Exactly 15 minutes after shooting yesterday's image at the edge of the village, I stopped for these Pronghorn does in a field just off the road. They were part of a large herd of about 25, which included one obviously dominant buck. They are looking toward him (some distance away and out of the frame). At the time he was busy rounding up other does in his harem; the rut has been over for several weeks but herd structure will be loosely maintained until next spring.
Away from the river, the fog was patchy. Here it was so thin that I was tempted to add some extra contrast in processing, but in the end decided to keep the look as close as possible to how I remembered the morning.

My wife and I loved Brienza but it didn’t exactly return the favor, during the our passeggiata before supper my wife had a flip flop fail catching her death trap of foot wear in a sidewalk crack falling forward into a very solid bus bench made of some very hard steel which split her scalp open. We cannot say enough good things about the help of the locals, the farmacia supplying bandages and advice until the ambulance medics arrived that eventually closed her profusely bleeding wound.
Other than this life threatening incident that started our visit, we thoroughly enjoyed the city, it is a lovely place with a small cozy old town that surrounds a castle at its heart and peak built by the Lombards back in the 8th century from which the city grew around. We also enjoyed the our accommodations at a B&B called La Voce del Fiume (The Voice of the River) a lovely artisanal restored setting with amazing views over the countryside and a wonderful host who that I am sure we scared to death arriving back from our walk covered in blood and bandages.
The center piece of the city is its castle Caracciolo di Brienza and has been since its construction consisting of 365 rooms that follows the ancient tradition of building each room for a day of the year. The sight of the castle rising above the city during the daylight is wonderful but it truly comes into its own when evening falls and the fully illuminated fortress shines over the city like a beacon. This shot captures the castle at the end of the day and is one of the few we have of the city for the previous mentioned reasons I remained on concussion watch that evening
I took this on Sept 25, 2018 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f3.5-5.6 Lens at 85mm 1/50s f`11 ISO 100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , and DXO

Exactly 5 years ago today, in the Eastern Eifel near Kruft, another of the similar photos I've already shown of this unique poppy field.
I was there again at the beginning of this week:
White field lupins are currently blooming in this spot...and the tree in the background is still standing.

I stored this photo for some time now - always amazed by the LIGHT as well as the "NOT"-LIGHT in it.
Taken at the fine line of time, which marks the boarder between day and night, it represents for me the antipodes, by which we mostly experience the world.
The line, where the light exactly meets the darkness, is so beautiful, that i always feel awestruck.
(is it possible at all, to express it in english like that?? :-))) please correct me, my english - speaking friends !!)
Canon100 mm/f2.8 Macro - i got hooked :))
Spotted Cucumber Beetles have exactly twelve black spots on the back of their tiny, bright lime green bodies. Like many of their beetle cousins, these little guys have wonderful shimmery colors and this one looked beautiful against the bright orange petal of the Mexican Sunflower. But they're incredibly destructive eating almost everything we love growing in the vegetable garden - not just cucumbers. :)
..and that's exactly what the pineapple did..
#MacroMondays - Mon -Nov 23 2020 - Theme - #Spiky
This is my entry for the theme "Spiky". Its a close-up of a pineapple .. and as you can see - each spike further has spikes..
I clicked the image with Noir filter "ON" on my phone and adjusted the slider to give this dark look. The only editing I have done is to add a vignette to reduce the distraction from the lighted portion on the top. It didn't look so distracting on the phone (vs. laptop).
I wanted to retake the shot today but on my return from work I found that the pineapple was a shape shifter and had changed its form to pineapple chutney .. so here I am .. with yesterday's shot and hoping that the vignette will do what was intended of it.
Editing : Vignette in Picasa.

It's not exactly Boot Hill, there are no records of gunfights in the middle of Ross, but some convicts are buried here.
I've chosen a very wide angle here, because that's the sense you get in the Midlands. The wide open spaces of prime sheep country under a looming sky. The sky is actually a very real presence in these Midlands landscapes, especially at night, where the dark skies provide a perfect viewing of the Milky Way, and if one is lucky, the Aurora Australis.
I'll finish today's lot with these amazing words of Emily Dickinson's. Please read it slowly, and perhaps several times over for its impact:
"Of Death I try to think like this —
The Well in which they lay us
Is but the Likeness of the Brook
That menaced not to slay us,
But to invite by that Dismay
Which is the Zest of sweetness
To the same Flower Hesperian,
Decoying but to greet us —
I do remember when a Child
With bolder Playmates straying
To where a Brook that seemed a Sea
Withheld us by its roaring
From just the Purple Flower beyond
Until constrained to clutch it
If Doom itself were the result,
The boldest leaped, and clutched it —" [Poem 1588].
I can hear her voice now.
Terrace formations at Mammoth Hot Springs area in Yellowstone National Park. Not sure exactly how these how these terrace-like formations develop, but they look really cool!
Not exactly a Thanksgiving picture as we celebrate that holiday today in the US, but I was just reading how Thanksgiving as a national holiday was started by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War to celebrate that the Union was winning and peace would soon return. So with that idea of the end of conflict in mind, I think this is a fitting picture after all.
[Exactly this] is the ‘evil’ of this world: goodness and satisfaction—instead of magnifying and intensifying the soul’s longing—pacify it, weaken it. Once they are reached, instead of completing the person, goodness and satisfaction cause him to decompose; they empty him. Because man is man in as much as he strives, acts, pours himself out, gives himself, sacrifices himself.” Giussani insisted, “Man and life exist in the dynamic of gift of self: sacrifice of self.”
-The Life of Luigi Giussani, Alberto Savorana Translated by Mariangela C. Sullivan and Christopher Bacich
She used to stop on that bench with the illusion
That behind her the sunset wasn't just a colored wall of orange-red sun
The tree next door with its autumn leaves
A magical touch of a children's book
The leaves fell silently on the bench
And on the ground creating a colorful carpet of light
There wasn't much traffic along that stretch of road
And that's exactly why he chose her
No passerby would have sat next to her,
no car would disturb his thoughts
but now she's not here and the tree and the bench wonder why
there will be no answers
there will be no other days
harmony is shaken by a shiver of wind
another trembling leaf has fallen
everything is silent now on that stretch of road...
Exactly in this moment it was perfect to took photos, because the light was warm and wonderful. So much leaves were on the ground. Do you also enjoy the sound of leaves rustle.
Not exactly the right conditions for the bright early morning sunshine we were hoping for but the mist did add some atmosphere to the photo.

