Lasalle Park Marina, Usually the Canvasbacks are well out from shore, this male came very close to shore to offer an excellent view.

...und dann sprang mir noch dieses Prachtexemplar des Großen / Grünen Heupferds vor die Linse. Die Gesamtlänge dieses Monsters beträgt ca. 70mm!
Ich war wieder einmal sehr erstaunt, wie viele besondere Insekten man auf einer ungemähten Sommerwiese finden kann :-)

Questo maschio, un 15 punte e l'altro più distante, un 18 punte, se le sono date di santa ragione, (da notare le ferite lungo il fianco assalite dalle mosche), nella speranza vana che la femmina in calore, che si intravede sdraiata davanti a loro, cedesse alle loro lusinghe. Nascosto sotto un telo mimetico dopo 2 ore di cammino in montagna con il peso dello zaino fotografico sulle spalle. Foto no crop. Abruzzo - PNALM
Deer. This male, one 15 points and the other more distant, an 18 points, if they are given of right reason, (to notice the wounds along the side assaulted by the flies), in the vain hope that the female in heat, that can be glimpsed lying in front of them, she succumbed to their flattery. Hidden under a camouflage sheet after 2 hours of walking in the mountains with the weight of the photo backpack on the shoulders. No crop photos. Abruzzo - PNALM
Sometimes it is not so easy to see past rust. But the mystery here prevails. What is before us is sometimes superficial.

After an excellent week in Wells in Somerset we moved further South and West into Cornwall. It was a very different sort of week much less history and architecture but some splendid coastal walks . We were based in Carbis Bay near St Ives. When I booked the Carbis Bay cottage I had never heard of the place . However the G7 summit that was held there in June certainly put it on the map. Fortunately they had all long gone when we arrived . This is a shot from the beach at Carbis looking towards the town of St Ives which I guess is about two miles away
This was my first visit to Cornwall I have always been a little put off by its popularity and even in September there were too many people for my taste . The far west of Cornwall is about 420 miles from Hull the greatest distance we can travel in England from Hull . We are such a tiny country . Which is why I prefer France a much larger country with the same population and with a greater sense of space

Empire Mines California State Park preserves was once was the once one of the olderst,richest, longest and deepest Gold Mines in California, nestled in the western Seirra Nevadas in Grass Valley. In 1969 William Bowers Bourn, Sr. purchased controling interest of Empire Mine and it would remain in the Bourn family until 1929. Empire Mines actually operated from 1850 to 1956. In this image is what once was a working mineshaft at it's surface entryway. I took this image when my west coast damsel's eldest little granddaughter urged her dad to take her in to see the mine. The pitch of the shaft is amazingly steep.

L'Étourneau Sansonnet comme tout un chacun peut le voir, est un bel oiseau très gourmand, qui vit en groupe et de ce fait devient invasif au détriment des autres oiseaux (Merle, Grive, Fauvette etc...).
Sur cette photo on peut déjà constater les dégâts causés sur les cerises avant même qu'elles ne soient mûres....
