas) are a superfamily of insects in the order Hemiptera, suborder Auchenorrhyncha. They have an exceptionally loud song, produced not by stridulation but by vibrating drumlike tymbals rapidly. They typically live in trees, feeding on sap, and laying their eggs in a slit in the bark. Most cicadas are cryptic, singing at night to avoid predators. They are found on all continents, except Antarctica, mostly in warmer climate. Although only males produce the cicadas' distinctive sound, both sexes have membraneous structures called tympana by which they detect sounds; the equivalent of having ears. Some cicadas produce sounds up to 120 dB which is among the loudest of all insect-produced sounds.

Jedna z wileu cykad "grających" w Parku Doktora Josipa Aveliniego w Hvarze :)

1935 Mercedes 540K Special Roadster.......an OMG design for certain, and my first experiment with layers on Photomater. Big learning curves ahead.....

In the 1930s, Mercedes-Benz dominated the market segment of the international luxury class with its eight-cylinder supercharged cars. The "Type 500 with supercharger", 500 K for short, came out in 1934 as a sporty and elegant top model of the Mercedes-Benz passenger car range and was available in eight different body versions. The crowning glory of all variants was the especially elegant and luxurious Special Roadster. With a price tag of initially 26,000 and later 28,000 Reichsmark (which could also buy a villa at Wannsee), it was also the most expensive version of the 500 K, with only 29 units being produced. The 500 K and its successor, the 540 K, became legends not just because of their superior power delivery, but also because of their ravishingly beautiful, luxuriously finished coachwork bodies. They were built under the direction of Hermann Ahrens in the special car construction department, which was newly founded in 1932 at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen. With their elegant, flowing lines and extensive individualisation options, the bodies made in Sindelfingen were so highly esteemed by customers that, out of the total of 760 customers who purchased a 500 K or 540 K, fewer than 10 percent opted for coachwork from one of the renowned coachwork builders in Germany or abroad - an exceptionally low proportion for a luxury vehicle in those days.

Lower Silesia is an exceptionally interesting area of Poland. This also applies to its railway network, which has the oldest railway lines, the longest tunnels, the highest points (above sea level) and the most scenic routes in Poland. Legends also say that right here lies the legendary Nazi Golden Train, which is said to have transported tons of gold and other precious goods of the Third Reich. What we can be sure of however is that in Lower Silesia we'll also find the steepest railway line on the Polish rail network - the local line from Mysłakowice to Karpacz.

The line is known for its extremely steep slopes, which reach more than 5% on the steepest parts on a length of 50 meters. Its entire average incline is 2.2% - it climbs up 154 meters on its length of 7 kilometers. The steepest part however starts after passing the old station in Miłków, which is when trains start climbing towards Karpacz at an average incline of 3.4%. The steepest point of 5.1% lies just under a kilometer before the terminus at Karpacz. Due to those extreme conditions it was decided that the work trains on this very special line be hauled with the use of a heavier locomotive - this being a 6-axle SM31, of which just under 10 remain in service in Poland as of now.

The image shows the train on the break point of the line, where its slope flattens from 4% to just under 1%. This place used to house the junction of a lumber mill in Brzezie Karkonoskie, which makes the line appear this way to this day. The SM31-009 was waiting in this very spot on 8.03.2025 for the Plasser tamping machine to finish works around Miłków.

Wrong way round!

Due to a diversion on the route when travelling to Belgium, these cars and vans faced the opposite direction than what they were supposed to look in order to be unloaded from the train.

Therefore, this DB Cargo Belgium last mile trip to Kortenberg exceptionally ran via lines 16 and 35 (Aarschot) on 02/02/2021.