not exactly a "moc", but something I put together that will be helpful for photography and display.
Using bootleg transparent elements makes it stronger, as there's more friction.
Exactly three years ago we were on holiday in beautiful Copenhagen. On April 30 we visited the district Ørestad by bike to have a look at the stunning architecture there (see first comment).
On our way back to our lovely hotel which was located directly at the canal we passed The Royal Library, called The Black Diamond, here on the left hand side and public authority buildings on the right hand side, illuminated by the evening sun.
I loved the reflections on the library and the evening light.
Going down the memory lane ... I have very fond memories of this city and its people ... a care-free time !
Love & Peace !

Well, not exactly, but inspired by. Or possibly the Russian Marsokhod (with those lovely bevelled gear wheels). I had to order some extra white cones as there's four on each axle. And I thought it looked better out in the dirt than on the desk, it shows of the rambling nature of the design, and it's fun to take a rover out in the garden occasionally.
Almost exactly 10 years ago, I was on a cycling holiday alone in the north of Germany. Unfortunately, I had an accident on the road and sustained an open fracture of my elbow. Nobody wanted to help me, I lay helpless and in pain on the side of the road. A young woman then stopped, forgot all her plans and provided me with everything I needed. Shortly afterwards, I was able to have an operation in the clinic. She was my guardian angel. Despite the great distance from where I live, we are still friends today. Close friends! She gave me this beautiful amaryllis. I am grateful to her, grateful for this friendship ♥️
not sure exactly when, but it was sometime back when i had that apartment over at Voroznia. i just remember her mentioning “neighbor.” Lol, told y’all, i forget a lot. but i can picture it: me on my balcony, her on hers, yelling "hello!" from across the way. sounds about right.
i won’t pretend we’ve had deep convos or that i know her inside and out. but what i can say is she’s always been kind. always says hi, and whenever we do talk, it’s easy and natural. even with a bit of a language barrier.
just catching a photo of us hanging out, escaping the noise for a bit. don’t ask me what’s on her phone though... that’s her story to tell. my lips are sealed 😏
thanks girlie 💕

Dear Flickr Friends,
Exactly one year ago I uploaded my first picture "Clouds over Passau" to Flickr. Since then I added 179 pictures. It's been a very interesting time and I would like to use this opportunity to thank you all for your interest in my pictures, for all your comments, interesting discussions via flickr-mail, faves and invitations during my first twelve months on Flickr. I have learned a lot during this one year and I'm looking forward to what the next twelve months may bring.
Thanks
Andreas
On a rainy summer day in Passau, Germany, I was lucky to get some sun for this view over the Inn river.
A random shot taken in the woods after our first 2024 snowstorm. It's not exactly an exhilarating photo, but I really like how the trees look with snow plastered on one side from the wind during the storm.
Developed and converted to B&W with Darktable 3.6.0.
Dad feeding ! Interesting to note that in this sequence which lasts exactly 34 seconds, the first to be fed is the female offspring (left frame) and that the male is fed after (right frame). The middle frame shows Dad pausing while the male centers himself in the window to be fed.
Of course, I am in no way implying that this is the ''normal'' and usual way. Perhaps someone else will catch a sequence where Mom comes to the window and who gets served first.
The library opened almost exactly 25 years ago, on April 18th, 1996, the 90th anniversary of the great San Francisco earthquake and fire. Architects are James Ingo Freed and Cathy Simon. The atrium is 5 stories high, topped by the skylight.
So it's not exactly a surprise that I went down this route. Because. Obviously I would.

Exactly 4 years ago to the day, I stood with my buddy at the top of Olmsted Point in Yosemite and watched this great sunset - and as usual, you should never go too early - the same applies here - these great colors emerged in around 20 minutes , after the sun disappeared over the horizon. I think it was worth the wait...
